Yep, I checked out of curiosity thinking it had to be Bonds, and was surprised it wasn't.

By the way, contrarian, b-r.com has Bonds hitting 8 HR off Maddux, not 9. Have you got a different source for that stat?

b-r.com has Bonds at 9.

Jeff Bagwell came to mind for me but he was 3rd against Maddux with 7 HR.

Well, I must be looking at a different page on b-r then (don't click on this if you don't want to know the answer):

I used this:
http://www.baseball-reference.com/play-index/batter_vs_pitcher.cgi?pitcher=maddugr01

Shows Bonds with 9.

I check this page also:

Says 9 HR vs Maddux

Ah...I think I see the problem...it appears the batter-vs-pitcher pages include postseason totals. Bonds homered off Maddux 8 times in the regular season, and hit 1 off him in the 2002 NLDS

That search engine only goes back to 1930 so far, so we don't have Cobb or Ruth v. Walter Johnson, which is one I would want to know.

But from 1930 on Babe Ruth hit 9 home runs off of George Earnshaw, 7 off Rube Walberg, 6 off Lefty Stewart, and so on, 4 each off of Waite Hoyt and Lefty Grove. So even after 1930 the Babe could hit pretty good pitchers for the long ball.

Ted Williams hit 10 homers off of Bob Feller in 174 PA, batting .364 against Feller lifetime. Wow. 34 walks and 10 Ks. Ted Williams owned Bob Feller.

Billy Pierce on the other hand held Ted Williams to a .247 average in 122 PA and only 2 homers with 14 strike outs, the most of any pitcher against Williams tied for 14 with Mike Garcia.

Pierce has long been one of my favorite progressive league pitchers, have him on two teams currently. Now I know why.

Name the player who hit the most career regular season HR off Greg Maddux?
The correct answer is Luis Gonzalez. He hit 10 HR vs. Maddux, and no more than 5 off anyone else.

I'm the last pitcher to lose 20 games in consecutive seasons. After the second season I was traded to a contender, and helped my new team to a championship by winning a game in the World Series. Who am I?
6/8/2016 12:32 PM
I guess you could say that means you helped them to a championship... You did have a losing record on a WS-bound team. You didn't help all that much.

I was a stabilizing influence in the clubhouse. Ask anyone. Hell, ask me. I'm still alive!

Sounds like Roger Craig.
6/8/2016 1:27 PM
Correct, Roger Craig. For the 1962-63 Mets he went 10-24 and 5-22. Was traded prior to the 1964 season to the Cards, where he went 7-9 (but with an ERA of 3.25, better than the team average ERA). In the World Series vs. the Yankees he pitched 5 scoreless innings over 2 games, going 1-0.
