Week 6 News Flashes:

Newark Star Gazette

This one was a story of two halves. The Blue Hens got out to a fast start and had Northeastern on the ropes after two quarters leading 24-7. If you had asked us then we would've told you that the Huskies had finally run out of gas. Good thing you didn't inquire as the Huskies came out of locker room and started playing Northeastern football. Delaware fans had to be getting nervous watching the lead slowly slip away. After a Cory Frank 32 yard touchdown pass to Phillip Gregory the Huskies had fought back and trailed only 31-34 with seven minutes to go. Coach Brenner brought his offense over for a pep talk and fired them up. They executed for the ole ball coach, crafting a impressive drive to retake the lead and win the game 41-31. Delaware proved their loss last week should not be expected again and shot back up the rankings to #23. Northeastern drops to #30. Next up for Delaware the Maine Black Bears come to Newark, while Northeastern heads down to Harrisonburg to take on James Madison.

Amherst Herald

I mean the game was played in Durham...that is about as close as New Hampshire came to winning this game. Massachusetts looked impressive beating the Wildcats 41-3. Edwin Lee looks to have found his way again these last few weeks. The star of the team throwing for 325 yards and three touchdowns. Shockingly the defense may have been the more complete unit this game for the Minutemen. They hold New Hampshire to 258 yards and also grab two interceptions on the day. Umass will need the defense to continue to play this way and help out the offense against the tougher teams. The Richmond Spiders come into Amherst for a match-up this week. Both teams will be looking to get to 2-0 in conference play. If Richmond pulls that off  we would have the biggest upset of the season in D-1AA. Don't expect it to happen if Edwin Lee hits the field for the Minutemen.

Nova Daily News

How to construct a win by Coach Kas, featuring Kevin Harris. What a game this was to watch. If you have not seen the Wiscast I suggest you watch it...for real like go watch it what the hell are you waiting on? Multiple lead changes, runningbacks, quarterbacks, and defense it had it all. The Wildcats probably feel they should've taken this game a lot easier then the scoreboard shows. They rack up 501 yards of offense in root to a thrilling 31-24 victory over the Hofstra Pride. If the score wasn't enough to make you want to watch, how about a 29 yard touchdown strike to take the lead with under four minutes to play. Even more action is a drive down to the Nova 15 for Hofstra with a chance to win. This game was just a great battle. Nova welcomes New Hampshire to Villanoa for a conference duel.

Week 9 News Flashes:

Newark Star Gazette

Next stop Amherst! Coach Brenner did not waste any time in this game. Going into next weeks contest with Massachusetts the Blue Hens used this game to continue to dial in the right playbook. Folks, Rhode Island has one of the weakest defensive lines in the conference. No better time then to run it down an opponents throat right? Larry Chapman was outstanding in this game. He just became a man child after the performance he gave against the Rams defense. Chapman ran for 273 yards and three touchdowns!! Even better the freak of nature averaged 13 yards per carry. You can't stop that, and Delaware fans will be hoping that is the type of game their star has next week against Massachusetts.

Amherst Herald

The Dukes were having a season that could've seen  them in the playoffs. They needed to win four of their last five games to get there. Make that four straight games after today's whipping. Mr. Lee is simply ridiculous and showed his worth in front of his home fans today. Edwin throws for 418 yards and three touchdowns. I guess he heard what happened in Newark and was not about to be out shined. Umass looks like they've found their groove and are playing solid football right now. Losing early may have helped this team improve. Recently they've rolled through the regular season with out really being tested. That will not be the case for this year's Minutemen. This game today was about completely playing together and they did in route to a 48-10 win over James Madison. Next up the game the conference has been waiting for, the match-up with Delaware.

