We hold the draft. We determine our twelve man roster. Then, when everyone has their twelve guys, I spend a couple hours on random.org randomly assigning a season for every one of the 288 players, minus my own. As I stated in the initial rules, you could get His Airness in a great season, or you could get him with Birmingham. Then, after everyone has their seasons, any player who's value is below a certain point, 500k salary, or draws a missing season (MJ with baseball or Cousy retired etc before playing like 7 years later) will be temporarily removed from the active roster (they are still yours to keep mind you) and we will have another short draft to fill those roster spots. Then those players are randomized. You are, however, stuck with what you get after that. As I said, you could get great, you could get less than that. If you aren't willing to deal with that, this league isn't for you. All of this was laid out. The teams were laid out. Bofore a single roster was selected.

You could get bad draws. That's part of the fun of this league. Is it frustrating some times, yes. But it is also pure awesome.

With the player pool here i really dont think minutes will be an issue. Yoy can draft guys who are guaranteed to play minutes..

Maybe rather than 500k salary we could go with 500 mins played for the IR cutoff

The only way minutes could be guaranteed is if the player has minutes every single season of their career, since they are randomized AFTER being drafted, according to the prior post.

Honestly, I still don't understand all the whining and crying about unequal teams to start, yet nobody else being worried about maintaining equality.  If someone lucks into a Wilt, Lebron and Jordan team, then so be it.  Well, didn't everyone luck (or unluck) into the team they're starting with too?

There are guys.. who are very consistent with their minutes.

I will probably carry a couple guys that arent big sim stars.. like a dominique or isiah.. to be minute sponges. Probably a better use ofvthe bench than low minute specialists

all3: exactly. It also gives a bit more value to a guy like blake griffin, who's played 3 full seasons.

logain: I'm good with minutes as a cut off. Baseball has minimum plate appearances before a player was even eligible for the sim, so that seems fair.

Hoops does too.. but its only 200min.

Also in hoops fatigue will ruin you fast. Without around 19k mins teams will suffer. A team with wilt mj and lebron and 14k mins would probably start 9-1 and finish 12-70

Oh and a couple more things you should fix in the ad. There is no live play in hoops. There are also no in season trades. Plus the 12 playoff teams and the resulting changes you might make to the lottery odds.

Yeah, I've been toying around with the lottery math. No trades???? No live play???? suckage.

I will edit on my break today at work. only 9 hours today. And then Weird Al.

Say you have a team with WIlt and MJ

You have a 68% chance of having them together 2 years
A 46% chance of having them together 3 years
A 32% chance of having them together 4 years

Now consider.. Mj has at least 3 bad seasons. I think Wilt has 1. So the chances of you having a 4 year run of dominance with those 2 guys at their peak is below that 32%
I guess MJ has many more bad seasons.. 8 bad or even IR seasons.. 11 full seasons.. hes almost a 50/50 guy.. Lebron and Wilt are far superior here

Hoops is the wis stepchild that they have had handcuffed to the toilet in sebels camper for the past 5 years

In lieu of no trades: I will always post the random draws (be it free agents or player seasons) on a sunday evening and leave the league's start date or draft state date to be that next friday. Trades are a big part of this league, to help maintain balance. A player with a great season on an otherwise lousy team can be swapped for two or more picks or down season players, giving the team with the bad draw that many more resources for next season....

All3 you aren't this dumb are you?

It isn't that someone gets Wilt, or LBJ, or MJ but it is that those teams got ready made lineups while, in my case, I got Duncan with an unplayable lineup. You could take Wilt away from your team and now you have a rebounding monster with a good collection of players around him. I think Blake Griffin is my next best player. It is either him or it is Moncreif. Is that really equal?

This is why I love the idea where I can drop players and get additional picks that you won't get because of the inequality of the teams.

I'll try this - not sure of the team-number, but I will take the team that starts with Mookie Blaylock, Clyde Drexler......and includes Kareem.  Will place them in Vancouver, BC.  Sure hope I don't lose Kareem for the first few seasons.
8/3/2013 10:28 AM
You dont get to pick your team that way!
