Had to go back to the early 70s to find an example? Kinda makes my point. Yes, there are exceptions, but generally, people get worse as their careers progress, and it appears Fielder is no different.
Actually it was the first person I thought of.  Didn't dig at all.
Probably could have tossed out Aaron also without thinking

I'd put an HBD season on that.  You game?
I'll take a 20 dollar gift card on 40 bombs also.

Adam Dunn jumps straight to mind from someone who is still playing...Jim Thome.....If I think about it, I'm sure I can come up with plenty.

Adrian Beltre, Dan Uggla, Josh Willingham....I'll bet I could name tons.

I thought about CarGo, I initially put him on the equivalent list and then took him back off.  He has a little speed, but doesn't steal a ton of bases.  His career high  OBP was 13 points below Prince's career average.  They slug essentially the same and CarGo plays his home games in Coors.  So I don't think he's quite in the same class.  But he is pretty good.  <-- understatement

You do realize Dunn has 75 HRs over the last two years, right?

I'm pretty sure that was exactly his point.

My bad. I thought he was naming guys that declined as they got older. I had he and burnsy mixed up in their arguments.

This post has a rating of , which is below the default threshold.
Well, since a big part of the argument is Fielder's ability to hit 40-50 HRs next season, I'd say Dunn and Uggla help that case.

Yup, just talking about bombs, but Fielder ain't gonna hit .220 either.  There's plenty of players who have had jumps in Hr's throughout their 30's, through the entire history of baseball.  Paul Konerko?   Reggie hit 39 late in his career.  40 a couple of years before that.  Darrell Evans?  Dwight Evans had his career high at 35.  Dave Kingman hit 35 at 37....in Oakland.  I could really go on and on as I look more and more.

How bout that Alfonso Soriano guy this year....

Man, digging through stats I found this season:  Ryan Ludwick?  Are you kidding me?  Never realized this happened.
