Really good drafting so far although we can all agree Jordan is a surprise at 2.  Gilmore is a beast with a lot of minutes, good pick although I like another guy better.  A lot of owner talent at the top of the draft.

1. tarheel1991 - Wilt Chamberlain, Gary Payton, Brent Barry, C. Weatherspoon, Andre Kirilenko, Brendan Wright, Marcin Gortat

Would have thought Wilt in the hands of 'Heel would be scarier.  Glove is meh here, though I'm higher on him than I used to be.  Love Barry.  Weatherspoon is a major wtf pick here to me.  Then ak47?  Wright & Gortat are decent fillers... but the first thing that jumps out at me is that your starting lineup is going to be around 94 cumulative usage with 10 usage points.  Major mistake in my opinion.  You have nice assists, but the individual usage penalty is going to blank whatever benefit you would have gotten from it.  Turnovers are going to kill you... and boards seem extremely light in the front court.  Losing the shooting struggle & the possession battle is never a good way to win anything consistently.  Ready for the lottery again?
D+

2. iccoachb - Michael Jordan, Kevin Love, Stephen Curry, Rashard Lewis, Samuel Dalembert,JJ Redick, Steve Novak

I wouldn't pick MJ #2, but he's still an incredible guy to build around.  I like Love with him, as you need more usage besides his Airness, and Love brings massive boards to the equation with a smattering of treys for a position that doesn't usually provide it.  His defense is a huge liability in this league, though.  Curry is pretty solid pick, though I think you would have been better served to start looking at specialists instead of more offense.  Still, you have pretty much all the usage you need in 3 guys, so you can really key in on those specialists later.  Lewis really takes this south... you need more boards & defense at the 3 & less offense.  Dalembert in the 5th is fantastic value & helps with the Love problem.  For a little more than half the game, you'll be competitive on the boards.  I hope you find backups to help you for the 3100 minutes Love & Dalembert aren't on the floor!  Redick's okay, as is Novak, but both... don't like the redundancy here (low usage bombers that do nothing else for you).  You'll be competitive in the shooting struggle with the good efg%, but your defense will let your opponents be competitive as well.  Gonna give a pass on possession control, but that's assuming you find someone to backup Love & Dalembert.  C-

3. sixernuggets - Moses Malone, Zelmo Beatty, Steve Nash, AC Green, Nick Anderson, Jamaal Tinsley, Rick Barry

I like Kareem ahead of Moses, but he does give you a ton of minutes of good efg%, elite rebounding & goo defense.  I think Beatty was a reach here... certainly could have been gotten later.  Defensive boards are your biggest weakness & you could have shored that up with this pick.  I love Nash here, but you're really starting to lose the possession battle just with turnovers alone.  Green is a serviceable 3 man, bringing boards & defense - solid pick.  Love Anderson - he brings you a ton of good and very little bad.  Tinsley is a fantastic rotation point & Barry (assuming you're using the 1400 minute version) will bring you some powerful offense off the bench. I feel like you're solid in the shooting struggle & will remain competitive despite Nash & Zelmo's defenses.  I think you lose the possession battle & win the foul factor.  Honestly, this team falls into the ever popular 30-50 club.  You could win 30 or win 50... hard to really predict without seeing the other 5 guys at this point.  Zelmo in round 2 turns a B- into a C+

4. malone9975 - Lebron James, Tyson Chandler, Amare Stoudemire, Lamar Odom, Reggie Miller, Dan Gadzuric, Mark Jackson

Got a steal with Lebron at 4.  Chandler in 2 is a gift.  I feel like Stoudemire was your first mistake, though he does bring so many positives to the table.  Odom is nice at the 3, but I'd like to have seen a lower usage board hoarder instead of Stoudemire & maybe Chris Webber here instead.  Webber is like Odom only a better defender with more usage.  Love love love Reggie paired with Lebron in the back court, though.  Your offense is something to be greatly feared... should have a pair of 57% efg guys with a 60 as your highest usage guys, and then Chandler and Odom bring in some more good stuff.  You're going to have a ton of shootouts with your below average defense, but you should win that shooting struggle more than you lose it with this offense.  Gadzooks is a fantastic rotation guy in round 6 (and one of my personal favorites).  A partial season Jackson works well in rotation here.  I like this team a lot better than it probably will perform... I think you're light on defensive boards & despite his great tov% & ast%, Lebron turns it over a ridiculous amount of times.  Miller & Stoudemire help balance that, though, and with the amount of usage you have, individual penalties just should not happen.  Solid B

