Should I max deal him? Topic

Myette

I have a tough decision..  I can max deal Myette or spend big in IFA this season and max Arias next season..  I cant afford to max deal them both and if I max deal Myette this season I wont have the $$ to cash in on IFA's next season.

Well it depends on your world and what contracts are offered and what talent is available. If you feel you have to max contract either of these, Myette is a perennial 40-40 player who can play every day while Arias has to rest and only has the HR potential.

If you let them walk you get the extra draft picks and can spend on an IFA, but will your picks or the IFA be guaranteed to be as good as either of these guys an how long will it take for them to contribute to your ML team?

It all depends on your window, your minors and a what your world is like realy...

If I'm giving any of these guys a max deal, it's Arias.  Can play 2B or 3B (is his range declining from injury or age?).  It's hard to find that good of a hitter who can play a position like that.  Very valuable.

That said, I'm not sure either of those guys are actually worth max deals.

Who says you can't offer both a max deal?  Who says both will be pushed towards a max deal in free agency?  Pitchers tend to go for max deals before hitters, as pitchers tend to age into the late 30s better than hitters.  Looks like you still have a bunch of young talent, so you'd have the room to go big on these 2 guys, while perhaps needing to get creative down the road.

Myette was the MVP, I just won the WS.
I could probably compete for another WS if I keep him but might be kicking myself in 3-4 seasons when I'm paying him $20M.. My team's strength is pitching and defense.. I think I can sign or trade for 80% of Myette's numbers for much less than 30M this season.. 

I've pretty much decided I'm letting him go.. I just feel like it might be a terrible move..

You'd think that 49 health rating might have been a deterrent to a max deal for Bottenfield.

I am curious, wasn't Myette available for an extension last season?  I would think with the 76 patience that you would have been able to keep him around.

If I had the money and my pitching staff was pretty set, with at least 2 top tier SPs, I'd max both.
