"Chandler pickup helps shore up some problems Shaq causes, but you've got a ton of minutes to fill with pretty low draft picks.  I'm concerned for your team now & don't understand why you did what you did"

The deal with dh actually puts me in a position to add a mix of three players that IMO will fit together very well, I have a few different sets of guys in mind and which group I take will be determined my whether or not any individual guys go in the next few picks before I'm up.

If I get the entire group that I really want then I'll be on target to have a tov% under 13% with 124-126 RL possessions per 48, I'm hoping this would keep me at no more than 16 tov pg even with the uptempo. My ideal squad if they all last would have a weighted dreb of 88-91, and a oreb in the upper 30's with a weighted efg in the 54% range, but a weighted ast% only in the low 60's, and a weighted D ave of about 69-70. Ray will most likely be my only sub-50 guy, but I also have a mix in the queue that would utilize the 4-point 50D Ray instead.

IMO my trades made me REALLY look at how a team with Shaq and Ray could attempt to optimize them both. When I took Deron I started to doubt if he was the "right" guy for these two since he wiped out the great tov% advantage I can build from. After I dealt him I spent like 10-12 hours looking over more stuff than you would believe. Ast% may still be an issue in the end, and I may flirt with what may be damn close to the minimum needed to keep my guys near RL efg%'s.

When it's all said and done, I may have screwed up, but I can guarantee you that when I take my three guys together that I have looked at about everything there is to consider, and there will be a definite plan in place for what I do.

I'm getting killed on the Dantley pick. My plan, which may or may not be a good one, is using his 24 min season off the bench at the 2 guard.

Bad plan.  With this pick you have essentially robbed your team of efficiency in exchange of free throw attempts.  There is no other reason to use this season unless you are just looking to draw fouls.  AD brings no D, rebounding, or passing to the table plus no 3's.  To further explain AD is going to get super exploited by the offensive killers in this league that are eligible at that position (MJ, LBJ, Bird, Kobe, Wade, and Dr. J) and all you are going to do for half the game is get fouled a little bit (which those players do not have a huge foul rate issue).  If this was a center I could see a point by putting fouling players into hyper foul mode, but in this game where free throw attempt rates are rarely matching up with real life numbers I see this as a monumental mistake.

Just take a 52%+ fg season, get some boards out of the deal and call it a day

21. eleibowitz - Bill Russell, Shawn Marion, Paul Pierce, Gary Payton, Swen Nater

Anytime you can get 3570 minutes of 44% creb, 70 def at 100% pf/c at pick 21, you've got a good steal.  See: what I said about Big Ben, only add 700 minutes.  I love the Matrix here.  Boards are a little crappy for a 4 where he's 100%, but he works well at 98% for a 3.  I might look at a flex forward so you could perhaps get that extra 2% out of Matrix by starting him at the 4, but you have a ton of flexibility going forth.  The guys after you have 52-53% efg% with good defense.  You have 56% with good defense.  I'll take the latter over the former (bill's only a tier 5 usage guy, so I'm not worried about him hurting you offensively much).  Pierce was an excellent pickup and someone I really wanted in both rounds 2 & 3.  His 10-11 season is perfect for this league.  Glove is someone I can't believe fell as far as he did considering some of the love people used to bear for him.  He brings you a lot of good and some bad.  I don't think you're using the best version of him for your team, but it's still solid.  Nater is very nice, especially when Russell is a flipside defender.  Your defensive boards is extremely strong & your offense is quite good as well.  The only thing I dislike is that Glove is your highest usage player & your weakest shooter (after Russ, of course).  Very good team that should win a ton.

Ash agree about the Glove's usage, I might use a different Glove depending on how the 6th round shakes out.  Even if I get my guys still may keep that Glove depends how the numbers look.  Risk vs reward plus how my money situation is... In the end even though Glove's usage is higher Pierce and Marion are so close I think it will minimize the impact of Glove's higher usage.  I have to see how much I gain by using that Glove vs another one

Ash...I thought about going with Nater but I opted for Willis because of usage. I know Willis doesn't have the efficiency of a Nater but if someone decides to go +2 on me he can then be a bit more effective. Obviously if this was my only reason for drafting him I would be screwed but with him in the lineup I will have 40%+ Oreb 100%+ Dreb with 95% Asts. The assists should help my shooting numbers some, but I have no illusions that I will have a few games this season that will be bloody but hopefully I am playing a team having a worse day when that occurs.

As for Wade...I had every intention of starting him at PG, but I saw KJ sitting there (and I freakin love the 96-97 season) when I didn't think he would be there and changed my plan in order to take advantage of that season. Probably not a great idea to scrap my plan based on impulse but I feel like this squad should do alright. Wade will be playing point when KJ is not on the floor.

Nate...I think you overvalue defense. Mainly I feel it is because you have a proper grasp of basketball because the sim undervalues defense horribly. I do not have any notion that my team is a defensive juggernaut but I do think that Wade and Noah will serve as nice anchors.

Some may hate the Griffin pick, but I'd rather be sure to have enough
usage, rebounds and assists.  Not to mention nice eFG.

To piggy back on Malone about defense, yes its good to have defense. But its not nearly the most important thing.  Not even just how this SIM uses defense but also do you really need a 90 D on Dennis Rodman, Bill Russell or anyone who has a usage under 17.5 or even 22.1? Its just having enough defense is the key...

just a note on my squad for purposes of evaluation: Price and Ginobili are splitting PG, Ginobili and Bird at SG. Nance at SF and a few minutes at PF, I think.

"And with Frazier, if you use the season I would with him, you've solved pretty much every problem I can think of for this squad"

well i originally had planned on using 69-70 frazier thinking i would need the extra cash and also liked the extra ast% and ftas he gives you there...but it looks like im gonna have to fill my bench with a few low usage scrubs so i really need the usage from fraziers 71-72 season....im thinking that was the season you were referring to....better tov% that season too

right now if i get the guys i want im gonna make it to just under 19500 mins....the most mins ive had in awhile in the odl..the bench sucks(guards will be good but the forwards stink) but itll be nice for once to not have everyone at 97% by seasons end
6/24/2013 1:26 PM
69-70 is my favorite Frazier season... you know me, though, I'm an efg% fiend.
