If 83 percent of the time is sometimes, sure. 8-0 in 100 win seasons. I think there's something there. Say what you want, but a strikeout is just not another out. It may have no correlation to runs scored, but it definitely has a correlation to wins, at least in the last 12 years.
Do you see why the runs/wins separation makes no sense?

Lots of things go into wins that aren't at all impacted by strikeouts. For strikeout totals to impact wins, runs scored would also have to be impacted.

I'm not convinced. I think teams that strike out a lot do so in all situations and vice versa. Runs would be impacted if K's mattered more than other outs.

Awful lot of coincidence over the last 12 years.
The pretty much sums up any discussion with BL.

You post something that proves what you're saying is true.    He calls it a coincidence, insignificant difference or small sample size.

Block the troll, let him die.

Are teams worse because their players strike-out more, or do their players strike-out more because their teams are worse?

Today's players are, for the most part, selfish and stat-obsessed. If they hit in the late innings of a blow-out game, what are most of them trying to do? What's the most common result of that? If they play for a team that's eliminated by July, what do they spend the rest of the season trying to do? Again, what is the most common result?

Might not account for the entire difference, but it surely accounts for some of it.

Trout isn't trying to trade strikeouts for groundouts.
Of course he isn't.   He'd like to get more hits or, barring that, draw more walks.    But you know what doesn't happen when you swing and miss?   Hits or walks.

Pretty sure we've been thru this before.
"Of course he isn't." I guess we're done here. Trout is trying to make less outs.
Or, perhaps, put more balls in play.   You know, by not striking out.

I think we're done now.
Yup, balls in play are better than not putting a ball in play.

Well, a walk is not a ball in play.    And that's better than an out on a ball in play 99% of the time.

Well, a walk is better than an out 100% of the time but, regardless, that isn't relevant to this discussion because a walk isn't an out.

If there's a correlation between wins and striking out less, but not runs and striking out less, that would be odd. You'd think you'd find a lot of overachieving teams in terms of expected winning percentage based on run differential, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

I'm sorry, I'll rephrase. A ball in play is better than striking out.

There probably isn't a correlation. Taint posted some averages of the top ten and bottom ten. Sometimes the teams that struck out less averaged more wins. Sometimes they didn't. But it really didn't tell us much.

Well, a double play is a ball in play.   That's not better than striking out.

OK, so he shouldn't care about the Ks, then. Since you think a ball in play isn't better than striking out.
