Playoffs, a season early Topic

But that's up to the bowl games if they want to have the tie-ins. For instance the Big 12 dumped the Fiesta Bowl in favor of a Big 12 - SEC Sugar Bowl.

The initial decisions may have been up to the bowls, but I don't believe they can opt out mid-stream - the contract runs through 2025.  So, I don't think those tie-ins are any more in the hands of the bowls than they have been through out the life of the BCS.

The committee picks not only the 4 playoff teams, but also the 8 teams in the other 4 major bowl games.

So this year, the playoffs would have likely been 1. FSU v. 4. MSU and 2. Auburn v. 3. Alabama.  If the 4 traditional BCS bowls were still the same the match-ups would have looked something like this: Ohio State and Stanford would have been matched in the Rose Bowl to keep the tie ins.  Clemson would have been in the Orange.  Baylor would have been in the Fiesta.  Missouri would have been in the Sugar.  Those are tie in type games.  The committee then would have placed Central Florida (AQ this year or highest ranked non-AQ champion next year), and likely Oklahoma and South Carolina in the three games.  I would imagine that South Carolina would have been matched against Baylor (to avoid rematches in the other two) and given locations of the other two teams and bowl games, Oklahoma would have faced Missouri and Central Florida would have faced Clemson.  Now it won't always work out that way with the other locations being included.

OSU sucks.  Beaten by every half-decent team they played.

defense was missing its two best players, hard to overcome that against a good offensive team.  And Miller was clearly banged up.  Still they should have pulled that out, they just ran out of gas like they did against MSU.  Hard to overcome 10+ point deficits.

Don't fall behind by 10?

Meyer isn't a chump so they'll get better.    But, as I said a long time ago, OSU is a mid-level SEC team right now.

Better than OSU from SEC/ACC/PAC12:

Bama. Auburn, LSU, Mizzou, SC
Clemson, FSU
Oregon, Stanford

They were only down by 10 once, in the middle of the second quarter, took them all of 6 minutes to come back to take the lead going into the half, and they were ahead for 2/3 of the 2nd half.  Try again?

Thankfully that **** Ohio St team didn't make the championship game. Can't believe there were people advocating that just because they would've been undefeated playing in a **** conference, playing a terrible schedule, they would've been worthy.

that is what happened against MSU, they ran out of steam down the stretch.

The botched punt was the turning point of the game last night however.  without that, they probably hang on and win.

Probably not.

That statement would be only slightly less dumb, but whatever.  Is that really even a defense?  "They're really good, they just get tired when they have to score a couple times in a row while also stopping the other team."

Stay classy, Alabama!

saw that floating around over the weekend.  Hilarious.

And that is that.   FWIW, I don't think FSU would have won in a playoff system.    I don't think they could have played, and beaten, two tough teams in a row.