5. maglor1 -  Dennis Rodman, Larry Nance, Bob Lanier, Tracy McGrady, Mike Conley, Kenny Smith, Dale Davis

Love Worm... really don't like the Nance pick at all, though.  Too many people draft Worm and then pick another forward that totally gives away what advantage you had when you picked Worm.  Why don't I ever seen a Worm team take a Shawn Kemp, Buck Williams or Mel Daniels in round 2?  Anyway.  Lanier is a fine fit, you just could have done better by taking that type of guy on round 2 then grabbing another board hoarder in round 3 or going with a dynamic back court guy.  I like Tmac though have rarely had success with him.  Nice turnover situation you have brewing with him & Nance, however.  Conley doesn't really help you in the shooting struggle.  The Jet is a fantastic rotation guy in lower cap, but I don't dig him here.  Davis gives you nice offensive boards but is completely average on the defensive end.  This team has decent possession control capabilities with decent defense, but you really will live & die by Tmac, which, I can attest to, is not a championship strategy.  C+

6. natenoy - Kevin Durant, Ray Allen, Deron Williams, Jerry West, Wes Unseld, Reggie Evans & Tayshaun Prince

I'll be honest... I haven't paid much attention to your pf/fta ramblings in this thread at all, and so I'm going to judge this team in the standard way I see things.  I love Durant and think he has vast potential... but I just can't get the bastard to do anything in the sim even equal to his real life numbers much less pass them.  I probably will never build a draft league team around him again, so I'm being a bit biased.  I have built & won a draft league with Kareem who, for some reason beyond comprehension, is still undrafted at this point.  Also - Dwight Howard.  Tried & true beats black & blue (as in how my head feels right now in the ODL & in previous draft leagues) using Durant.  Allen confuses me because that means you're using Durant & his 1% oreb at a forward spot.  Williams is a solid point guard & could have been a great back court mate to either Allen or Durant.  Jerry West... wtf.  I'm done with trying to break this down.  You're going to get killed on the boards and in turnovers.  Defense is meh, Durant will not shoot anything like he does IRL despite the fact that you have plenty of assists, so your shooting struggle is at best a pass.  You draw lots of fouls & foul very little.  Cool.
C-

7. theyard2 - Kareem-Abdul Jabbar, Robert Parish, Horace Grant, Rajon Rondo, Charlie Ward, James Posey, Javale McGee

Thank you for taking the Captain.  Please treat him well.  Parish isn't treating him well.  I like the Chief, and I like him in this league, but not with the Captain.  Captain needs dominant boards - defensive especially - and the Chief gives you more on the offensive end.  Same with HoGr.  Nice efg%, nice offensive boards, but lacking on the defensive board end.  Not a huge Rondo fan, but with the Ward & Posey rotation, I do like your back court.  McGee will get some nice rotation time in.  You should always be competitive if not win the shooting struggle, but the possession battle I don't see going favorably for you.  Fouls, despite how great Kareem is, is not a strong point here (he doesn't draw that many for the time he's on the floor or the number of fgs he'll put up).  B

8. thomcat - Artis Gilmore, Patrick Ewing, Walt Frazier, Mark Price, Cedric Maxwell, Kostas Koufos, Kyle Korver

I get Gilmore... I really do.  I think you're using the wrong one, though.  I don't get Ewing on this team with him, though.  If you're going to pick a lower rebounding big man to pair with him, you should have picked one that was 99% or 100% at PF.  Mourning would have been better here.  Shawn Kemp would have been even better.  Frazier is a nice player in this league, but not feeling him on this squad at all.  I love Price, but he has really no business going in round 4 of this league.  Cornbread was a nice value in round 5.  Koufos is a head scratcher for me.  Korver helps a ton, though.  Nice efg%, pretty good defense.  Weak on the boards.  Lots of turnovers.  Lots of fouls. C

