Central
benhoidal: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Anfernee Hardaway, Bill Walton, Jason Terry, Kyle Korver, Jon Barry,
Al Horford
KAJ has so many showcase years to choose from and a spectacular career. A solid #4 pick.
'95-'96 Penny is one of the all time best in the WifS library. An awesome duo with great inside
and out balance. A scary team and with the 3rd pick of Walton it just gets worse. Bill is a very
expensive player and worth every penny. If only he had a year with 3000+ minutes Walton would
be a perennial 1st rd. pick. I had the pleasure of seeing him play pro ball a few times in person
and was always impressed how he could control the game. Heard he was a decent drummer as well.
I think he traded the rest of his picks for a bag of beans. A superstar trio and not much else.
KAJ - YES, Anfernee - YES, 28 minutes of Bill - YES. The rest won't be enough to get to the playoffs.
jkaye24: Lebron James, Oscar Robertson, Dikembe Mutombo, Terrell Brandon, Paul Silas, Troy Murphy,
Dominic McGuire
His '12-'13 catapulted Lebron to the top of the ODL heep. The most watched and most covered player
in a generation. PG, SG, SF, PF or why not try him at Center? It'll be fun to watch him play in Cleveland
and I'm happy for the long suffering Cavalier fans. Everybody knows Oscar by his first name. He was and
still is and always will be Cincinnati Basketball. Robertson's $10 M '62-'63 season is too expensive for the
ODL and his usage is way too high for a Lebron team. Perhaps the '69-'70 is a better option?
With the third round pick Mount Motombo is shouldered with the inside responsibility. He's a great defender
but his best defensive year isn't a great rebounding year. His great rebounding year comes with a lower
defensive rating. A conundrum. '95-'96 Terrell Brandon is always a great pick defense (81), low fls (2.7)
ast% (27.2) shoots some treys with a respectable efg% (50.5). Now it looks like James will move to the 3.
Which is where or so I've been told is not the right position to use him. I had Lebron one time many seasons
ago and I used him at PG and my team won about 30 games so I'm not a Lebron expert. I dig Silas and he'll
be a big help on the boards for Dikembe. Many great seasons to choose from all with solid defense (80s) and
tremendous creb. A bulldog on the offensive glass and you'll need them. The '09-'10 Murphy was once upon
a time an ODL staple. A post player who shoots treys with the best of them. Great Defensive rebounder (27.2%)
but he spends so much time beyond the arc he is no help on the offensive glass. With all those other high usage
players patrolling the perimiter he may get lost and he's a matador on defense. At least you'll be entertained with
McGuire's half time version of "Eve of Destruction". An entertaining team as well and I get to play you 8 times!
Good Luck & Good Health to you!
eleibowitz: David Robinson, Manu Ginobili, Wes Unseld, Derek Harper, Charlie Edge, Ricky Pierce, Eddie Griffin
I love DRob and would use him anytime I have a top 10 pick. His 13.5 TO% is amazing considering his high usage.
He protects the ball and this one stat in my mind separates him from the other elite top 5 big men. 2nd rd. pick Manu
is a special one of a kind player and that is why he's so valuable. Great backcourt rebounder, smart passer and will
drain the clutch trey. Unseld is just the ticket for this team. He covers Robinsons weakness in spades and is a great
post passer which is always a bonus. Eleibo doesn't need a hi asst% PG because this team already passes so well.
'89-'90 Harper will thrive on this team and he mixes well with Manu. Good usage% (22.0), shoots 3s and a great
efg% (52.7), solid passer and stout defender (80). Super sub Charlie Edge set the ABA world on fire in '73-'74 with
the hapless Tams. Superb defense (85), good efg% (50.0) and with a 33.2 creb he's flexible enough to play at the
3 or at the 4. Eleibowitz kind of went off the rails in the 6th round picking Ricky Pierce & Eddie Griffin. Both have
their strong points but can either compete in the ODL? Pierce is an outstanding shooter who loves to drive to the
basket and get fouled ('86-'87 440 FT @ 88.0%). Defense is subpar and he doesn't do much else. Griffin is a
shut down defender (87), good rebounder and should combo well with Edge at the 3. Eddie is a very poor shooter
by ODL standards and I'm not sure how much he'll help this team. In any case eleibowitz always bring a strong
teams to this league and the first 5 picks are championship caliber will the 6th round make him a failure or a
genius. This team still has a good shot at winning the division.
cjok1051: Larry Bird, Kobe Bryant, Serge Ibaka, Maurice Cheeks, Tree Rollins, Pau Gasol, Kenyon Martin
Nothing wrong with Larry Legend at #16. His '86-'87 is truly legendary stuff. The '86-'87 Celtic
team that year may be the best ever. Give Larry the ball. Cj's 2nd rd. pick makes my head spin.
Kobe is a fine 2nd rd. pick but I don't think he teams well with Bird. His usage is too high and
will detract from Birds game and neither player will flourish. Time will tell if this works.
