My draft strategy hasn't really changed. I have a few names in my head I want to draft that I think will be there for a few more rounds. Other than that, I'm just choosing best player available.

First of all; 'strategy'??? WTF is that...

For us, Nap was an easy 1st choice - Best 2B season in the sim

Bench - W/ all due respect to the Kelly lovers, or '35 Foxx, the Dilligafs LOVE Bench...Stops the running gm cold, and will hit a few dingers...

Klein - Just wanted at least one BIG bat in the lineup...Might be our last...

Only real surprise so far (to us), The Sandman at #50...Too early for a RP, and IMHO, there are better RP seasons avail...

Well, and maybe Mike Griffin...Nice player, but think he would still have been there a few rounds later...

OCICBW...

DBP
Agreed about Griffin and Rivera.

When I saw the proxy post, I could've swore he meant Mike Trout.  Thought it was a typo!

Duffy's Brave Beaneaters

Less than 5 and 1000' is a Deal

C -   '95 Jack Clements (13) - .394/.446/.616, 440 pa, ton of 2b's and hr norms well
1b -  '51 Raplh Kiner (11) - A- range, 42 hr, .300/.450/.625, can't complain here.
2b -  '84 Ryne Sandberg (9)- Good 2b's, 3b's, Sb's, some Hr's, and a great glove.....inf D is looking good
3b - '96 Ken Caminiti (7) - Big year, switch hitter, great in the field
ss -  '91 Cal Ripken (8) - His best year. Good fielding, solid 2b'2 and Hr guy.
of -  '94 Hugh Duffy (1) - player-mgr, ridiculous PA, avg, obp, 1b#, 2b#, hr#'s.   A bit of speed and range too.
of -  '29 Al Simmons (3) - never had a bad version of him.  Huge Avg, Pwr, and great corner OF.
of -  '11 Joe Jackson (6) - .401/.463/.603 #'s, couldnt let him fall any further
of -  '11 Jacoby Ellsbury (10) - wanted Griffey here....Starting CF, Shoeless goes to DH
c -   '23 Bubbles Hargrave - rh, good avg, 2b, 3b, a+ arm
utl - '87 Paul Molitor - 2b/3b/dh, great avg, 2b's, sb's.
inf - '91 Bret Barberie - plays everywhere. .353/.435/.515
c -   '99 Jason Kendall - .332/.428/.511, sb's, a+ arm
utl - '19 Possum Whitted.  Normalizes awesomely....389/.420/.550
of/1b - '00 Jim Edmonds - A+ def at 1b, of.  42 hr.
p - '88 Ed Seward (2)  - Good of 80+ starts, gives up very few hr's...should carry the staff
p - '86 Mike Scott (4) - The best modern era pitcher left.  40+ starts, doesnt walk a ton, doesnt give up hits.
p - '89 Bret Saberhagen (5) - Doesnt walk anyone.  Going with a Sp 1, SP2a/2b rotation.
p - '87 Tim Burke (12) - Never used him before. 87 is one of my favorite seasons for some reason.  Closer
p - '04 Tom Gordon (14) - Wanted to use '98 season of him, cuz he was awesome with BoSox.  Still might
p - '99 Keith Foulke (14) - Gives up some HR's, but that about all he does poorly
p - '91 Todd Frowirth (15) - Underhander.  Suppresses hits & hr's
p - '07 Jake Peavy (15) - toss up between him and 3 others.  Long A.  Normalizes better than the other 3
p - '07 Heath Bell - 93 ip, no hits, low hr's
p - '87 Doyle Alexander - 89ip, spot sp.  great hr+'s

Hey deuce, which Tris Speaker do you recommend? 1912 or 1916? I'm flip flopping between the two.

Since we are in the same division, you should try the 1911 or 1927 version......you know, just to see how it feels.....

Wow how can you lose with that decision, I'd say if you are going to need/want him to play CF definitely '12 but man the normalized stat line of his '16 season with the 29 1b, 8 2b, 1 3b, and 12 BB's is GOLDEN, with the .474 obp# the high AB's he can hit 1,2, or 3 in your lineup too, great pick!! Make sure you set the SB frequency to 0 or 1, bout the only thing he doesn't do right!! You've got a great foundation with your first 3 picks, GL the rest of the way

So redsfive selected Charlie Gehringer. I don't think I've ever seen him used in WIS. how does he perform?
1/27/2016 9:33 AM
He does well normally I have used him...great in a + (1b, 2b, 3b) park
1/27/2016 9:54 AM
Drafting 17th left me little in the way of huge offense options, so I went with pitching. Love the 400 inning Grover Cleveland Alexander, and never get to use him in most leagues. Decided on the way back to get an entire starting staff, took Russ Ford, giving me 730 innings of dead ballers. The real question was Arietta or Gehringer in the 3rd. Jake is an unknown WIS quantity, but his numbers are amazingly good for the modern era. Took him and hoped Gehringer would fall, which didn't happen. So I have 950 innings of starting staff with a .86 whip. Gonna need some gloves and bats to back that up though.

I would have guessed Silver King going 2nd or 3rd at the latest.......An SP that impacts the 81 games he pitches in, and the other games he helps by notusing the bullpen in his starts.  Seeing him 5th, and the 2nd SP picked just shocked me.   Just my opinion tho'
1/27/2016 2:31 PM
Tough call bottomlee, I see your point but the '08 Joss is the Juggernaut of pitching, he has no known weakness (lol) at least none that I know of and he can give you 54 starts at 7+ innings a start all at a much higher level than King can. So I think there valid arguments for both but I look at it this way, which one would I want on the mound game 7 of the WS?
1/28/2016 1:06 AM
Probably should've gone with King so I wouldn't have had so many hitters chosen right before my pick. I have no experience with him though
1/28/2016 2:43 PM
My guys keep getting picked but was happy to get Joey Belle. He always performs well!
1/28/2016 10:57 PM
all-in-all, I think this draft is moving fairly well.  We havent had anyone bail yet or miss a pick by more than a few hours.....well done gentlemen (and ladies?)

Team Name: MisDEALings
Home Park: Bennett Park

SP - 1917 Eddie Cicotte (2):
Going with a homerun park so keeping the ball down is a must; the last "elite" deadballer on my list at the time.
SP - 1904 Jack Chesbro (3): Tough to pass on the good hitting available at this point but his 488 innings of average or better pitching give me lots of options with the pitching staff.

2B - 1922 Rogers Hornsby (1):
Thrilled he fell to #6 overall. Still flip flopping on '22 vs. '24 but the dingers in '22 likely win out over the .500 OBP in '24.
3B - 1981 Mike Schmidt (4): Tailor made 3B for my ballpark. The ideal cleanup batter to protect Rajah.
SS - 1996 Alex Rodriguez (5): Bat wins over glove, which I may regret. Right handed infield hitting for days...
OF - 1923 Ken Williams (7): Finally a lefty! Missed McCovey by two picks but Ken will slot into the #2 hole.
DH - 1887 Pete Browning (6): Maybe the best pure leadoff hitter in the sim. More righties.
Sometimes Ken Williams gets passed over for more expensive OF's but he'll perform as good as any of them!