9. banditone- Larry Bird, Dana Barros, Connie Hawkins, Peja Stojakovic, Nate Thurmond, Leandro Barbosa & John Salmons

I'm not in your division so you won't win 5 or 6 games just by being the antithesis of what I believe wins games.  Bird, to me, is still too high, though he's okay.  Waaaaay too high for Barros, though I believe he belongs in this league.  Same with Hawk, but I appreciate the squad thus far.  Peja is where it really goes downhill in my eyes.  Both Peja & Bird are shooting guards in this league, and Hawkins is a SF.  You lose the rebound war.  Thurmond helps but is a much better rotation guy than a big minute board lord.  I like Barbosa as a rotation back court guy.  I don't get the Salmons pick with all of the smalls you have here already.  Pass on the shooting struggle, but not by much.  I think you'll get out shot as much as you out shoot your opponent.  You lose the possession war.  C-

10. seapilots - Ben Wallace, Bob McAdoo, Terry Porter, Andrew Bynum, Jose Calderon, Andre Igudala, Nicholas Batum

Big Ben - always a solid first round pick even if it's a little high for him.  I honestly don't understand how Dwight, the centerpiece of the previous two championship teams isn't drafted here.  Anyway.  I like Ben.  McAdoo is a nice pair with him, though I'd have liked a little more offensive rebounding here, but I can't fault the Mac pick.  Hey, it's Terry Porter, the guy at least 7 other teams should have drafted instead of the point guard they did.  Good job here.  I love Bynum here, but I have to take a minute to figure out wtf you're doing.  Are you starting Wallace at SF offensively & letting the front 3 switch around on the defensive end?  Might work.  Might work really well.  If this is what you're doing, please keep me updated on how it works... because you don't care about a 10% usage guy's offense, but he'll likely end up at the 4 or 5 on defense where you want him... as I said, keep me updated.  I like Calderon here.. & then Iggy/Batum in the fold, I really like your back court rotation.  Great efg%, great boards, solid defense (a little weak in the back court), low turnovers, plenty of usage... everything checks out.  If you're doing what I think you're doing, A-

11
. dh555 - Shaquille O'Neil, Jerry Lucas, Mookie Blaylock, Chris Mullin, Chris Andersen, Charlie Edge, Rodrigue Beaubois

Shaq's been good to me in this sim.  It's extremely hard to find his kind of efg%, usage% & low tov%.  Always going to be at least decent on defense.  Always gonna give you 30%+ creb.  Always gonna draw a ton of fouls & make the paint/perimeter game very difficult to defend.  I think you could have done better than Lucas on the boards, but the guys I would have recommended had already been picked so... dunno.  I did the Shaq/Mookie thing once & hated it.  Mookie gives you a ton of good in this league, but his 6/17 games will be make you want to throw your monitor through a window, especially when Shaq doesn't shoot it much. Oh, hey, Mullin was my SG on that team, too.  I like Mullin.  I think he belongs in this league.  He's a 4th or 5th rounder for sure... great efg%.  A smattering of 3s.  Decent boards for a 2.  Decent assists.  Decent getting to the line.  Turns the ball over a ton, though.  Is Shaq going to say, "Bird Man Bird Man" 2 or 3 times every game being on the same team?  Very nice small forward rotation with him & Edge.  Defense.  Boards.  Andersen gives you some decent fg% while he's in.  Beaubois is one of my favorite super-subs.  Very nice backup to Mullin.  Overall, I'm a little concerned with possession control, though I think you'll be in it most nights if not ahead some.  Shooting is strong... but Mookie's gonna shoot you out of it some nights.  Should make the playoffs.
B+

12
. felonius - Dwight Howard, Bill Walton, Clyde Drexler, Ken Faried, Jason Terry, Erick Dampier, Detlef Schrempf

