Nah, they were old white guys. But they were undoubtedly lazy.

Point is, they're at a ballgame to do something baseball-related for their employer. Maybe their employer said "Evaluate Bob" and, when Bob was removed from the game, they left. But I'm pretty sure their employer didn't say "Don't evaluate Larry. We don't want anything from you but a Bob evaluation." So who's providing more value? Scout who only looks at Bob or the scout who takes it upon himself to stick around to see what Larry does? In a dying profession, wouldn't you want to provide more value?

Or they were told to see one player and move on. Not sure what time it was, but maybe Kentucky is close enough to another game that they were able to see someone else after.

How is watching some freshman who's currently not even good enough to get work on his college team providing value to your Major League club? What he can do now isn't even important, there's no way you or anybody else is drafting the guy for at least another 14 months.

Ever hear of Bryce Harper? Teams started watching him before puberty.

It's really odd that so many are saying "I know you're in a dying profession but do the absolute minimum when on the job."

No wonder the American workforce sucks.

As tec said earlier, is the club better served by the guy leaving in the 5th inning to go back to the hotel room and watch some porn?

The Bryce Harper of pitchers didn't throw 19 innings this year. He threw at least 90.

And the scouts were there to see Bryce Harper. He wasn't a surprise. I think you're confusing your own point.

My point is a resource that is being phased out isn't being utilized. Maybe it's the clubs' fault. If they tell a guy "Just clock the SP and head on home", that's on them. They've got a guy in the stands, use him.

As far as Bryce Harper, no one was drafting him for 5 years. If my math is correct, that's a lot longer than 14 months. Either way, Hjelle was just an example. He wasn't the only guy playing after the SP was pulled. Don't badluck me by focusing on the example.

This is no RSF. It may contain traces of R, but no S or F is involved as far as I can tell.

When you measure 1-50-75-100, you are not comparing it against the next guy, you are compring the pitcher against himself.

If pitch 1 is 96 and by pitch 75 he is only hitting 91, that's the info you need.

It's got enough R to qualify. A guy's sole job is to evaluate baseball players, in some form or another. You clowns are saying "He is there for only one player. When he's done, it's fine if he goes to his hotel for some drinks and porn. He put in a solid 63 minutes today."

Again, he's watching baseball. I know that there's at least one person responding who doesn't do that because a stat sheet tells him all he needs to know but watching baseball for a living isn't a bad gig. I'm sure it gets tedious but in-the-seat scouts are needed less and less. Make yourself useful even if not asked to do anything else.

Has anyone disputed this, genius?

How much time off do you think a scout takes before the next assignment? How many times do you think the next assignment is even in the same area code?

My guess he's busy as **** from Feb-Oct. I also guess that another hour at the ballpark would not have disrupted his plans for the next day. Especially if he's just covering college players(8 D1 games on Monday). I'm not even sure HS ball is still playing. So, unless he was off to scout a BL team, he had Monday off or, at the very least, it was a travel day.
