Expansion era ballot Topic

This was released on November 4th, with results announced on Monday, December 9 at the winter meetings.  At first glance there are 4 shoe in's (Cox, LaRussa, Torre, Steinbrenner), with Martin, Miller, Simmons very deserving candidates as well.  I really want to find a way to put Steve Garvey in the HOF.  Anybody else agree?

Tommy John should be recognized as a contributor at the very least.  The only player I immediately thought "NO" was Quisenberry but even he has a case since they let Sutter in.

Nobody on this list had more of an impact on the game in the expansion era than Marvin Miller.  Something would be very wrong with this process if he's not selected.

And while I get the "Tommy John as a contributor" angle, I'd argue that Dr. Frank Jobe would be a more appropriate selection (had he been on the ballot)

Nice 'take' & viewpoints on those MLB'rs... Your additional
comment favoring SGarvey, is understated, & VERY much
deserving of further elaboration...

Obviously, the So. Cali-4-nia market of mass population is
valuable to MLB... SGarvey's seasons there were precedent
setting, in many facets... The fan favorite of his time, -in that
region, & he backed it up with World Series appearances at
season's end...

Most astonishing (from an eyewitness point-of-view) was the
"Write-In" portion of the Gillette All-Star ballots... That was an
overwhelmingly awesome milestone in his successful MLB

Thanx much, for refreshing his name... U R VERY RIGHT ON!

The fact that Steve Garvey remained on the HOF ballot for 15 years is telling enough about his candidacy.  He doesn't really have a season that stands out but the overall Hits are impressive and the NL Iron Man streak helps him a ton.  You'd think the 1974 NL MVP and 1984 NLCS MVP, & 5 World Series appearances would've helped his cause.

From 1974-1981, Garvey was an all-star and received MVP votes every season, along with winning 4 straight GG's starting in '74.  That is very impressive right there!

8 more hits in 1977 and Garvey would've had 7 consecutive season of 200+ hits.

Steve Garvey should only get in the HOF if he pays the admission.

AGAIN, it's the Hall of FAME, not the Hall of REALLY GOOD or the Hall of INTERESTING.

Well its become the Hall of very good with the induction of Jim Rice, Andre Dawson, & Bert Blyleven.

I agree. Those three in particular are a JOKE.

You could include Gossage & Sutter in that group. Alomar & Larkin are solid selections IMO.

The fact that any manager gets in, and Steinbrenner and Miller don't, is complete and utter bullshit.

LOL.  Out of the 16 votes, the 3 managers got 16 of 16.  Steinbrenner and Miller got 6 or less.  Complete joke.
