Amber alert is down.  Let's Move is up.  He pays 7 park rangers to enforce the closing of sidewalks in Washington DC, which is an extra expense.  83% of the government is still running during this "shutdown".  Temp agencies can't check immigration status of their temp workers.

He is only shutting down things that working Americans need.  Illegal immigrants and lazy tards of the SSI movement does not apply.

Obama is a petty dumb man.  He makes GWB look like a rocket scientist.  He just wants to divide the classes and make 18th century France.

He is so ******* lazy like his constituency, that he finds any excuse not to do his job.  Cancelling a trip to SE Asia is for a lame excuse is only the latest.

USA is a ******* joke now and we are becoming the trash of the world.

Default on the loans is only 10 days away.  If that happens because he refuses to negotiate yet again, then he will be the worst president ever.

Raucous has **** for brains.

His team closes down the government. Then he complains that closing down the government sucks.

Raucous logic!

Oh yes.  With Leppy logic, the Legislative branch of government makes the executive decisions of what to keep open and close and not the Executive branch.

Leppy, you are a dumbdumb.  Don't worry, your welfare check and EBT card will still be available for you next month.

There isn't a government shut down.  Only Obama closing things and trying to make life miserable for the middle class.  Of course, he has been attacking the middle class and baiting a class war since he took office.

Too bad the American people are so dumb they keep voting for him.

Psst raucous - guess what. The legislature CAN tell the president what to keep open and closed. Its...well...its kind of how our whole government works. The legislature sets the rules, and the president operates within them. Do we need to set up civics 101? I'm worried you don't understand our constitution.

If he's not doing what YOU want with the shutdown, then you should encourage Congress to tell him exactly what he can open and close next time.

Because, let's face it, there will be another time so long as obstreperous members of Congress put their party ahead of country.

And those food stamps? Yes, you'd better hope they are available next month. If not, that's a ton of money not being spent at small businesses all across this country. Oh, and its a ton of children and elders without money to buy food. (What's that? You didn't know the vast majority of welfare recipients are children, the aged, and the infirm?) So, they'll probably do REALLY well without adequate nutrition to get through the day. They're totally built for it.

So with our old folks tottering and our kids without food, what do you think that will do for our civic institutions? Are you willing to sit back while kids suffer? Or should we provide them with services?

Oh wait, what services can we provide them, without money?

Perhaps we'll just have our communities provide those services. What's that? A sizable portion of our workforce is out of work? They're not contributing any income right now? Huh. What might that do to our local tax collections? Yeah, those are going down too? Good thing we don't have any fixed expenses, like wastewater infrastructure, roads, schools, or any other negligible things that are only partially funded by the state in the first place, since most of the money comes from federal mechanisms; but I've gotten distracted - all those federal workers out of work.

Of course, we'd all rather these folks just pulled themselves up by their bootstraps. That easy ride they've been on, when they make substantially less than their peers, its going just swell right now. They should just go start their own small business and become a job creator! Oh, but now that there's fewer consumers in the marketplace, given that so many suddenly neither have jobs nor government benefits to spend, it stands to reason demand for consumer products will go down, so what's a bootstrapping young lad to do? Mow some lawns, only its fall, and the lawn he wanted to mow is owned by a veteran who, unfortunately, just lost his vet's benefits.

But rauc, you know what, you're probably right. Just because a huge portion of our workforce is out of work; and the trusted institutions we rely upon in ways we often don't think about or see in the day to day are not functioning; and our welfare systems are sputtering; this is probably all much ado about nothing. When the dust clears, the invisible hand will magically clean this up. Because, you know, its times like these when the social balance really tilts towards those who are struggling.

Is the sky falling? No. Our great experiment will survive this hiccup. Is it embarrassing that the country that controls 1/4 of the world's wealth can't pay our meager government bills? Yeah, it is. But we'll get past our redface and figure this out eventually. Meanwhile, please read that again, and make another snide comment about welfare, please, because there is nothing classier than being absurdly wealthy and ******* on the poor.

(data on the 1/4? US GDP is about 15 trillion; world GDP is 60 trillion).

And, next time you're screaming about default, read that 15 trillion figure again. You kidding me? Do you REALLY think we can't pay our debts? Only reason we can't pay our bills are folks who think the American federal government shouldn't work well have hijacked the national dialogue and the budget and made otherwise good, rational Americans forget that we have an obligation to pay up for what we've already spent.

10/8/2013 12:17 AM
We have no intention in paying our debts.

The Legislative body has been trying to open things up or haven't you noticed?  The House passes to open the Mall, the Senate rejects it.  The House passes to help cancer victims.  The Senate rejects it.

I can't tell my Senators anything.  Massachusetts have the weakest two Senators in the country that will never do anything without their party's approval.

Obama succumb to the pressure and magically the Amber Alert is back on.  No Legislative Branch voting at all.  hmmmm.......