Boston University Press

Finally players are starting to step up for the boys in red and black. The season has been a struggle and a fight in just about every game. After seeming to put it all together last week against William & Mary in the second half, the Huskies came out with the same momentum today. At the midway point the crew from Boston were up 28-3 and would cruise to a 48-16 victory over New Hampshire. Maybe the board will see fit to upgrade Parsons Field if the season continues to be a success.  Coach Collins was quoted as saying "I've seen better stadiums at high schools in the city, but it is our dump and we'll continue to protect it. Junior rock carrier Donald Oliver rushed for 133 yards and two touchdowns. The Huskies seem to be slowly finding their form again after a rough patch. They will look to protect the dump this week against Florida Atlantic. Atlantic knocked them out of the division race season, Northeastern fans want blood in this one.

Nova Daily News

Oh Nova you are slowly stealing the hearts at the daily news. Kevin Harris and the traveling little engine that could band sit at 6-3 on the season. That is an impressive six wins better then last year with four games to go. How they got win number six was equally as shocking. For the second time this season Villanova has jack slapped another team. This time around it was the tribe from William & Mary. Nova saw what happened in the Tribe's last game with Northeastern and come out determined not to be tied at the half with. Whatever the pep talk from Coach Kas was, it worked beautifully. Senior quarterback Kevin Harris throws for 321 yards and a pair of touchdown passes. Nova easily knocks off William & Mary 50-17. Next up as is a date with the Dukes of James Madison, keep your eye on this one folks it could get interesting.

Week 10 Preview:

#23 Delaware at #24 Massachusetts

Finally the Match up all Delaware fans were waiting for. Feels like we have said that before this season! This game should be absolutely amazing to watch and I wish it could actually happen in reality. Lucky enough we have WIS to take care of this little nugget of a game for us. Both teams come into the game playing pretty good football. Delaware got a tough game against Northeastern that they were able to pull out, a game that should help them here. However, the Huskies are not nearly as talented as this Massachusetts team that plays at Alumni Stadium. Massachusetts only loss on the year is to Drake in a game that had us scratching our heads. With many chances to take the lead and close out the Bulldogs the Minutemen were not able to do it. Each team needs this win to improve their playoff resume and get a chance at a higher seed. Massachusetts will air it out and let Edwin Lee attempt to clip the wings of the Blue Hens. Delaware will try to run it right at the Umass defense. Which style will win? Depends on which fan base you ask!!

Heart says Massachusetts head says Delaware. I'll take the Blue Hens by a field goal.

#25 Northeastern vs. Florida Atlantic

Husky fans remember what happened last season. With a chance to get to the conference title and get blown out by Massachusetts, the Owls were able to keep their beloved Northeastern in check. While the game is not happening as the last contest in the regular season this year, it should still be a solid match-up. Florida Atlantic has a strong starting defensive line that may give Northeastern trouble. Sometimes their young offensive line is slow to pick up defenders. Robert Martin knows how it feels to be scrambling around while also trying to make the perfect throw. We will see if that problem has been corrected in this game. Atlantic comes in 1-8 and wondering what they need to do in order to be more competitive. They may need some bounces to go their way to have a chance to win this week. The Huskies have really made a move to control the division. With the quality of defensive starter for Atlantic is shocking to us how many points they give up. Will the real Owl d-line please stand up?

Northeastern continues the streak, beats Florida Atlantic by 14.

Villanova at. James Madison

We love Villanova and what Coach Kas has done with that team. Talent on the roster does not equal 6-3 and a shot to make playoffs to us. Somehow he has worked his magic and got the Wildcats to at least assure a winning season in these next few weeks. James Madison could present some problems because of the talent advantage they have. We know the Dukes coach themselves, but that roster is still pretty loaded from some solid recruiting classes. After starting out 4-2 the Dukes have fallen off a little losing two of three. It should be noted in between the losses to Northeastern and Massachusetts is a strong beat down of Maine. Basically you never know which James Madison team is going to show up. We do know which Villanova team will take the field. The Dukes will need to be aggressive and on top of their game every play. Loose concentration and this one is over quick.

