Why don't you tell us more about how BABIP should include home runs?
I already did.  I'm sorry you weren't able to follow along.

Why don't you tell us more about Kenny Lofton's HOF creds?

Yeah, it was hilarious. I wanted you to say it again.

I'll gladly go over Lofton's case again. Long story short: he's a borderline candidate who is underrated because most of his value came from defense.

LOL.

You're funny.  Like a clown.

Outfielders only get  historical credit for being great defenders if they also hit.

Wait...LOL? The only thing that was funny was your "BABIP should include HR" idiocy. So...are you laughing at yourself? If so, doesn't that make you the clown?

I know, right?  I mean, how stupid can I be to not realize that some types of hits should be excluded from a statistic that calculates a batting average when a ball is hit?

It's not calculating batting average when a ball is hit.

What's the "BA" stand for?

How does "BIP" happen without a ball getting hit?

5/22/2014 9:20 AM

"In play" means...well, "in play."  A home run is not a ball in play.  It's over a wall, it's out of play.

I know, difficult concept, right?

When you put a ball in a position where a fielder has a chance to do something with it, how successful is the batter?  That's what the stat is measuring.  You came up with your own stat that shows how good Mark Reynolds is.  So...

A batter hits a fly ball in fair territory.  It goes 370 feet.

Is it included in BABIP?
5/22/2014 9:59 AM
It depends if it's in play or not.  Because it's "batting average on balls in play."
5/22/2014 10:04 AM
It's just a stat, and it has its own specific purpose.  If you don't like it, fine.  There are stats I also don't like.

For ****'s sake, tec, stop arguing about BABIP.    You think it's a dumb stat but it is what it is.   You can't argue what it is.
5/22/2014 10:07 AM
It's like FIP.   Possibly the dumbest stat created.   The opposite of BABIP.    When someone starts arguing the value of FIP, I call them a moron and move on.   Time to call someone a moron and move on.   Otherwise, BL is going to ramble on about how you don't understand "advanced metrics".
