Flat/Sale tax instead of Income tax Topic

"Fair share" is just a mantra to get the poor to vote Democrat.
I would adjust that to " 'Fair share' is just a mantra to get the uneducated and easily frightened to vote Democrat"

Repubs do it too but not as effectively.

Keep your guns.
No SSM.
Anti-abortion.
Porn is destroying our youth.
No legal pot.

There's a bunch of "no" in there and nothing to make the poor feel like your on their side. But generational poor keep hitting all "D" at the ballot box.

Fair is just a point of view. Someone will always object to whatever tax plan you come up with, therefore there will never be a universally accepted "fair" tax plan.

What about the people shouting for a flat tax on the basis that it's fair?

Every dollar made would be taxed equally. It's hard to say that's "unfair", no?

It's been pointed out several times that what is and isn't fair can't be measured objectively.

But, whether or not that is fair is beside the point. todd says that calling for fair share is just a way for democrats to get dumb people to vote democrat (paraphrasing). I'd argue the same can be said for republicans calling for a fair flat tax. Or a fair sales tax.

And I'd agree. Both sides are arguing to their bases.

EVERY tax system will benefit some, and not others, and virtually all are "fair" in some way. That's why I use it in my classes as an example of WHY YOU SHOULDN'T USE THE WORD "FAIR" in the workplace...

Devil's advocate here: "It's grossly unfair. The Clintons/Trumps are paying 25% on their $100 millionth dollar, and that means nothing to them. I'm paying 25% on my $30,000 annual salary, and I can't afford housing."

Reply to Devil's advocate: "It's grossly unfair. The Clintons/Trumps paid $25 million in taxes and hardly use any government services, while you only paid $7500, but tapped every freebie the government pays for you."

Completely agree with you. I'd argue pragmatics over fairness every time.

I didn't ask about "fair".

I asked if every dollar being taxed equally could be qualified as "unfair"?

Answer the ******* question. I don't give a **** what todd posted. Answer the question asked.

Wow, drunk already?

You could argue that it is unfair. But the point isn't that it is or isn't fair. The point is that politicians use "fairness" as a way to secure votes. Pretty sure you agree.

To put this in perspective for you, if I want a $1 Snickers bar, it's $1. If Trump or Hillary want a $1 Snickers bar, it's still $1. Is that unfair?

Then argue it. I'll wait here.

Goods cost the rich and the poor the same thing, right?

To make it easier for you.

Joe makes 10k a year.
Bob makes 500k a year.
Al makes 23m a year.

All want a candy bar. All pay the same price. Not unfair. All are taxed 22 cents on the dollar. Unfair?

I'm not arguing what is and isn't fair. There is no objective standard for fairness.

Im arguing that both parties use "fair" as a way to get votes.

A point that I'm like 99% certain you agree with, since you're the one who brought it up.