When will Howard quit getting overlooked.  He's back-to-back champion here.  Walton is a fantastic compliment up front.  Glide is a perfect compliment in the back court:  some threes, good boards, good assists, good defense... okay efg%, nice 2nd fiddle... and was, coincidentally, the SG to last year's championship squad.  Faried is a fantastic three man, but I'm not quite as big a fan in this cap.  Still, serious efg% & boards is never a bad thing.  Terry is that guy I always forget about till the round after I draft someone else that should have been Terry.  He has tons of strengths with very few weaknesses... and despite what he does IRL, he plays defense here.  Dampier is as decent a backup for Walton as you could get at this point.  Detlef is a guy I've always wanted to use but could never pull the trigger on.  Too expensive for the $47m cap league but defense too low for this one.  He'd be an excellent 2/3 rotation guy in this league, however, and that looks exactly like what you're going for.  You should have the possession battle won most of the time, though turnovers will kill you from time to time.  Could use a touch more ast% to feed Dwight, but with the quality defense & efg% you have, I think the shooting struggle should be won most of the time.  Dwight will cause a ton of fouls & you've got enough 3s to cause more problems.  I feel like Dwight should be in contention for a three-peat in the hands of the felon... but the seble curse could cause catastrophe as we all well know.
B+

13. slymonium - David Robinson, Chauncey Billups, Serge Ibaka, Paul Pierce, Swen Nater, Ed Davis, J.R. Smith

Love the admiral but have never been able to get out of him what I think he should give.  I think Mailman gives more in the current game.  I'm coming back around on Big Shot.  His possession control game combined with his low fouls/high fta & good defense helps me to forgive his modest efg%.  Nice inside-out.  Ibaka makes things start to get real scary defensively, but you're board lite.  Pierce is a fantastic two, and I see that you're using the right version for this squad.  Excellent.  Nater helps shore up the boards in a big way.  I paired the Admiral with Nater in this very league many, many seasons ago... the results weren't what I hoped, but I think you've surrounded them with better pieces than I did.  Davis & Smith are stud rotation guys and fit in extremely well with what you got going here.  I'm very curious as to who is backing up your first two picks, though.  Stud reserves go fast in this league.  I think you're flat on possession control but ahead of the game in both the shooting struggle & foul factor.  Above .500 or I'm very disappointed.  Playoff bound.
B+

14
. badja - Karl Malone, Donyell Marshall, Anfernee Hardaway, Roy Tarpley, Troy Murphy, Sidney Moncrief, Ryan Anderson

I'm a big fan of the Mailman in draft leagues.  He brings everything you want offensively & is not a liability on the defensive end.  Needs lots of help on the boards, though.  Marshall's got that unique skillset that neither makes nor breaks a squad.  Really starting to get low on offensive boards.  Penny is a stud - how'd he make it to round 3? - and is a great fit here.  Tarpley helps on the boards, but I don't like any of his high minute seasons with this team.  Murphy is someone I like a lot, but you already had issues on the offensive boards, so... Anderson makes up a bit for that... and Moncrief in the 6th?  He was a key keg of Brad's championship team 2 seasons ago.  I don't care for guards that don't give me threes, but when you have Marshall, Anderson & Murphy on your squad, that's okay!  Good defense.  Killer efg%.  A pass on the boards overall.  Turnovers seem potentially high.  Ahead in the foul game.  This team seems to have most of the things you want in a squad taken care of, but I'm still not completely sold for championship potential.  I do see playoffs in your future. B+

16
. jkaye24 - Bill Russell, Elton Brand, Kobe Bryant, Anthony Mason, Terrell Brandon, A. Varejao, Vince Carter

Russell's a solid pick.  3600 minutes of top tier boarding and above average/good defense... I'll take it.  Still not a Brand fan, but he does give you reasonable pluses with very little minuses.  Kobe is great for a possession control squad, which this turning out to be.  The Mason pick confused me - you already have a SF in Brand.  Brandon is a key possession control type point.  Varejao is a fantastic rotation player in the sim currently, and Vinsanity has some great lower minute seasons to use in rotation with Kobe.  He's another possession control player.  This whole team seems aimed at that... only the Mason pick falls out of character. 40-50 wins feels right despite that lack of any real efg% monsters.  The good defense doesn't make up for lack of any good efg%, but it goes a long way.  B

