Delaware is just a stretch of road - part of I-95 - that links the New Jersey Turnpike to Maryland. It runs for maybe 11 miles. In those 11 miles you pay three tolls - you get on to the Delaware stretch of the highway, go over a bridge and something else, maybe leave Delaware - the last time I drove it - some years ago you paid around $9 for those 11 miles.
The state is a feudal estate - the Du Pont family essentially owns it and it has such lax regulations on chartering corporations that despite being the size of a medium size ranch in Texas or Wyoming it has a huge percentage of all the corporations in the US chartered there. It is to big business what Liberia is to shipping and the Cayman Islands are to tax shelters.
I say we fold Delaware into New Jersey and Maryland and give some place that deserves it a shot to be a state. Any ideas? After all, changing that nice round 50 stars on the flag would be a hassle. Though there is an independence movement in Hawaii so maybe we can just pull out the old "lower 48" flags...
