I watched Chicago hit 7 home runs against Toronto today -- and lose. All 7 HR were solo shots, and the final score was 10-8 for Toronto. (Toronto hit 1 HR, BTW). At one point, with 2 out in the second and leading 5-0, starting pitching R.A. Dickey gave up back-to-back-to-back HR. I really didn't think he'd last 5 innings, let alone get the W.

I Googled this and discovered the White Sox tied an MLB record for most HR hit in a losing effort. Detroit has twice hit 7 HR in a game and lost (in 1995 and 2004).

Name the most recent MLB player to lead his league (both leagues, actually) in home runs and triples in the same season?
9/29/2016 2:34 AM
Any chance it was Jim Ed Rice?
9/29/2016 3:06 AM
That didn't take long...

In 1978 Rice led both leagues in home runs (46) and triples (15), as well as plate appearances, at bats, hits, RBI, SLG, total bases, and he played more games than anyone else (163).

Reviving an old thread that is worth reviving, since I stumbled on a great piece of baseball "trivia" the other day:

What pitcher holds the record for most innings pitched in a single season in organized professional baseball at any level?

No takers?

Which pitcher holds the record for most innings pitched in a single season in organized professional baseball at any level?

I will provide the answer by this evening if no one gives it a try. But c'mon, this is a fun one.

Well, I know who it is in the WIS database, so I'll say John Clarkson. (I realize his 902 listed IP are prorated over a 162-game season and the actual total is much lower).

I'll go with Old Hoss radbourn??
3/6/2017 8:30 PM
Yeah, my guess too, ole hoss
3/6/2017 8:35 PM
Ole Hoss was second all-time.

Will White pitched 680 innings in 1879.

Radbourn pitched 678 in 1884.

The 20th Century-21st Century record belongs to Harry "Rube" Vickers of the Seattle Indians of the Pacific Coast League. In 1906 Vickers pitched 526 innings, struck out 408, and won 39 games, with 20 defeats.

The strikeouts and wins remain PCL records (the wins tie with Doc Newton of the Los Angeles team of the PCL in1904).

from page 27 of "Runs, Hits and an Era: the Pacific Coast League, 1903-58" by Paul Zingg and Mark Medeiros.

The most innings since 1900 in a Major League was 454 by Jack Chesbro in 1904 followed by 422 by Ed Walsh in 1907.

Will White pitched in 76 games for Cincinnati in the National League in 1879, He went 43-31 with a 1.99 ERA.

Ok what record does Nate Colbert have???
3/7/2017 6:39 PM
I think he tied the record for RBIs in one game
3/7/2017 6:53 PM
Nope, I was wrong...that was Mark Whiten...4hr, 12 rbi game 9/7/93
3/7/2017 6:56 PM
Nate Colbert drove in 111 Rbi's in 1972. The Padres only scored 488 runs that year, so he drove in 22.75 % of the teams runs a record.