17
. mikee1 - Chris Paul, Marcus Camby, Alonzo Mourning, Joakim Noah, Andre Drummond, Dirk Nowitzki, Brandon Rush

I've recently come to appreciate CP3 much more since I drafted him in a progressive.  I've used him extensively in OLs now and really, really appreciate what he brings to a team.  My previous bias against him was the lack of 3s or the lack of ftas.  Hogwash.  His tov% combined with his usage & ast% is flat out insane.  He has several viable seasons & can even be the "top dawg" of the squad.  To get him at 17 is pretty damn fantastic.  Camby & Mourning continue this formidable defensive theme with Mourning giving you serious scoring at a high percentage.  Noah is a great three for almost any team, and this one is no exception.  He even gives a few assists, too.  Drummond was a fantastic rotation guy with Camby, and since this is $52m, you can afford it.  Rush completes an fantastic offensive & defensive force that should win most of the possession battles if not dominate in that area.  Dirk kind of came out of nowhere.  If you're planning on using a lower-minute version in rotation with Mourning, cool.. it'll work out (kind of) with Camby/Drummond to cover for him.  If you're planning on using a lower minute Mourning, I'm no longer as big of a fan.  I think you could have done better than Dirk even if you were planning the former, but this team is still my favorite thus far and gets an A-.

18
. pennsylvania - Charles Barkley, Oscar Robertson, Bobby Jones, Chris Webber, P. Ellison, B. Gross, Larry Steele

Chuck at 18 is a steal.  Pure thievery.  Oscar provides a lot for a lot of minutes, doesn't get in Chuck's way & helps continue the rebounding advantage you started.  Jones kind of hurts that but gives you a great defensive counterbalance to Chuck.  Webber is a question mark here, as you have now drafted three small forwards.  Ellison isn't enough of an answer.  Gross... I assume you'll play him at the 2.  That helps you bounce back on the offensive boards but gives you virtually nothing offensively or on the defensive boards.  Larry Steele is okay but has low usage, but I can't get past your drafting of three small forwards.  I feel like you're going to let opponents get too many offensive boards & turn the ball over a ton yourself.  You've got great shooting between Chuck & Jones with plenty of dimes from Big O & C-web with decent defense... gonna give you a pass in the shooting struggle.  This team feels very .500ish to me.  No Wilt bailing you out on this one.  C

19. scudmissle - Hakeem Olajuwon, Julius Erving, Buck Williams, M. Cheeks, D. Majerle, Danny Green, DeJuan Blair

Not a fan of the first two picks.  Defense is more important now than it used to be, but I still don't see either Dream or the Doctor carrying a team to a championship here.  Buck was a nice pickup, but turnovers are starting to get worrisome.  Cheeks is solid but gives you few boards and no threes.  Majerle helps with the threes, contributes solid defense & some offensive boards.  I guess this means Dr. J is playing the 3 for you.  Lots of offensive boards on this squad, but I feel like it's missing some defensive boards.  Green is excellent off the bench for Majerle, and Blair is a great front court reserve.  Defensive boards & turnovers lead to losing the possession battle.  Strong defense & decently solid shooting lead to a pass if not slight advantage in the shooting struggle.  I feel like the division determines whether this is a 30 win team or a 45 win team.  B-

20. eleibowitz - Tim Duncan, Shawn Marion, Tom Boerwinkle, Eddie Jones, Kevin Johnson, Chris Gatling, C. Alexander

This team just screams leibo to me... solid defense, everything covered, but nothing truly fearsome.  Sometimes those are the best teams.  It basically comes down to Duncan: If you use the right one, I feel like this is a very, very good team:  Great boards, great d, reasonable turnovers, lots of dimes to help the already high efg%... If you use one of the wrong Duncans, though... Ouch.  I feel pretty confident that you'll be above .500, a strong playoff contender and quite possibly getting a first round bye.  B+

