Seattle = dirt-level dumb

Welcome to your newfound popularity in Japan.   And to being forgotten in the US.

This is a great move for Seattle. Ridiculous overpay? Yes. But they should get 5-7 really good years from Cano (this won't be a Pujols scenario), and they've upped the credibility and reputation of the franchise. Overall, I think it's a good business decision. Other than Felix, who else's jersey are fans gonna buy other than Cano now?

And if the Mariners can trade for Price, they're instantly AL West favourites.

Just flat out dumb.  Who's going to learn that 10 year deals are flat out garbage.  Especially for guys that are +30.

Dumb as ****

If Seattle is spending this $, they better be spending $150M per year moving forward.  If he's going to take up a quarter of your contract every year, your $ is better spend elsewhere than on Cano.

That said, for the Yankees, this would have been a better contract than the Ellsbury one.

No, it would not have been.    The back-end of that is going to be so horrible that no one will recall Ellsbury's deal in 7 years.

I'd argue that production per dollar, Cano's deal wins.

This makes Pedroia's deal look amazing.  Love that little midget.

and he loves you in return

I think it'll take a lot more than that.  Mariners scored 130 less runs than they gave up last year.  Cano is a huge upgrade and Price would be, too, but even those two don't make up that gap by themselves and that's just to get them to .500.  I don't follow the Mariners at all, though - are there other positions they can expect improvement in next season?

as an Angels fan, this pains me to admit-Pujols contract from the halos will go down as one of the top 2 or 3 dumbest, worst contracts of all time

This contract is pretty crazy, but I suppose from their perspective, there's no other way for them to get a superstar to Seattle.

As a Mets fan, in my head I'm glad they didn't spend huge money like that, but in my heart I'd love to bring in a major player like that!
