I've noticed through my first few games in GD that my team consistently gets penalized about 5x as much as my opponent. Is there a setting I can change or something I can work on with my team to cut down on my penalties?

You just need to wait for your formation IQs to improve. Make sure you are practicing the formations that you use in your playbooks.