21. tricky24 - Kevin Garnett, D. Mutombo, Gerald Wallace, Carlos Boozer, Derek Harper, J. Nelson, K. Humphries

I didn't like the start of this team... I'm still not a Garnett fan in this sim.  The only season I really like is not worth a first round pick.  Mutombo is one of those elite board/good defense or good board/elite defense guys... but not both.  He can't cover for Boozer, either, or I'd absolutely love that pick.  As it is, I feel like you'll get abused a bit.  Wallace was a great pick, however, giving you lots of good.  Harper was a nice point guard for this squad.  I haven't run the numbers, but the usage seems low to me.  Could be right on, though.  Nelson is one of my favorite back up points (nice efg%, decent ast%, low tov%) and humphries was flat thievery in the 6th.  I don't like the start but loved the finish.  My gut says this is a .500 team, but your defense/possession control should put you ahead of that.  C+

22. vancem - Magic Johnson, Kevin McHale, Mel Daniels, Emeka Okafor, James Harden, Jon Barry, Arvidas Sabonis

Sad that Magic going late 1st is appopriate... but it is.  His boarding prowess really helps make up for McHale's lack of it at the 3.  Nice offensive combo, however.  Daniels & Okafor give you exactly what you need: boards, ok defense & a smattering of decent offense.  Harden is like a supercharger on a fine motor - he'll make this ride that much more powerful.  Barry is one of my favorite backups, as is Sabonis.  I love this squad, though it doesn't feel like a dominant one.  Still should easily make the playoffs & possibly contend for a division.  B

23. steelers821  - Dwayne Wade, S. Pippen, Shawn Kemp, Tree Rollins, Larry Sanders, Eldon Campbell, P. Milsap

Holy defense, batman!  Usage is covered.  Boards should be strong.  Turnovers should scare the hell right out of you.  Other than that, this squad is super solid.  I think we might be underselling Wade.  He gives you a ton of good stuff.  I don't care for high volume/average efg% guys, but it seems like the trend is swinging more this way lately.  I wouldn't want to play your team 8x this season.  B

24. longtallbrad - J. Stockton, Manu Ginobili, Walt Bellamy, Marques Johnson, C. Oakley, Kyrie Irving, Cadillac Anderson

I'm struggling to figure this one out.  There's not really anything wrong with it at first glance... it just doesn't look at all scary.    You're covered decently well on boards... turnovers should be really high to offset that.  EFG% should be good with Stockton AND Ginobili pushing the show... but it just doesn't feel like enough offense.  Irving is a nice fill for Ginobili & will do backing up Stockton... I think you'll be up & down a lot with this one.  Neighborhood of .500, struggling to stay in the playoff race.  C

I've now looked at all the teams & completed my duty for evals.  I feel strongly that mikee has the best 7 of anyone drafted.  I only gave 2 As & 1 D.  I think this is pretty reflective of this league's general parity.  There are typically only a couple of teams that break the 50 win barrier & only a few that end up with less than 30 wins.  I gave the As to the ones I thought most likely to break said plateau.  To be honest, I expect the one D I gave to win more than 30 games.  I'm sure that some teams I trashed will do much better than I anticipated while some teams I praised will tank.  This is how these things go.  Good luck to the 23 of you.

I never had a chance to draft Rodman before. With this trade, I can truly have a team different from all the previous teams.

sort of lop sided deal

agreed
12/29/2013 1:37 PM
stockton and manu look good together... except for those woeful 2300 mins. wonder what his numbers would have looked like if he had played 2800 mins?
12/29/2013 2:53 PM
i'm thinking his price tag would've been... um... $8.2 mil
12/29/2013 2:54 PM
Turnovers a little high but you gotta love everything else
12/29/2013 2:59 PM
yep, a little high, but, like you said,  he's high energy

wonder what rodman's 1500 min (3.9mil) season would cost if he had played 2800 mins (if extended out). 20%oreb. 31% dreb. 90 D. 57%fg... um... that might be flirting with 10mil... 57% is pretty damn good. better than his 9.3 mil one.
