There's nothing nature defying about a 34 year old former college baseball player throwing 75. I'm not claiming to be a 15 year old throwing 89.
Once again, you're missing the key part. A 34 year old throwing 75 isn't an anomaly. A 34 year old throwing 75 without a warm up, or any kind of regular throwing routine (or without having thrown in 10 years, in dahs case) is highly suspect. I guarantee if an MLB pitcher who throws 90 didn't pick up a ball for a couple days, stepped onto a mound without stretching or tossing and tried to throw 80+, he'd do some major damage to his shoulder. And that's a guy who does it for a living.
I still play baseball every Sunday and lift during the week.

I've never hit 75 cold. But I have hit 73 and 74. Even if we assume the gun is fast by 2-3 mph, that's still 70+. I'm assuming warm I'd throw a few mph harder.

Not every Sunday. 26 times a year. On your first day after your 6 month layoff, do you come out, without warm up, and crank out 72 MPH? That seems reasonable considering your superhuman abilities.

And, FWIW, lifting isn't throwing. Throwing is throwing. Nothing replicates it. As jtpops mentioned earlier, it's a unique act. Since we no longer need to throw rocks to ward off dinosaurs, a lot of people go months, years, even decades, without throwing. Like dahs. Unlike dahs, they would rip their elbow or shoulder to shreds if they threw max on their first day.

Dude your the best..... you actually said "I didn't hit 75 cold..... but...... I did hit 74"

Well, my practices start in January and games run February through July, then playoffs. So if I'm throwing at a major league fastest pitcher booth, I'm at least in mid-season.

Not if you're BL or dahs. BL doesn't need to warm-up at all. But dahs is better than that. He doesn't even have to throw for 10 years to hit 70s.

And I don't think 75 is all that easy. I don't think the "average" person gets anywhere near it. I don't think people who don't throw regularly get anywhere near it. I think people who hop off the couch and start throwing max rip things that don't need to be ripped.

I read somewhere once that less than 1% of the adult American male population can bench their bodyweight. Personally, I think adding 50 lbs to your bench is much easier than adding 5 MPH to your fastball. So I doubt 1% of adult males can throw 75.
50 lbs might be easier than 5 mph. Or it might not.

It it depends on where you're starting from.

If you've been training for two weeks and bench 95, adding 50 is very, very easy. You can probably do it in a month.

Same if you throw 65 but haven't really trained. Adding 5 mph is easy.

If you've been training for 10 years and bench 445, adding 50 lbs might be impossible. If you throw 83 after playing baseball for years, throwing 88 might be impossible.

And again, you're old and fat and throw in the 60s. How much younger and stronger do I really need to be to throw in the 70s?
Mid 30s throwing 75 is reasonable with a baseball background. Throwing once a week ***** up the equation.

If I told you I ran a 5 minute mile but only ran once a week, would that sound reasonable?
I don't know what to tell you, dude. I'll take a picture next time.

Even though it has been years since I've played 2B (Little League), I will state with confidence that it is actually a slight advantage to be LH (at 2B). Why?

1. Double plays. Throw comes in, slightly less transfer time for LH. Not much of a difference in a vacuum, but baseball is a games of inches and seconds.

2. Grounders up the middle. With your glove on your right hand, you don't have to travel quite as far to reach it from the second baseman's position.

3. Bunts. The 2B must act as a 1B and the advantages of a LH 1B are well documented.

(Shortstop, OTOH, still is better when RH)

Well, yeah, 75 seems like a stretch.

Dude, you can just admit that you can't throw 75.... I pitched for like 15 years, sat 78-80 ish, and am only 28 and doubt I could throw 70 (or tear my arm) completely cold.... thats just ridiculous..... theres a reason players long toss (toss being the key word) for so long before games
I thought this too. It turns out that you lose endurance a lot faster than you lose velocity. I bet if you found a fair or minor league ballpark with a speed gun you'd surprise yourself. You very likely still top 70.
9/14/2016 2:44 PM
How much faith would you put in the accuracy of a speed gun at a fair, or even at a minor league ballpark?
9/14/2016 2:47 PM
It's probably fast by a few MPH.
9/14/2016 2:52 PM
Or not. We "probably" don't know.

Not so much. That's why I said the gun read 74 and I assume that means probably at least about 71.
9/14/2016 3:44 PM
Or maybe you have no clue.
9/14/2016 3:52 PM
Sure. If you want to believe that the speed gun saying 74 really has to mean 55 because that's what syncs with your worldview, go for it. I can't prove that it's not true. Don't really care. I would have guessed mid-60s going in, so if you told me the thing was juiced by 10 MPH, I wouldn't call you a liar.
