George Ford is a pitcher with vel, gb/fb and p1 all at 85+.  Look at those stunning numbers that he's putting up in AAA
While I do not have a side in the forum vs rangerup, and certainly do not have the resume of some, Ford's issues appear to be more Control related -- if it were 78+, I think his results would be much different
He'd still be a below average MLB pitcher. The "big 3" do not make up for ****** splits.

Eugenio Guevara would disagree.

57/70 is not ****** splits.

Disagree to what?

True, not ******, but certainly not good. And that's a 3.19 ERA in 147 career starts. So elite ERA with mediocre-at-best splits.

Well as I just acknowledged, it wasn't directly on point because he doesn't have ****** splits.

But I'm still waiting for someone to show me a 60/60 guy with elite V/GB/Pitches and decent control. I think that person could definitely be an above average pitcher in the right circumstances.

Well, ****, if 57/70 is "certainly not good", Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Ernie Thurman is a good example of **** velocity, "certainly not good" splits and nice results.

I don't recall mr. up mentioning anything about control being an important rating to look at.  Seems to me that he insists that having a dominant "big three" makes up for other shortcomings.  And as for if this guy had a 78 + control, he'd be on my ML squad as a SUB

Would you classify 57/70 as "good"?

Sure, it's probably about average, but that guy puts up CY numbers.

If I see a 70 VR, I don't discount the pitcher as "meh".    "The big 3" is certainly bullshit but a 70 VR will work just fine if the other ratings are good enough.  Obviously my example of Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Mark Camp shows that I'll use 53/61 with regularity.

In which season did that guy put up "CY numbers"?

I assume we can all agree that W/L isn't an acceptable way to judge performance, so Season 17.

OAVG .218
OOPS .559
WHIP 1.03
ERA 2.23

Those are certainly CY numbers. Aside from that, the guy has a career .243/.291/.360 with a 1.16/3.19 WHIP/ERA. Those are fringe HOF numbers in a lot of worlds. He's not the best pitcher ever, but he is certainly outpitching his splits by a significant margin.

Ok. As stated was not coming to defense of ranger. I tend to think, admittedly without the proven results, that control can be the equalizer of bad splits.

True, and I was not offering a defense of ranger premise. I added my own qualifier that control can be the equalizer to bad splits (or less than desired split ratings.
