Sounds like whoever has to travel to ATL should be happy.
wouldn't they be happier playing a home game against Atlanta

ATL wouldn't be happier.    Somebody has to be unhappy.   The team that couldn't win their division should have done better.

they did better than Atlanta.  That is the point.

Depends on what you consider "better".

Only 7 other teams were able to accomplish the same thing as ATL.   My guess is most teams start their season with "Win our division" as a team goal.

That's pretty much it.   Everyone controls their own fate.   Win your games.   Then, if you have to travel to ATL to face a 7-9 division winner, win that game.

Of course the Eagles beat the current NFC South leaders the 5-8-1 Panthers 45-21.  Of course I'd have no problem with the Eagles not making the playoffs since I would still guarantee all division winners a spot in the playoffs, the bigger issue for me is Seattle being forced to play at Carolina in the playoffs (a team Seattle beat 13-9 at Carolina earlier this year and for which they have a 4.5 game lead on by record).  That also forces 10-4 and 3rd seed Dallas to face a 10-4 team in the playoffs rather than the 5-8-1 team.  Earning the 3rd seed should allow you to play the worst team that makes the playoffs in the first round.

It's about the marketing machine.  Division winners get banners.  They also get rewarded for winning their division.  Only 8 teams do that.  Each one gets a home game.  If you're going to seed them based on record only, it further minimizes the importance of the divisional reward system.

Not saying it's right, but I am saying that marketing matters too.

Yeah but winning should matter above all else or what is the point.

Like "winning" your division?

Makes about zero difference now.

AZ, who has no business in the playoffs, goes to Carolina(who finished under .500).   Matters not who wins.

Arizona doesn't deserve to be in the Playoffs? They didn't win more games than the rest of their Conference? Every single game 1-16 counts the same in the NFL, and every team knows it before the season starts, so they certainly do deserve to be in the Playoffs. None of that objective "But they aren't playing as well as this team with more losses." crap in the NFL.

Without a QB, you're not winning.    Now, if you believe in Drew Stanton(who may or may not play), Ryan Lindley or maybe even Logan Thomas, good for you.   But I'd question your football knowledge.

BTW, there are 7 non-playoff teams with a better record than Carolina.    So "Every single game 1-16 counts the same in the NFL" doesn't seem to hold true.

Arizona went 11-5. That's a very good year, and I'd argue Arians should win coach of the year. Obviously an 11-5 team has "business in the playoffs." That said, I bet they lose to the team with the losing record.

So now you're going to argue the opposite view on Division teams and seeding? Just looking to argue with everybody all the time really isn't a great way to be taken seriously by anyone, and flipping sides of the argument to do so is just ridiculous.
