rookies in open leagues Topic

Hey guys sorry if this has been addressed in the past, but the rookies in the open leagues are based on actual players in the sim, right?

It has been postulated as such, but admins haven't said anything

EVER ABOUT ANYTHING IN THE LAST 6 YEARS

They are in baseball.

In the NBA sim, no one knows.
6/21/2013 1:03 AM
Yeah, I've been curious about that, too. Wish that basketball & football would both do some of what baseball does by having the performance history link, so you get an idea of what to expect from a player. That, in addition to knowing who these rookies really are, would give us all a better grasp of things.

Getting rid of rookies totally would be the best move for all sports.  Their quality (worth) varies greatly, and because it does, it destroys the integrity of the salary cap.  There are more than enough random things in the SIM without rookies being yet another.

In open leagues its pretty easy to tell who your rookies should be as actual SIM players. When you get your rookies, go to the GM office and place them on your active roster. This will show you what their stats were as an actual player (ppg, rpg and apg). Then go to the search engine (exhibition teams are great for this) and plug in the stats, again (ppg, rpg and apg) and do a player search. This should give you a small list of players of who your rookie may be. Use the postion effectiveness of your rookie to further narrow it down. This seems work most of the time.

um, no? (or at least not exactly as you say - there's no ppg, rpg etc)

but  sort of - so let's accept the hypothesis that these are in fact based on actual player seasons

and here's this dude

given the hypothesis

the only "real life" stats we have for Keegan are his shot %s by zone

and as oskies says we also have another clue: his position effectiveness

so...

A perfect example of how rookies destroy the salary cap premise.  Thanks.
I have enough problems winning, without other owners having players worth $4-$5 million more than me.

ash said his guy was 1.9m as well - it could be the case that we have the same $5m worth of rookies but his is spent poorly and mine well (so to speak) in which case why not just make open leagues default cap 47m (like someone once campaigned for until he was suppressed by the autthorities)?

If the cap gets raised, teams would no longer reasemble a "realistic" team.  I understand WIS' claim there.  I don't understand the unwillingness of WIS to have variable caps for Open Leagues, so people can be unrealistic if they want.  Owners new to the site are not going to join Theme Leagues to play in such Leagues.  No matter what the cap, there is always going to be this problem with rookies, unless all rookies are done away with, or at least the exact same rookies given to every team.  A League with random rookies hasn't seen me in a long, long time, and it never again will.
