The BOTTOM DUMP Tournament - V.2:- Rounds 2-6 Topic

ROUND TWO

Just like Round 1 was similar to Round 1 in the first "Bottom Dump" Tournament, this round will be similar to Round 2 of the first tournament. Since we'll know which league everyone is placed in and using the draft order that is predetermined by your W/L record in the previous round of the tournament, you will choose the following:  (1) which of the two team choices you want in that league (A.L. or N.L.) and (2) what time-frame you want, and (3) whether you want hitting or pitching. The draft will be snake-style (1-24, 24-1) at that point.  For example, if you have the first pick in League 1, you may decide to go with the offense of the 1928-1941 Yankees. Things should pretty well even out though as you will end up with one of the two final choices of the pitching time-frames that are still left. It doesn't matter which you choose first - hitting or pitching. You get one of each, and with thirteen selections on each side, even the person with the last pick will at least have a choice.

One last thing - if you want to swap draft slots (i.e., you're scheduled to pick first but would rather pick around tenth to get a better draft pick in the second round of the draft, etc.), you may do so - as long as both parties post their agreement to the swap in the draft thread. However, please use common sense when looking for a swapping partner. 24 hours at the most should be sufficient to find someone to swap with. We don't need someone waiting for days and days, hoping someone will swap with them.

Alignment will be determined by the order of the draft (i.e., the first four picks that go with an N.L. squad will make up the N.L. East, etc.).

Here are some other items of interest:

NO: Clones – Not In This Round.
NO: Player Trades, Waiver Wire or A.A.A.
YES: Designated Hitter, Draft Slot Trading (must be done during the first round and will apply to the second round as well)
NO: Injuries – They’ll Be Turned Off.
You may use either full or partial players seasons in this round.

CAP –$110

Stadium – For this round, we’re going to go with an even playing field (no pun intended). WHATIFSPORTS Park for Everyone!

Who Moves On?

Once Round TWO is complete, All Division winners and the top 10 teams from each league that didn't win a division will automatically earn a berth in Round Three. That’s 128 teams for 144 spots. As noted above, one thing that did come up in the previous tournament was that by splitting up the owners that move on as per the above criteria, we ended up with a particular owner or two having three or four teams in one Round Two league and then none in any of the others. When something along those lines happens, I'll find someone to swap out one or more of those teams to place them in a different league. I always make sure that when that happens, I swap two teams that have either the same amount of Wins (from their League 1 team) or at the most, within one (i.e., a team with 84 Wins will be swapped out with a team with 84 Wins - unless one can't be found; therefore, we'll look for a team with either 83 or 85 Wins to swap them with, etc.). That way, an owner with multiple teams in the next round will get to play in as many of the different leagues as possible instead of stacking them all up in one or two.

The final sixteen teams will come from the best of the other 64 teams across all eight leagues. Again, this will give everyone something to keep playing for, even if your team isn’t very competitive in your division or for the wildcard.

All N.L. East Division winners go into Round Three, League 1.
All N.L. Central Division winners go into Round Three, League 2.
All N.L. West Division winners go into Round Three, League 3.
All A.L. East Division winners go into Round Three, League 4.
All A.L. Central Division winners go into Round Three, League 5.
All A.L. West Division winners go into Round Three, League 6.

That’s 8 teams in each of the Round Three leagues and 48 teams total.  Once we’ve removed the division-winning teams above, I’ll then do the following:

The next eight best teams in League 1 will go into Round Three, League 1.
The next eight best teams in League 2 will go into Round Three, League 2.
The next eight best teams in League 3 will go into Round Three, League 3.
The next eight best teams in League 4 will go into Round Three, League 4.
The next eight best teams in League 5 will go into Round Three, League 5.
The next eight best teams in League 6 will go into Round Three, League 6.
The next eight best teams in League 7 will be split up between Round Three, Leagues 1 and 3.
The next eight best teams in League 8 will be split up between Round Three, Leagues 4 and 6.

That’s 64 more spots to go along with the 48 already accounted for which makes 112 total. The final 32 spots will be filled by the teams not yet accounted for above. They will be placed in a league by me, based on balance of the league and owner/team situations.

