So Jeter collected 1200 more hits in 5 seasons?   OK.

So you think Jeter had the same amount of hits as DiMaggio in the other 13 seasons? OK.
8/8/2014 1:42 PM

Well, my math may be off but I think DiMaggio had around 2200 in 13 seasons and Jeter had 3400 in 18 seasons.    Pretty sure that mean Jeter had more hits per season.   What sort of voodoo math are you using?

8/8/2014 1:48 PM
He did have more hits per season.  What are you arguing?
8/8/2014 1:49 PM
That he had 1200 more hits.  It really shouldn't be an argument.   The numbers are there for anyone to see.

It appears you're arguing that he didn't have 1200 more hits in 5 seasons.  240 hits a year.  Unless I picked up on sarcasm that wasn't here.  Otherwise I don't understand the point of this post.

I am not arguing that he had 1200 more hits than DiMaggio.

This is some legit "Who's on First" stuff.
8/8/2014 2:05 PM
Also, who gives a **** about raw hit totals?
8/8/2014 2:06 PM
Jeter is a compiler.

Well, Jeter played 18 seasons per you.   DiMaggio played 13 per everybody.

Jeter played 5 more seasons and accrued 1200 more hits as a Yankee.

Are you saying that has no value?

Top 5 Yankee?

Ruth, Gehrig, Mantle, Ford, DiMaggio, Gomez - I don't see how Jeter can break into the top 6.  I could see an argument for 7th, in competition with Berra and Dickey.

It 's funny. You could make the argument that Jeter ranks higher on the list of all shortstops than he does on the list of Yankees.
Oddly, BL seems to have it right here....

Jeter isn't even remotely close to the top 5 of Ruth, Gehrig, Mantle, DiMaggio, and Berra,  I'd put Rivera ahead of him, but not Gomez or Ford.

Most of this generation thinks of Yogi as a bumbling clown, spouting out goofy sayings that Joe Garagiola repeated on the Game of the Week until they became part of baseball history.  But if you check the record, he was in the top four of the MVP voting for SEVEN CONSECUTIVE YEARS.  Yeah, there was likely a Yankee bias, but even so, he was considered one of the four best players in the AL for a long long time.

Well, I'm kinda hanging my "After the top 3, you could argue any number of players to fill out the top ten" hat on offensive WAR and 1200 hits in 5 more seasons for DJ over JD.

That's why I asked the value of another half career.    Do you want Joe D for 13 and whoever for the next 7 or Jeter for 20?
"Whoever for the next 7" was Mantle, so there's that...
