Nice stats.  Is the effect on your pitching staff what we'd hope and think it to be?

As far as how it affected my pitching: despite having a fairly average ML pitching staff, my OAV for the season was .232 compared to the next best OAV of .246.  So that was a significant difference that I would attribute to the defense.  My SLG allowed by my staff was .375, which was only .001 behind the world leader (Seattle, which played in a more defensive oriented ball park).

For my other team in the other test world, I went with a high power / don't care about anything else offense, and played in a hitters park (Hartford).

This team hit 450 home runs and OPS'd at .893 for the season, but only scored 1027 runs.

I wonder how much of that OAV greatness came from your catchers.  95+ PC is pretty high-end.
11/17/2015 3:56 PM
Probably not much.  I would think having a field full of defenders all with 80+ range is going to prevent a lot of balls from getting through the infield, and will be tracking down a lot of fly balls that would otherwise fall in for hits.
11/17/2015 7:06 PM
Agreed, that is obviously true, but PC is supposed to affect OAV as well, and 95 PC is way up there.

This season in one of my leagues I did a very heavy fielding and speed team in an extreme pitchers park.    I ended up with 327 stolen bases/100 caught stealing and on defense had 119 + plays and 2 - plays.  Both of the - plays were from pitchers too IIRC.  Going to make it even more extreme next year by getting rid of a few slow guys for some additional speed guys and trying to upgrade the defense even more.

A3morey, I love that strategy. My San Diego team has implamented a design like that and it's a lot of fun. My leadoff guy is a great OBP guy who stole 60 bases last year. It really causes havoc when every walk is virtually a double.

Yeah it's pretty fun.....i've never built a team like this before.  I only have one great OBP guy right now unfortunately but was still able to have two players with 70+ stolen bases each.  Getting guys who take more walks will be one of my main focuses in the offseason.

It's good too because a lot of owners ignore 'secondary stats' like batting eye, speed and base running. When you can get good, defensive free agents who walk lots for cheap, it means you can spend more money on starting pitching. Which I believe you can never have enough of.