ROUND THREE:

To start things off, here's what I did:  I found the best hitting (based on Runs per Game) squad for each season since 1901 in each league.  Then, I found the best pitching (based on E.R.A.) squad for each season since 1901 in each league.  That gave me 113 choices for N.L. and A.L. each.  Needing 150 choices from both N.L. and A.L. to do what I was trying to accomplish, I then found 37 of the finest pitching and hitting squads from each league that didn't fit the above criteria to round things out.  Therefore, 150 N.L. and 150 A.L. pitching and hitting squads - 25 choices in each of the six leagues of this round.

Okay, here's the deal: Once I've figured out who's in which leagues, I'll establish a draft order for each league, based on the W/L totals (from the 162-game regular season) from the Round TWO leagues. Then, each of the six leagues will begin a draft where each owner will select (1) whether they want an A.L. team or an N.L. team, and (2) which roster they would like to choose to help build their team with. In this set-up, each owner will get two "hitting" squads and two "pitching" squads with which to build your team's roster. For example, you may end up with the 1906 Cubs Hitting, as well as the 1971 Pirates Hitting. Then, you could end up with the 1923 Reds Pitching along with the 1969 Mets Pitching. When you're finished drafting, you'll have two teams that you can build your pitching staff with and you'll have two teams to build your position player roster with. YOU MUST HAVE SIX PLAYERS MINIMUM FROM EACH OF THESE FOUR SELECTIONS. The 25th player can come from any of the four selections.

REMEMBER THIS: You can't take a pitcher from one of your "hitting" selections and you can't take a hitter from one of your "pitching" selections. All pitchers must come from your two pitching selections and all hitters must come from your two "hitting" selections.

ALSO: No mixing and matching A.L. and N.L. Once you make your first selection, it will determine whether you're going to be all N.L. or all A.L.

ALSO (and here's where it can get tough): You must have four position players from each of your hitting squads achieve 550 PA's during the course of the 162-game regular season. That will make sure that no one just uses their second hitting choice as "filler." Also, that will allow you to platoon one player should you decide to go that route. ALSO (again): You must have two Starting Pitchers from each of your two pitching squads achieve 180 IP's during the course of the 162-game regular season.

The draft order for each league will be set up as such: 1-24, 24-1, 24-1 and 1-24. There are 25 selections in each grouping so even the person who picks last in each draft will at least have a choice of two different selections.

Alignment will be in the order the teams are selected. The first four N.L. squads selected will make up the N.L. East, etc. etc.

Here are some other items of interest:

YES:  Clones. Even though they're allowed, I don't see where they're going to be in play very much.
YES:  Designated Hitter
NO:  Waiver Wire, Trades or A.A.A.
NO:  Injuries – They’ll Be Turned Off.

You may use either full or partial players seasons in this round.

CAP –$110

Stadium – In this Round, everyone is going to use WhatIfSports Stadium.

Who Moves On?

Once Round THREE is complete, the top 14 teams from each league will automatically earn a berth in Round Three. That’s 84 teams for 96 spots. The final twelve teams will come from the best of the other 60 teams across all six leagues. Again, this will give everyone something to keep playing for, even if your team isn’t very competitive in your division or for the wildcard.
All Playoff teams from League 1 will go into Round 4, League 1.
All Playoff teams from League 2 will go into Round 4, League 2.
All Playoff teams from League 3 will go into Round 4, League 3.
All Playoff teams from League 4 will go into Round 4, League 4.
The N.L. East and N.L. Central Division Winners from Leagues 5 and 6 go into Round 4, League 1.
The A.L. East and A.L. Central Division Winners from Leagues 5 and 6 go into Round 4, League 2.
The N.L. West and N.L. Wildcard Winners from Leagues 5 and 6 go into Round 4, League 3.
The A.L. West and A.L. Wildcard Winners from Leagues 5 and 6 go into Round 4, League 4.
That’s 12 teams in each of the Round Four leagues and 48 teams total. After that…

The next six best teams in League 1 will go into Round Four, League 1.
The next six best teams in League 2 will go into Round Four, League 2.
The next six best teams in League 3 will go into Round Four, League 3.
The next six best teams in League 4 will go into Round Four, League 4.
The next six best teams in League 5 will be split up between Round Four, Leagues 1 and 2.
The next six best teams in League 6 will be split up between Round Four, Leagues 3 and 4.
That’s 36 more spots to go along with the 48 already accounted for which makes 84 total. The final 12 spots will be filled by the teams not yet accounted for above. They will be placed in a league by me, based on balance of the league and owner/team situations.

