Flat/Sale tax instead of Income tax Topic

Since Trump doesn't pay any Federal income tax now, would one of the haters of a new tax plan like to explain how it would shift the tax burden from rich to poor? Because, if Trump paid a $100 now, he'd be paying more.

Because most rich people pay a lot more in taxes than poor people.

If you're advocating for a system that reduces the amount rich people pay, then you're advocating for a system that increases the amount poor people pay.

Wrong. It could be you're advocating for a system where they both pay the same.

Um everyone doesn't pay the same now. Having everyone pay the same means increasing taxes on the poor.

What's Trump paying?

No idea. He won't release his returns.

Let's assume he's paying zero, as Queen Hillary is asserting.

Would he be paying more or less than he currently is under the flat/sales tax scenario that Mike is proposing?

Plus, are you that confused by math that you don't understand that x% of a large amount of money is more than x% of a smaller amount of money?

Under a flat tax he'd probably still pay zero. Flat tax just changes the rate, it doesn't eliminate deductions for building depreciation.

We collect X in total taxes. We get Y from incomes above $400k and Z from incomes under $400k. If we reduce the amount we collect under Y, we have to increase the amount from Z to still get X.

Why would having everybody, rich or poor, pay the same rate be a bad thing?

Because it doesn't make sense, pragmatically. We need to collect a certain amount of money to function. A single rate low enough to not be disastrous for the poor leaves us way short.

Wrong again ding-dong. Having everyone pay the same doesn't automatically mean poor people pay more, might mean the rich pay less so they pay at the same rate as the poor. Thus everyone pays the same. Sorry if you can't comprehend that since you can only see one side of anything.

We don't need to collect a certain amount of money from taxes to function. Obama has proven that by his record deficits. Wrong again ding-dong.
