NFL DRAFT LEAGUE--Rosters and commentary Topic

got a 90/73 OL to go with my running game and should get bulger to throw to Harrison. my plan is starting to come together. hopefully, I can get the next piece. based on my current balance, any teams DEF should be ok for me because I will not be able to afford anything over $28m it looks like.

it will be the classic, can I outscore you, because my D will not stop you a lot

Yep I'm scared Glen. Could be a very tough run game to stop.

Can anyone give me the scoop on kicker FG ratings? When a guy is kicking does his real-life performance from the various distances make any difference or is it only determined by his FG rating? Like will a guy with 75 FG rating who made 0% of 40-49 in real life have the same chance of making a 40-yarder as a guy with a 75 FG rating who made 100% of 40-49?

and if you overload the run ..... I will have a procession type receiving game to mix it up with. bulger does not throw many interceptions, and Harrison catches a lot of balls

good Q tarheel; I don't know the answer.
2/13/2014 9:26 AM
I know FG ratings for all years up to 1974 are exactly the kickers actual overall percentage.....from 1975 onward the rating involves distance kicking.......why its like this I don't know, I had a stat guide as a kid from 1969 that gave distance breakdowns, the information was available.....My gut feeling says its just 1 number for all kicks, but I can't point to any facts on that....I've always received great performance from a '100' rated kicker, including those from the 40's who only kicked 1 Real Life FG....

I think distance does matter but I've never tested that thoroughly since I normally keep my kickers out of the game as much as possible. In open leagues I rarely kick FGs, but in this league where defenses are more dominant, I will be paying attention to it.

general Q: has anyone tried to assess where in the total salary range Super-Bowl-caliber teams like this year's Bronocs and Seahawks would fall? As we draft 75M clubs, would they be worse or better than the top-notch "real" teams?

As far as kickers go, you can go to profootball reference.com and search any player.  On the guy's page, it has a detailed breakdown of how each kicker did by distance.
2/13/2014 4:09 PM
ah, but does the SIM use that?
2/13/2014 4:20 PM
I don't know, but that's the bet way I know how to set it up.
2/13/2014 4:48 PM
If you notice for the Seattle and Denver rosters above, the only rating for the kicker is FG and XP, whereas all the other positions show all of the assorted ratings that are used per player.........................so I would assume from this that the only rating that matters is his ONE FG rating.

In a league like this with the TOP skilled players i figured DEF was my best shot. I agree totally with someones previous statement that Sack INT DRIVE and RED ZONE ratings are over rated in this type of league. Of those INT and RED ZONE I believe are way over rated due to everyone using the best players ever. Now in a keeper/regressive/custom league DEF ratings mean alot more because you use average players. A DEF rated 90 in Int sure seems worth the money when you go against guys like Jeff George, Bernie Kosar, Steve Deberg......all good QBs but certainly not Brady Brees Rodgers or Manning. Another factor in taking my DEF pick 1st was the numbers game.......there are ONLY 32 DEF available where I have much better odds of getting a great skilled player in later rounds. I took the Bolt's DEF because it gave me three key categories.....Great run rate, good pass rate and good drive. There are certainly other DEF better in those categories such as Bears, Ravens, Vikings to name a few BUT they came at a much higher cost. Now for my off the wall opinion......Top end running backs are over rated???? I have never felt I got my $$$ out of OJ, Brown, AP, etc. I get the same production out of guys like Larry Johnson, Earl Campbell, and John Riggins at a much cheaper cost. Maybe in this format they will be worth their weight in gold??? I personally have always done better with a "QB" or "BALANCED" based team.
Just the ramblings of someone who has been in 6 different airport and maybe has jet lag!!!!

My 2nd pick O-line was just based off wanting to attempt to control the ball with a running game and accurate QB to get 3rd downs on. Not the best pass rating but I was willing to give that up for the 100 run rating. As for others being surprised on the Nick Foles pick.....I had actually really considered taking him with my #3 and even after taking Plum I was going to take Foles with a later pick which would have made my team much different.