Nova proves to be Legit, Beat James Madison by 5

Week 10 News Flashes:

Amherst Herald

One fish, two fish, red fish, blue hen? In what was built up as the game of the year in the Atlantic 10 turned into a defensive battle, and not in a good way. The game was an unimpressive 3-0 lead for the Minutemen at the half. Delaware would not put up much more fight in the second half. Larry Chapman and the Blue Hens could not get it going in this game. Massachusetts held the star back to a dismal 63 yard performance on the ground and two catches for TWO yards. These Minutemen may have just turned the corner in this game. Coach Buck had to be happy with the showing by Edwin Lee. Delaware was applying pressure but the quarterback kept his cool and made some key conversions for his team. At the final buzzer the University of Massachusetts had notched a 16-3 win over the Blue Hens. Massachusetts now controls their bid into the conference championship game.Next up for Umass is an improved Villanova team on the road, Delaware welcomes William and Mary to Newark.

Boston University Press

Payback is a Biatch!! Northeastern and its fans wanted this game more then any other this season. Last year Florida Atlantic was the team that ended the season for the Huskies. We can call it even terms now after today's result. Northeastern but a beat down on the Owls 47-10 at Parsons Field. Star junior quarterback Robert Martin has started to look like Husky legend Bobby Rodriguez in the last few games. Martin throws for 388 yards and three touchdowns to help beat Florida Atlantic. When halftime rolled around this game was still pretty tight, Northeastern only had a 17-7 lead with a few missed chances to extend it. Coach Collins was quoted as saying "the goal is to get to forty every game, we got a lot of work left to do." The locker room message made its mark as the other boys in red from the Atlantic Ten won the second half 30-3. Northeastern faces Richmond into Parsons field looking to keep the momentum going.

Nova Daily News

What a game! What a game! What a game! Nova should not look down after a heartbreaking loss today in Harrisonburg. James Madison has proven this season they should not be taken lightly and can be a real force. Nova fell victim to the scrappy Dukes down at Bridgeforth Stadium. After a 7-7 tie at the half it looked like we had another snore fest on our hands. Boy were we wrong about that! Fans would see this game go to four overtimes before the Dukes won it on a sweet two point conversion catch by Jeffrey Thomas. Nova came oh so close to taking this game. Talented depth may have played a part in not being able to close the game. James Kimball playing for his third coach would not let his team die completing a 43 yard strike with thirteen seconds left in the game for the Dukes. Kimball then handed it off to Smallwood and watched the crafty back pick up the two point conversion and tie the game. Four overtimes later the Dukes prevail in this one 47-45. Nova plays the game of the season in Villanova, Pa next week against Massachusetts. The wildcats need this win to keep hopes of playoffs alive.

Week 11 Preview:

Delaware vs. William & Mary

Disappointment has to still be on the minds of the Blue Hens. This game does not allow for you to feel sorry for yourself. Delaware better get over the last one quick as a William & Mary will be looking to capitalize on any chances they get. Expect Larry Chapman to get back to bruising ways against The Tribe.  Delaware may have to change up its attack a little as slow starts have become to common. The impressive thing is how the Blue Hens normally dominate the second half of games. Playoffs are right around the corner and with the loss the #20 Massachusetts last week Delaware now sets at #28. That ranking likely puts them at a #8 seed in the playoffs. Coach Brenner can not be happy with the outlook at potentially meeting a top seed in the first round. Delaware should be able to completely smoke these guys and improve their ranking.

Delaware battles back from defeat last week, crush The Tribe by 21

#25 Northeastern vs. Richmond

Northeastern is off to pretty good start to the season. Now the question is can they finish? We get to find out more on that aspect this week as the Huskies gear up for a game with the Richmond Spiders. Richmond has not looked great this season at all. Northeastern has played every team pretty tough so far this year. A quick glance at the spiders schedule shows that if you have more then three wins you will beat Richmond. Expect for Northeastern to get out to a quick start. Robert Martin has lead his team to a 7-3 record so far but even he can admit that some tweaks need to happen. Now is the time teams tighten the screws on what works and what doesn't work heading into the final few games of the year. Northeastern will look to get a victory and avoid the upset to the spiders.

