Team is 26-0 RPI 14
5-0 vs. RPI Top 20
3-0 vs. RPI Top 6
2-0 vs. RPI Top 6 on road.
Winning margin of +24 per game(3 games vs. RPI Top 6)
I understand how the RPI system works and how they got there. However, does the RPI system need to be tweaked? Are teams getting penalized too much by winning against weaker teams? Is SOS too much of a factor?
This is Endicott College from another division in D-3 Phelan, not my team however. If you had to rank this team at the end of the season for purposes of tournament seeding, would you consider this the 14th best team? And I also understand that RPI isn't everything during the tournament selection, although it really should be more when you think about it.
In the real life world, you can see this example of how RPI compares to a teams true ranking. One would think there would be some adjusting to the RPI formula, as it proves in this example, that it's far from perfect.
