How long into the season do you need to hold off bringing up a prospect to save a year of arbitration eligibility? Or is it any day brought up counts towards that year in whole?

20 minor league days.

My rule of thumb: if your minor league season starts on the Wednesday AM cycle, do your promotions after the following Wednesday's AM cycle.  It's an extra HBD day or two, but takes the counting out of the equation.
