badja, this is what ash is talking about:

ur top 3 scorers
                          per%  mid%   pnt%
Malone             1         50        49
Hardaway        23       33        44
Moncrief           1         43        55
1500 3's is 1500 3's.   What does that have to do with my guys fouling the opp a ridiculous amount while the opp fouls much less than they should in 2 straight games?
It has a huge impact on them fouling you.  If you don't know why, try going back and reading my help thread... specifically the section of foul factor.

One of the things that made me very successful early on was that I took extreme advantage of a programming flaw that to this day still exists in the sim: defensive positioning.  If your opponent doesn't have their positioning set to correctly defend your team, they will foul more.  Most players will leave the positioning at 0 by default, therefore if you have an extreme inside-outside team (ie high paint% scorers mixed with high perimeter% scorers - ie 3pt bombers), you cause more fouls.  Couple this with players that already have a high rate of going to the line and suddenly you can start winning much more than if you had not.  What is the perfect balance here?  I can't tell you; it's always changing.  Which leads me to...?

and meanswile you can check out his 700 3's vs. my 1500 and his 2300 fouls vs. my 1700.  Apparently this rule only hurts my team but not his?  Please, guys.  Just admit my team losing the FT battle 134 to 88 is a joke and leave it at that.  You are grasping at any straw you can to justify the sim outliers?.

I would say it was a matchup problem, but that wasn't the case during the reg season.  Outliers, period.

I would say it was a matchup problem, but that wasn't the case during the reg season.  Outliers, period.
Dude.  I'm agreeing with you.  I'm not justifying any outlier;  I simply offered some advice to help decrease the chance that outliers like this will occur, yet you are just dismissing it without even considering its merit.  It's like you're trying to win an argument that nobody is even having with you and immediately disregarding anything anyone says that isn't "yeah the sim's a joke lolz."
yes, the discrepency is ridiculous
Nonetheless, I still agree; it's absurd.

I'm done with this discussion.  Peace.

Actually Ash it is the other way around.

I agree that offensive floor spacing matters....a lot.  Which is why my team had a bunch of gunners.  But clearly the sim couldn't have cared less given that his spacing was all mid range and post and he made out better at the stripe than I did.

In the second round, he has had games with 23, 25 and 26 fouls.  Which makes sense and just proves what outliers the first 2 games were.

Last thing on this:  I was #4 in 3's in the league.  He was #24.  So my question Ash is why you think my floor spacing was bad to begin with?   FWIW, your advice is a big reason why I drafted so many 3's to begin with!

I had a really long, detailed response that i thought I sent.  Looks like I didn't.

The short of it is that you want the higher usage guys to be your extremes.  If the guy most likely to take the field goal attempt is most likely going to take it from the range that falls into what most owners leave their defensive positioning set to because it's wonky as hell... That's not helping the cause at all.  Don't get me wrong; threes help no matter what usage, but two of your top three usage guys should be opposite extremes.  I went through all 8 of my draft league champions to demonstrate this, but apparently I didn't hit submit, I'm not repeating that effort.  My ideal setup is something like this:

highest usage:  60%-90% paint scorer
2nd highest:  35%-45% perimeter
3rd highest:  25%-45% perimeter
4th highest:  40%+ perimeter
5th highest:  60%+ paint

(where none of the guys have a higher mid% than paint + perimeter)
(the last two can be swapped)

Do that (with low PF & high FTA/poss on the highest usage guys), and it'll go a long way towards giving you the best chance to consistently win the free throw battle.  Again - we're talking chance & statistics, though.

^Agreed.

Update, the team with the most PF's, lowest 3's and worst 3 point% in reg season, has won 2 road series and is up 2-0 on the road in conf finals.

We've seen defense dominate the 52 league in the past and it looks as if it is working well for him on that team.

defense is pretty much king in the sim at the moment.  Very annoying.

and when the super high d/high foul guys like kemp and tree dont foul(steelers hasnt even come close to hitting his season average yet in any of the 3 games) it becomes almost impossible to make up for the dip in efg% you get playing against his defense...hoping the sim leaves me a nice 40fta present in this am game to even up the series
