Free team in 1976 Diamond Legends League-filled !! Topic

Below are relevant paragraphs from the league rules:

Subsequent drafts will be in inverse order of finish except that for the first round only there will be a random weighted lottery among the 4 teams with the worst record (4 chances for the team with the worst record, 3 chance for 2nd worst etc.). The tiebreaker will be run differential (runs scored less runs allowed) with the team with the worst run differential drafting higher.

Salary Cap Violations (rule added 1/8/14)
1. If an owner discovers that a draft pick puts them in violation of the salary cap, they must immediately take steps to make a trade (not necessarily the player who put them over the salary cap but any player) or make other arrangements (added 9/11/15) which will put them under the salary cap as quickly as possible. They may trade a player for a player from another team, for a draft pick later in the draft or a player or players for players and/or current or future draft picks.

Add/Drop Round (rule added 9/12/15)
Starting at 11:00 AM EDT on the day following the conclusion of the annual draft, there will be an annual draft on a first come, first served basis. During the add/drop round, a player dropped by one owner may be added by another owner if desired.

Players drafted during the current year's annual draft MAY NOT be dropped during the add/drop round. This includes a player drafted and subsequently traded.

The 1976 Diamond Legends (Career) Progressive League needs one replacement owner-see the post below for details. This will be a free team to an owner who commits to at least 3 moe seasons.

In the Diamond Legends (or Career) WIS leagues, players use their average career statistics. In this specific league, that will mean using their average career statistics in a progressive from their first year of eligibility starting in 1961 (currently 1976) through their last year of WIS eligibility.
General Managers must be able to deal with a salary cap of $80 million. Owners must use the actual ballpark used by their franchise in 1976.

Annual drafts will be in inverse order of finish except that for the first round only there will be a random weighted lottery among the 4 teams with the worst record (4 chances for the team with the worst record, 3 chance for 2nd worst etc.). The tiebreaker will be run differential (runs scored less runs allowed) with the team with the worst run differential drafting higher.

Please note that one of the differences Diamond Leagues have is the $80 million salary cap. Review the salary cap violation rules note above and the last paragraph in the Rules as well.

I think that one of the strengths of the salary cap is that the league has been very balanced. 9 different owners have won championships in the 15 seasons completed and only one team has ever won more than 100 games. That team happened to be mine in season 1 due to a very good draft, but I went until season 8 before I won another title. Only once has a team won consecutive titles.

Please indicate interest below. Please be sure you are comfortable with and understand the salary cap rules, and also since this is a progressive I request that you not join unless you expect to be able to participate for at least 5 seasons.

Interested owners will be given immediate access to the league's private forum, although I think all the information you may need is posted above.

When you decide to take a team, please so indicate below.

Note that Bill Freehan and Rico Petrocelli retire after the 1976 season and will need to be replaced. The table above shows last season and seasons remaining for each player.
9/2/2016 1:52 PM
The Red Sox finished 4th (last) in their division In 1975 with a 71-91 record and are 4-15 to start 1976. If they continue to perform at that level, they would draft very high (probably 1st) in the 1977 draft.

The team will need rebuilding. They are solid in the OF, at 2B and 3B, have an ace starter in Frank Tanana and a good relief pitcher in Ron Reed, but the pitching staff needs to be upgraded and they will need a C and SS to replace Freehan and Petrocelli.

The current owner will transfer the team for free to a new owner. I require a commitment to play at least 3 more seasons (1977-1979)
9/2/2016 2:01 PM
While the team needs rebuilding, they should have a very high draft pick in the 1977 draft, Among the rookies available are 1B Eddie Murray and pitchers Ron Guidry and Jack Morris. The Red Sox should have an excellent chance of getting one of these 3 players.

Chance to build a winner in a very competitive league-try the Career format. With the $80 million salary cap it's an interesting challenge to manage !!

I'd like to give this a try.