In the 3rd rd. he's back on track with Ibaka an outstanding defensive SF and just what this
team needs. Will Serge push Bird to PF? Plenty of needs still to be addressed.
Cheeks is a top flite PG and you can pick him up in the middle of the draft. His best season is '85-'86
and gives cjok plenty of other options. All with great defense (80 - 90), low fls (2.7), low usage efficient scorer
and no doubt you can win with him in the backcourt. An excellent pairing with Kobe & Larry.
Rollins is a big time post defender (90 - 100 & 7.6 bl%) as his nick might imply. Happy to leave the scoring
to Bird & Bryant. Picked up Gasol to add some low post scoring and always a strong 6th rd. pick. His '09-'10
year is solid and he give you much needed post scoring (53.9 efg%) and solid boards (32.1 creb).
I have to admit I don't like the pick of Martin at all. He doesn't normally get drafted and shouldn't. Especially
with this club. His best SF season (a Bird sub) doesn't match his usage at all too low while Bird is very high.
And he doesn't work as a PF in this elite of a league. Besides his best PF just isn't anywhere near the quality
to be found on other teams. Other better options with lower minutes were available. Every team in this division
looks scary and I'm afraid this team will struggle to win more than it loses.
98average: Charles Barkley, Kevin McHale, Terry Porter, Emeka Okafor, Paul Pressey, Antonio Daniels,
JaVale McGee
Having never used Sir Charles in this league I'm not sure what to make of him. Many owners love him
and why not he's incredibly efficient. I think 98 brings an unorthodox approach to the draft. Sometimes
it works magnificently for him. McHale is a solid 2nd rd. pick but unorthodox if he plans on using him
at Center. Kevin will score on anyone down low and plays great defense. His rebounding is woeful
at the 5 compared to others in this league. Barkley will have to shoulder the rebounding load or is
Charles the SF and McHale the PF? Terry Porter is a great Point Guard with the 3rd rd. pick and
gives this team some much needed balance and plenty of 3s. Looks like Okafor will be playing the 5
and he's a nice fit there. Terrific '06-'07 with the Bobcats and helps Charles on the boards (37.3 creb),
decent usage% (53.2 efg%) and defense is adequate (71). Emaka - 5, Kevin - 4 & Charles - 3
be a terrifying trio. Pressey is a nice running mate with Porter. Doesn't shoot any treys but over the top
marks everywhere else especially the 93 defensive rating. Daniels is an ODL staple off he bench and
has some good seasons to choose from. Not a great defender usually but his contribution off the bench
is his strength. JaVale subs in and gives this team a shot in the arm on the boards. I like using him in
theme leagues and progs. Not a whole lotta minutes but good value in the ODL. Plenty of great pieces
and we'll see if they can gel together as a team. Could go deep into the playoffs and give 98 next seasons
bragging rights or Sir Charles might get an early start on his golf game.
seapilots: Tim Duncan, Gary Payton, Larry Nance, Clifford Ray, Kris Humphries, Baron Davis, Chris Mullin
I've finally discovered a winning formula for this league and will try to use it again for Season 49.
Start with a big man and Timmaaay was the best available. He scores down low, plays great defense
and can rebound but he needs help in that catagory. Next PG and The Glove is one of my favs both
in RL and WifS. Watched him play many times and never saw a better on the ball defender than him
in his prime. It was fun watching him mature into a HOF player. His 50.2 efg% is acceptable and the
520 3PAs help but his 44.8 fg% w/ 1666 FGA is too low here. I love Nance with the 3rd rd. pick!
55 efg%, 92 D rating and a great rebounder at SF. very efficient player and I was surprised with
how many Player of the Game awards he received last season with the Whiteskins.
These next 2 PFs make a great platoon and add up to exactly 48 MPG combined. Compare
'71-'72 Cliff Ray 4.3 M, rebounds (45.5 creb), efg% (51.1), usage% (14.2) & defense (61)
'10-'11 Kris Humphries 5.0 M, rebounds (41.7 creb), efg% (52.7), usage% (17.5) & defense (59)
PF totals 9.3 M, 48 MPG, rebounds (43.6 creb), efg% (51.9), usage% (15.8) & defense (60).
These two do the dirty work and are a must with a Center like Duncan who needs help on the boards.
Baron is just 5 MPG back up for Payton. High usage matching Gary and ast% (33.1).
Pretty much holds the spot while The Glove gets some water. The '92-'93 Mullin was a real key to
last years title team. Great shooter, low fouls (1.9), solid D (66). Adds another hi usage player to the mix.
It's very similiar to last seasons team with Duncan at C instead of The Admiral ( a slight down grade)
and Payton at PG in place of Curry. He's not as good of a shooter but superior defender and still
shoots 520 3PA enough to keep opponents honest ( slight upgrade to even). Another title? Probably not
but should challenge for the playoffs.