Northeastern gets the fast start they are looking for, beats Richmond by 21

Villanova vs. #20 Massachusetts

Heartbreak was the flavor of the week for Nova the last time out. Every fan base loves an Instant classic of course, well that is if their team is the winner. The Wildcats fell to a strong James Madison team last week and this weeks opponent is even tougher. Coming to Villanova Stadium are the Minutemen from Amherst. Massachusetts is riding a high after knocking off Delaware last week in Newark. Coach Buck better make sure his team is ready to go and not praising themselves after the win. Villanova is a lot better then their talent may lead you to believe. We don't call Coach Kas the Magician for no reason fool! Even being the master of tricks himself this maybe a little tough for the Wildcats to get through. Edwin Lee is looking like the star of the conference and its going to be hard to knock him off. The Wildcat secondary better be ready to make the play or this one could be ugly.

Nova battles but Minutemen are just to powerful, Umass wins by 10.

The funny thing is Tampa that one of the toughest Nova losses I remember in real life ended much the same way of that JMU game.  It broke My heart that day.

Week 11 News Flashes:

Newark Star Gazette

Exhale Blue Hen fans fore thou believes in Larry Chapman. Someone must have poked the bear this week in practice. Chapman is making a push to regain control of  Atlantic 10 offensive player of the year. His performance against The Tribe will have Delaware fans talking for years to come. William and Mary had no answer in this game. They looked lost chasing Chapman around the field and not catching him at all. The back would rush for 252 yards and three touchdowns. Not enough to make you drop your jaw yet? How about an average of 13.3 yards per carry. Chapman basically put the Blue Hens on his back and carried them to the win, running over any Tribe defensive player that stood in this way. Delaware gets the impressive win 44-6. Delaware gets James Madison at Delaware Stadium this week. The Blue Hens have the hardest schedule left in the conference, they will need to stay focused to ensure a playoff spot.

Boston University Press

Remember media, don't praise a team until the season is over! Last week fans in Boston were feeling good about their Huskies. Taking on a Florida Atlantic team that knocked them off last year they found a way to win. This week was completely different. Northeastern looked lost on defense in the first half of this game. A casual fan would've thought Richmond had one of the best offenses in the nation. We all know that is far from the truth about the Spiders offense. Halftime saw the score at 27-24 in favor of the Huskies. With the thought of playoffs seemingly over with a lost here the Huskies responded in the second half. These guys must've had some of Honey Boo Boo's go go juice. Northeastern smacks Richmond in the second half sixteen to nothing. Yardage wise the game was rather unimpressive for Robert Martin and company. Coach could care less and will take the 43-24 win. Next up  Northeastern heads to Orono for a game with the Black Bears of Maine.

Nova Daily News

Villanova came into this game needing a win. Last week brought a thriller rivaling the one in Manila! Massachusetts stood in the way of making another run and hopefully getting to playoffs. Like every other game played against the Minutemen during conference play, the boys from Amherst were just to good. At the half Nova was holding their ground and had kept Umass to just thirteen points. Defensively the Wildcats had a great first half of football. Offensively it was a tough day at the office and that would continue into the second half. Wildcat quarterback Kevin Harris is normally stoic in stature leading this team on the pitch. We're not quite sure what happened, but Harris would throw six interceptions in today's game. Once it was all over Coach Buck navigated his Minutemen to a 37-0 victory at Villanova Stadium. Nova heads to Kingston to take on Rhode Island. Massachusetts hops on the bus for a decent ride down to Willamsburg to face William and Mary.

Week 12 Preview:

Delaware vs. James Madison

Delaware is trying to match what their foes to the north are doing. As with Massachusetts they are looking to round into form right now, no better time to do then week twelve. Last week saw Larry Chapman just go off on William and Mary. This week presents a much tougher challenge for the boys in light blue. James Madison comes to Newark for a game they are looking to take from the host Blue Hens. Besides a lost to Northwestern State the Dukes have been pretty tough to take down. Sitting with a 7-4 record, three of those losses come to teams ranked in the top twenty-five. To make a long story short Delaware better be pared for this one. James Madison has the talent to cause some problems and hang with the Blue Hens. Chapman had better get going like last week and help keep post-season dreams alive and knock James Madison out of contention.

