Now that we're just about done, let's hear your team building strategies. Did anybody have to change in mid-stream beacause of losing out on a player? I'll go first.
Coming in, my plan was to take Molina (the only full-time catcher with any kind of arm), then grab Figgins at 3B plus Ellsbury, Crawford & Bourn in the OF and run everybody to death. Even after brianjw's Figgins pick in round 1, I still planned on getting those 3 speedy OFs. I waited on OF, because I wanted to see what catchers everybody else was taking.
At some point, I came to the realization that I really couldn't afford all three of those OFs, so I settled on drafting just two. As the draft got further along, I changed my mind again and decided I needed more offense (Votto) and so with that plus the splurging on RPs Bailey & Adams, I really could only afford one speedy OF. I finally gave up drafting any of the three and instead went the R.Davis/N.Morgan and Coghlan/Fuld platoons. Davis/Morgan give me some speed. Plus I have some pot in the bat with Votto, Swisher and Sandoval.
The one pick I was I could do over was the Baker pick. I needed a 1B/2B combo guy and the Vizquel pick spooked me a bit. I should've waited a round and taken Jurrjens. Instead, I spent 700K more on Jimenex the next round after bardin took Jurrjens.
I don't like my team that much. Although my starting pitching is decent (low HRs allowed) and my top 3 RPs are solid, I am light in innings (1296, including 80 mopup). My offense has good balance of speed, on base and power, but the defense is weak, especially with Swisher (C+/D+) and Coghlan (C/D-) in the OF.
I'll be thrilled to win 85 games against this competition.
