Season Draft League Team Rosters & Commentary Topic

I should rebound well, but that's about all I know.

I always do way worse at theme leagues and single draft leagues than I do at progressives, so I expect to be around .500 per usual.

I started doing evals...but it just takes too damn long to do all 24 teams. Here's some Like/Dislike.

1.   slymonium - 66-67 Wilt Chamberlain, 12-13 Chris Paul, 11-12 Dwight Howard, 90-91 Charles Barkley, 08-09 Chauncey Billups, 09-10 Ryan Anderson, 95-96 Chris Webber

L - The 11-12 Dwight season was a great pick, very clean for Dwight too. Mix in 90-91 Barkley too and that's some devastating paint scoring at the 4/5 all game long.

D - Felt like you played it too safe with the backcourt. 07-08 CP3 was still out there in the 2nd and 07-08 Billups is better imo.

2.   copernicus - 67-68 Wilt Chamberlain, 90-91 Dennis Rodman, 95-96 Scottie Pippen, 89-90 Charles Barkley, 90-91 Terry Porter, 05-06 Earl Watson, 11-12 J.J. Hickson

L - 90-91 Rodman is a great pick that can set you up later to pick a great PF with weak d like Barkley.

D - Scottie Pippen? As a lead dog in this league? Hate it. You were all set up to take 87-88 Barkley and blew it.

3.   scudmissle - 12-13 Lebron James, 89-90 Karl Malone, 09-10 Jason Kidd, 91-92 Horace Grant, 99-00 Dikembe Mutombo, 08-09 Jameer Nelson, 88-89 Roy Tarpley

L - 09-10 Kidd and 12-13 LeBron may be the perfect backcourt. Very nice 3rd round pick.

D - 78/70/74 defense in the frontcourt is actually kinda weak in this league. I'd never ever diss a HoGrant pick, so I'm thinking you should have found a 90+ C that can defend the 4/5.

4.   jcred5 -  13-14  Lebron James, 76-77 K. Abdul Jabbar, 93-94 Dennis Rodman, 87-88 John Stockton, 96-97 Scottie Pippen, 97-98 Patrick Ewing, 94-95 Chris Mullin

L - Good job locking down 93-94 Rodman when you did. You needed his oreb% next to Kareem and he wasn't going to make it back to you. 87-88 Stockton was a steal when you picked him as well.

D - I know SF was tricky in this league, especially if it was your last spot to fill, but I'm not feeling the Pippen pick. Hurts you big time on the glass, and just isn't that great of a 3rd scoring option in this league.

5.   vancem -  88-89 Michael Jordan, 09-10 Dwight Howard, 02-03 Ben Wallace, 97-98 Charlie Ward, 91-92 Larry Nance, 03-04 Jamaal Tinsley, 11-12 Marcus Camby

L - Great owners usually have a plan and make smart picks to ensure the plan works. Vance went for a killer-D team around Jordan. He wisely waited on SF(tons of options there) and took Ward earlier then expected, knowing good defensive PGs were harder to find.

D - My Jordan is better than yours!

6.   dukeof408 -  71-72 K. Abdul Jabbar, 65-66 Jerry West, 75-76 Marvin Barnes, 79-80 Michael Ray Richardson,
73-74 Julius Erving, 10-11 Tony Allen, 04-05 Alonzo Mourning

L - Great first pick. Best paint scoring option on the board imo.

D - Not one of your other 4 starters would have been picked if you didn't take them.

7.   milest -  90-91 David Robinson, 11-12 Chris Paul, 03-04 Donyell Marshall, 81-82 Magic Johnson, 95-96 Dennis Rodman, 11-12 Kenneth Faried, 13-14 Manu Ginobili

L - I thought the Marshall pick might have been a reach at first, but I really like pairing him with Magic at the 2/3 and his overall fit on this team. Can't find his skill set anywhere else.

D - I love me some Admiral...but #7? This team looks so much better with 99-00 Shaq, 10-11 Dwight, or 70-71 Kareem.

8.   samuelyork-  61-62 Wilt Chamberlain, 06-07 Dwayne Wade, 79-80 George Gervin, 07-08 Jason Kidd, 56-57 Bill Russell, 80-81 Kevin McHale, 11-12 Brandan Wright

L - I like that you had the balls to try the 61-62 Wilt.

D - You really failed at building around Wilt. You might want to go ahead and read ashamael's thread on usg% sometime. It should help you avoid teams like this in the future.

9.   jt7king(1) - 91-92 Dennis Rodman, 93-94 Shaquille O'Neal, 13-14 Stephen Curry, 76-77 Bill Walton, 86-87 Derek Harper, 94-95 Clyde Drexler, 12-13 Andre Drummond

L - You managed the cap well enough to afford two of the very best backups in Drexler and Drummond. Oh, and the Curry/Shaq inside-out combo is frightening.

