Sochi League (7 in) Topic

EDITED

Anyone up for an Olympics inspired league? I thought it would be cool to see which team/era is the best. My idea is for us to choose an Olympic period and a country. All team members must have been eligible to play for your country (did not need to actually play in the Olympics) and you must use one of his seasons from that period. Each country/era is exclusive.

Countries

Canada
Russia
United States
Sweden/Finland
Czechoslovakia
Rest of the world

Eras

Sochi - 2010-11 to 2012-13
Vancouver - 2006-07 to 2009-10
Turin - 2002-03 to 2005-06
Salt Lake - 1998-99 to 2001-02
Nagano - 1994-95 to 1997-98

For example, Vancouver games and Canada could include one of Crosby's seasons from2006-07 to 2009-10. Sochi games Canada would have A Crosby season from 2010-11 and on only.

No clones, no trades, max injuries 4

Salary cap - I propose $125 million but will listen to input.

League number to come.

TEAMS TAKEN

Canada Nagano - wheels68
Russia Vancouver - coolmoris00
United States Salt Lake - raimund

Cool! Welcome. I will pick a team once we get a critical mass.

I would take 06-09 Russian squad, let me suggest something, Why not put Russians with Belarus, just like you put Finland/Sweden and Chechs/Slovakians in the same group. Just a thought, it would make teams a little fair, because not all players from Russian team play for NHL, a lot play in KHL. I am taking a team regardless, I hope salary cap not more than 120mil. No clones, right?

It seems fair to me to make it the USSR team. I wondered how to include other countries as well, like Germany and Switzerland. I briefly considered a "rest of the world team" but did not see enough depth.

No clones. No trades (obvious, I guess). I hadn't thought of a salary cap - it's my first try at a league. I will check the various teams to see what would be fair.

Suggestion: leave Russians as is, and create another group: REST OF THE WORLD: it would include germany, swiss, norway, slovenia, all other ex USSR republics (belarus, ukraine, latvia, kazakhstan etc), and other, smaller, european countries.

I am ready to take another team of REST OF THE WORLD, will decide later which years, it will require some research

I like this theme and ran similar ones. I'll take a team if it flies. I'll try drafting a team but I seem to thik it could be tough to get a strong roster because of the year restrictions...but I hope I'm wrong

Ok guys, I made an extensive research and there is no way to get a decent World team if one to use only 1 4-year period. The average team salary is 75 mil. May I suggest to use more than 1 period - either 1.5 period or 2 period, for example  I could get a team from 2006-2013 (130 mil team) or even 08-13(about 110 mil team) or 07-13 (120 mil team). Let me know what you think, because noone will take world team for 4 year or even 3 year frame.