Delaware fights off the Dukes, Chapman carries Blue Hens to a 8 point win.

#18 Massachusetts at. William & Mary

Edwin Lee is not going to have any trouble in this game. What every team in the conference feared might happen has happened. Massachusetts is now starting to really play the type of game we are used to seeing from them. William and May will try to do something to derail the monster this week. Williamsbug will need every resident to come out and support The Tribe for them to have chance. We don't see it happening unless Coach Buck decides to throw the ball game. With the post-season right round the corner Umass should completely dominate this game. Heck if everything goes well we could see the back ups in the second quarter! The Tribe play a decent game but the talent is just no their to expect anything but a loss in this game.

Massachusetts keeps the gas pedal down, win by 25.

#25 Northeastern at. Maine

Northeastern did not look very good last week and will need to play much better. How a team that can taste playoffs for the first time in years can play so flat is insane. Husky fans hope Coach Tampa has fixed the defensive breakdowns in the first half last week. Maine should not really have chance in this game but we have seen Northeastern put some bad games together this year. Don't expect that this week, Robert Martin leads the Huskies to victory and division title.

Huskies beat Maine by 18.

Villanova at Rhode Island

Villanova got beat down pretty bad last week. No shame in that as every one does when they step on the field with Massachusetts. This week they should be  a lot more competitive. We know that is not enough for Coach Kas. Nova should be the favorite to take this game if Kevin Harris can get his act together. It doesn't matter who you are playing six interceptions will equal a lost more times then not. Coach will get that fixed and help is quarterback regain his confidence in time for the game with Delaware next week.

Wildcats knock off Rams by 12.

Week 12 News Flashes:

Newark Star Gazette

Wait What? In what maybe the biggest upset in the Atlantic 10 this year, James Madison knocks off Delaware. Coming into the game everyone knew the Dukes had what it took to get the win. I don't think one person actually thought it would happen. Halftime saw the visitors from Harrisonburg up 6-3. Delaware has been slow to start in a lot of games this season and we all figured today was another instance. James Madison had a completely different outcome planned for this game. The Dukes defense was simply outstanding against the powerful running game of Delaware. Hard hitting and timely tackles lead to two fumble recoveries by James Madison. Larry Chapman was also held in check only accounting for 113 yards and no touchdowns. Madison gets the win 20-6 and positions itself for the playoffs. Next up for Delaware is a trip to Villanova, the Blue Hens will look to get back to its winning ways.

Amherst Herald

Dominate is the only way to describe the the beat down in this game. Massachusetts continues to impress the nation on this current winning streak. Edwin Lee of course stared in the game throwing for 272 yards and two touchdowns. William and Mary came up against another opponent that just could not be stopped. The Tribe did put up a good showing despite the score. One thing the guys from Williamsburg will need to improve on is the turnovers. Four takeaways by the Minutemen lead the way for a crushing win. Umass takes down William and Mary 47-7 and looks unstoppable. With this win Massachusetts has clinched its berth in the Atlantic Ten title game. Before they play for a ring these Minutemen take a trip to face Rhode Island for the regular season finale.

Boston University Press

Northeastern has been kind of rocky lately. The defense has given up some questionable yardage. Coach Tampa is still searching for answers and looking for a fix. In the meantime Husky fans will take a win over Maine to lock up the division. After another slow start to a game the men from Boston locked down and shut out the Black bears in the second half. Northeastern defeats the Maine Black Bears 33-17. Cory Frank and Robert Martin both account for two touchdown passes each. Rumblings are we may have a quarterback battle heading into the final game of the regular season. Coach wanting to find a spark to get the offense going at a high pace. Maine hung in this game but the Husky defense as just to strong in the end. Northeastern heads to Hofstra for the final regular season game this year.