D - As awesome as he is offensively, 93-94 Shaq is the worst defensive center in the league(crazy but true).

10. jt7king(2) - 09-10 Lebron James, 74-75 Artis Gilmore, 01-02 Ben Wallace, 12-13 Serge Ibaka, 11-12 Manu Ginobili, 04-05 Jason Terry, 13-14 Al Horford

L - I didn't mind the 11-12 Ginobili pick at all. No chance he makes it back to you in the 6th.

D - 74-75 Gilmore was one of the worst picks imo. 09-10 Dwight was still on the board, he only guards Cs(which hurts big bens value a lot), and you could have got him in the 6th round.

11. sixernuggets(1) - 68-69 Wilt Chamberlain, 77-78 Julius Erving, 92-93 Karl Malone, 95-96 John Stockton, 88-89 A.C. Green, 89-90 Mark Aguirre, 97-98 Greg Anthony

L - 92-93 Malone was kind of a steal. Thought he would have went sooner.

D - Were you drunk when you made the 77-78 Dr. J pick? Don't get that one at all.

12.
longtallbrad - 10-11 Dwight Howard, 94-95 John Stockton, 13-14 DeAndre Jordan, 07-08 Manu Ginobili, 73-74 Charlie Edge, 06-07 Dikembe Mutombo, 07-08 J.R.Smith

L - Uh-oh...ltb and 10-11 Dwight is a scary combo. Even scarier when he gets the best Stockton too.

D - Manu will have to battle the LeBrons and MJs of the league

13. dh555 - 89-90 Michael Jordan,08-09 Dwight Howard, 08-09 Jason Kidd, 75-76 Bobby Jones, 72-73 Artis Gilmore, 11-12 Ben Wallace, 12-13 Jose Calderon

L - 72-73 Gilmore in the 5th? Like stealing candy from babies fellas

D - That's a lot of tos/fls to deal with

14. dh555 - 65-66 Wilt Chamberlain, 92-93 Dennis Rodman, 07-08 Chris Paul, 87-88 Larry Bird, 98-99 Dennis Rodman, 12-13 Danny Green, 13-14 Danny Green

L - Don't know if it will amount to much, but after the Wilt pick I got every single player I targeted(how the hell did i get 07-08 cp3?). That never happens, it felt great haha.

D - My paint scorer at 54% is weaker then the other 55-60% paint scorers in this league

15. sixersnuggets(2) - 71-72 Wilt Chamberlain, 11-12 Kevin Durant,
74-75 Moses Malone, 89-90 John Stockton, 77-78 Marques Johnson, 87-88 Kiki Vandeweghe, 03-04 Charlie Ward

L - You bastard! I was so close to 03-04 Ward, probably the best defensive backup pg.

D - I think you could have got 71-72 Wilt in the 6th. Ouch

16. ysw128 - 00-01 Shaquille O'Neal, 95-96 Penny Hardaway, 07-08 Deron Williams, 77-78 Bill Walton, 79-80 Kermit Washington, 10-11 Dwyane Wade, 85-86 Wes Matthews

L - Good spot to take Shaq. I like 99-00 better but this one is dominant too.

D - Are you Wes Matthews?

17. robusk - 99-00 Shaquille O'Neal, 07-08 Dwight Howard, 06-07 Shawn Marion, 10-11 Jason Kidd, 07-08 Shawn Marion, 05-06 Gerald Wallace, 11-12 Jason Kidd

L - FT% be damned! Shaq/Dwight will win you more games shooting 60% on game winners down the stretch than lose you games going 1/2 from the line.

D - 10-11 Kidd should have been a Stockton.

18. eleibowitz - 70-71 K. Abdul Jabba
r, 08-09 Chris Paul, 07-08 Marcus Camby, 13-14 Kawhi Leonard, 01-02 Brent Barry, 87-88 Dennis Rodman, 11-12 Stephen Curry

L - So fresh and so clean. Figured you might keep it that way at sg after the Kawhi pick too. You really made me sweat out my double Danny Green combo. I actually had Barry/WPerson/BRush in mind as backups in case you did take them. Bet you were looking at those guys too.

D - Not sure how the rest of the bench looks, but I think you might end up with a rebound disadvantage.

19. jkaye - 78-79 Moses Malone, 12-13 Kevin Durant, 05-06 Chauncey Billups, 88-89 Dennis Rodman, 05-06 Kevin Garnett, 79-80 Paul Silas, 96-97 Eric Piatkowski

L - I dunno, maybe this should be a dislike...but I like that you swung for the fences with KG. I'm sure it hurt your salary and it definitely cramped your usg, but other than the usg, it's a pretty awesome fit. You weren't gonna beat teams with fg% anyway.

