Finally someone said Mark Fidrych. I have one that I need someone's help to find out. I saw this one time in Bleacher Report that some West Coast team, I think the Giants or the Dodgers had this one first baseman bat .600 in spring training. Excited, the Giants immediately made him their starting 1st baseman where he went on to be a huge bust and disappoint. I'll be searching for it but I might need some help
Pretty sure you're thinking of Randy Elliott...  this article lists some nicknames and some stats.  I seem to remember him as the Phoenix Phenom or some equally lame nickname.

Thx, I couldn't find it. I was thinking John Bowker for some reason

Some of these examples (like Brady and Davey Johnson) really don't meet the criteria. They would still be well known without those career seasons.

Ron Cash. Was going to supplant his unrelated namesake, Norm Cash, as the Tiger's first baseman for the second half of the '70s. Ron debuted with the Tigers in 1973 and managed to hit .410 in 14 games. Then? Nothing. Guess he couldn't hit a curveball or something. Sadly he died young at age of 59. Ron is the uncle of the Rays manager, Kevin Cash

The topic came up recently. Couldn't think of anyone else besides Miguel Dilone.

"Up until 1979, Miguel Dilone batted .214/.270/.256 and had an OPS+ of 49 (51% worse than league average!)

It all came together in 1980 where he batted .341/.375/.432 with 30 doubles, 9 triples, and 61 stolen bases!

After that one season, he was never above league average again, batting .249/.305/.315 with an OPS+ of 75 from 1981-1985"

What no one mentionned Mitchell Page yet?

Quintessential one season wonder in 1977.
BA OBP SLG 2B 3B HR SB CS SB% BB
.307 .405 .521 28 8 21 42 5 89.4 78

Could hardly ask for better numbers from a rookie.
The guy batted for average, could take a walk, hit for power, had great speed and amazing SB%, showed good range in the OF and good arm with 11 assists.
Then faded to black...
And could forget his 1978 Topps rookie card?!

I've used that season a few times for various twist leagues always does well.

LOVED BUZZ CAPRA

HE SPOKE AT ONE OF OUR LITTLE LEAGUE DINNERS. THINK THE PREVIOUS YEAR WAS HARRY PARKER OR MAC SCARCE

WONDER IF THEY HAD AGENTS, THEY PROBABLY GOT 150 BUCKS AND STORE COUPONS FOR APPEARING
This post reminded me of what might have been the geekiest thing I ever did, and that's saying something.

Back in the 80s, I used to read the old Baseball Encyclopedia quite often (I also collect editions of it and have 5 of the 8) and once found a typo in it. For some reason Mac Scarce had a designation on one of his seasons that he had been a league leader in something, but the stat clearly wasn't the league best that year.

So I actually called into a local sports talk station to ask a pretty geeky guy in his own right if he could make sense of this. I think he suggested I write to Macmillan about it, but I stopped short of that.

But you'd better believe when the next edition came out, I checked to see if they'd fixed that typo. And they had. I know nothing else about Mac Scarce, but I might try to use him in the Sim once just in honor of this.

Another Red Soxer, Billy Rohr, debut game April 14, 1967, shut out the Yankees with a one hitter, after that, omg.

One interesting case in this discussion is Bill Buckner. Obviously not a one-hit wonder, Buckner was a good player with a solid career, but I guarantee the first exposure 95% of people who know about him have is with his error in the '86 WS. I find a lot of people are shocked when they find out he was actually a good player with a lengthy career.
