Musial played more games at both first and left than he did in right.

He played more OF total than 1B. If you want to count him as a LF, that's fine. He still makes it easily and balances out LF and RF with four each.

Not good enough to make it as an OF or 1B. Look at his competition.

The small hall is tough. Cream of the crop only.

We can expand it to get in guys like Rose, Beltre, and Jeter, if you want. But that really opens things up. There are a lot of players in that tier.

You're lumping Rose in with Beltre?

That's retarded.

Why? Similar OPS+, Rose has more hits but Beltre has provided more value on defense and a lot more power.

In the "not in HOF" club, it appears they're together.

From my perspective it's retarded for a guy who has been blasting "compilers" as HOF candidates to advocate for Pete Rose.  He is the epitome of a compiler.

This post has a rating of , which is below the default threshold.
This is more of a "best 3 or 4 at every position regardless of historical importance" hall.

Catcher is tough. You could make the argument that only one is automatic.

I think I'd go:

Bench
Carter
Piazza

Fisk, Berra, and Ivan Rodriguez also have strong cases. But adding them opens the gates to adding a bunch of similar guys like Dickey, Cochrane, and Simmons.
Personally, I'd cut Carter and include Berra, but you did say you were ignoring historical significance.

I'd also take Rodriguez over Carter in a heartbeat, and ultimately likely take Fisk over Carter as well...

Catcher was the hardest for me. I don't think any stat captures catcher defense at all and without knowing that, adjusting for offense was difficult.

I'd be OK with swapping in Berra/Rodriguez/Fisk for Carter.

Dickey and Cochrane are hardly slouches (I know that's NOT what your saying!) . Better OPS+ than Carter.  I think we tend to under-estimate the guys we never saw, unless they are in the Ruth  category.  And as you say...we have a tough time evaluating defensive ability.

RP is another easy one:

Eckersley
Rivera
Wilhelm