D - ehhh..lets throw him in here anyway. I mean if Paul Silas is gonna have to be the 6th man maybe you shouldn't have spent 10 mil on KG.

20. benhoidal - 11-12 Lebron James, 96-97 Karl Malone, 64-65 Wilt Chamberlain, 83-84 Magic Johnson, 00-01 John Stockton, 97-98 John Stockton, 86-87 John Stockton

L - Super ast% squad! And why not? A lot easier to do in this format. 96-97 Malone just sitting there in the 2nd. This could be scary.

D - But why 64-65 Wilt? 72-73 would have been a lot cooler. You could have got him over 80%

21. 98average - 10-11 Lebron James, 79-80 K. Abdul Jabbar, 96-97 John Stockton, 11-12 Tyson Chandler, 82-83 Larry Nance, 06-07 Brent Barry, 10-11 Ryan Anderson

L - That 98 will once again lose a draft league. You suck 98. I can't state that enough. But it will be fun getting to beat you with 2 teams this time.

D - If the simgods curse me for hating on 98 by letting his team beat mine

22. rjk2781- 92-93 Hakeem Olajuwon, 87-88 Michael Jordan, 75-76 Julius Erving, 80-81 Magic Johnson, 13-14 Anthony Davis, 00-01 Dikembe Mutombo, 73-74 Jerry West

L - This is probably the toughest defensive team. Very scary.

D - This is also one of the worst offensive teams. All mid-range and very low ast%

23. uptowngbv - 90-91 Michael Jordan, 13-14 Kevin Durant, 97-98 Dennis Rodman, 05-06 Dwight Howard, 88-89 John Stockton, 06-07 Andre Miller, 09-10 DeAndre Jordan

L - He may not have the efg% of 94-95, but 88-89 Stockton is a total badass. He's gonna lead the league in assists and probably steals too. Huge steal in the 5th.

D - 05-06 Dwight is a nice pick. But nice guys finish around .500 in this league. Thought you could have done a lil better there.

24. jhsukow - 08-09 Lebron James, 86-87 Larry Bird, 94-95 Dennis Rodman, 89-90 Dennis Rodman, 80-81 Artis Gilmore, 92-93 Mookie Blaylock, 13-14 Joe Johnson

L - LeBron/Larry is a beautiful combo and you nailed the Rodman picks at the perfect time.

D - You must have been drinking with sixers when you made that Joe Johnson pick.

the order was tough to figure out(damn straight i picked my teams 1st haha) but i feel pretty good about my picks of which teams will make the playoff

the pacific is the weakest divison imo and the midwest is the strongest...i thought the atlantic was pretty top-heavy with sly, ben, and myself..id be shocked if one of us don't win the division

The first time I play dukeof408 Jerry West is going to drop 25 free throws.
1/15/2015 11:11 PM
I dont even want to live in an America where '73-´74 Julius Erving wouldnt be picked;-)
1/15/2015 11:25 PM
I agree- I probably should have taken a Kareem instead of Robinson.. Once I did, I came up with a plan, and Marshall was a necessity for that plan. He is the only player who does what he does. The only one.

I will rebound well, which is key, but I will foul too much, and most likely commit too many turnovers.. And, my efg will probably be too low... So, yeah...

This was my first draft.

1/16/2015 1:21 AM
I agree with you duke but in this these leagues its all about the stats and the numbers and not the RL talent levels. EFG% is king. Basically too much usage means that you are paying for points, for all of the high powered offensive players, that will never be scored. Your team won't be able to get enough shots in a game for the player stats to be up to the RL numbers. Plus, this league has extreme defense on every team which reduces the offensive stats that much more. The high usages of Marvin Barnes and MR Richardson combined with their low EFG%s will kill the team.
1/16/2015 1:30 AM
Robinson's 55 efg% looks low compared to Shaq & Kareem, but his FT% and attempts make up for it. If you calculate TS%, The 3 of them (and certain years of both Malones) are very similar. I actually did it one night, and Admiral's TS% is higher than Kareem's TS% in one of the seasons that Kareem has a 58 efg%... Moses' 54 efg% season also has a very high TS% bc of his excellent FT% and attempts... Plus I am hoping the 100 Def  rating means something... We'll see. I think I have a decent shot at making the playoffs.

1/16/2015 11:11 AM
I would have loved a Stockton instead of a Kidd but $ and minutes were becoming a real concern.

After much thought I have changed my roster. I am fairly certain all of you are much more experienced at this than me and can you tell me what I did right and what I did wrong with this roster? I would much appreciate it.