ROUND FOUR

I went through the stats pages for every season from 1902 through 2013.  I took the four teams that when stacked in order by winning percentage with all of the other Major League teams that year, fell right smack dab in the middle of the standings.  This is a virtual "potpourri" of teams and players that don't often get used in our leagues together.

In this round, you simply pick the four-team combination from a particular year that you want to use.  You must have a minimum of six players from each of the four teams you pick.  The 25th player can come from any of the four teams that you pick.  No players from any other team/year can be on your roster - only those four teams.  There's only one round of drafting in each of the four leagues in this Round Four of the tournament so we should be playing fairly quick.  Also, there are 28 selections to choose from in each league so even if you pick 24th, you still have five different choices to pick from.

There will be NO N.L. vs. A.L. split in this round.  Draft order for each league will be determined by the number of wins in the previous round.
Alignment will be as per the draft order (unless the same owner picks twice within a four pick space - then I'll simply move one of his choices down or up a division to separate them).

Here are some other items of interest:

NO: Waiver Wire, Trades or A.A.A.
NO: Designated Hitter.
NO: Clones
NO: Injuries – They’ll Be Turned Off.

You may use either full or partial players seasons in this round.

CAP –None – Build the best roster you can!

Stadium – You must use a park that one of your four teams called "Home" that particular year.

Who Moves On?

Once Round FOUR is complete, the top 10 teams from each league will automatically earn a berth in Round Three. That’s 40 teams for 48 spots. The final eight teams will come from the best of the other 56 teams across all four leagues. Again, this will give everyone something to keep playing for, even if your team isn’t very competitive in your division or for the wildcard.

All Playoff teams from Leagues 1 and 2 will go into Round 5, League 1.
All Playoff teams from Leagues 3 and 4 will go into Round 5, League 2.

That’s 16 teams in each of the Round Five leagues and 32 teams total. After that, the final 16 spots will be filled by the teams not yet accounted for above. They will be placed in a league by me, based on balance of the league and owner/team situations.

Round FIVE:

Here’s what we’re doing…

Pretty simple: All of the modern franchises (1903 through 2013) will be listed.  In League One, we'll go all National League and in League Two, we'll go all American League.  When it's your turn to select a team, pick a franchise and then pick a 10-year span of that franchise and build your roster. Ten years may look like 1977-1986 or 1999-2008 or anything similar. It can’t look like 1940-1950 as that would be “11” years. Plus, just to make it a bit more interesting to build your rosters, let’s make sure there’s at least one pitcher and one position player from each of your ten years. That’s twenty players – the other five can come from any of the ten years you’re building with. There will be no IP and PA requirements in this round.

Obviously, more than one individual can choose the same franchise, but their years cannot overlap at all. If someone in League Two wants the 2004-2013 Red Sox and someone wants the 1994-2003 Red Sox, that’s fine.

Alignment will be in conjunction with the Draft Order. The first four selections in each league will make up the N.L. East, the next four selections will make up the N.L. Central, and so on.

Here are some other items of interest:

NO: Waiver Wire, Trades or A.A.A.
NO: Designated Hitter.
NO: Clones.
NO: Injuries – They’ll be Turned Off.

You may use either full or partial players seasons in this round.

CAP – $110M

Stadium – You must use a park that your franchise called home during your team’s time-span.

Who Moves On?

Once Round FIVE is complete, the eight playoff teams from the two leagues will automatically earn a spot in the Final Round – Round Six of the tournament. That’s sixteen spots spoken for. The final eight teams will come from the best of the other 32 teams across the two leagues. Again, this will give everyone something to keep playing for, even if your team isn’t very competitive in your division or for the wildcard.
