Exactly!!! He stated he felt this was going to be one of those long drawn out extra inning affairs. That is why he didn't bring in Britton. Really???? If you thought it was going to be a long game, why burn a LH (Duensing) on just one batter??? Baltimore went to their pen early and by the end of the 10th had used 4 bullpen arms. Now I've got no problem with when he pulled Tillman. But you've used 4 guys from your pen and then use a guy to just get the lead off batter out in the 11th? Especially if you 'feel' it going to be a long game? Doesn't make sense to me.

Yep he was trying to defend a very bad decision. The reporters weren't buying it, nobody should. He screwed the pooch. This lose is on the Baltimore manager not the players.
I don't have any problem with the use of Duensing. The Jays weren't batting any lefties near each other in the lineup. Duensing was never going to be a good option for a full inning no matter how long the game went.

My biggest beefs were 1) the obvious decision not to use Britton once all of the quality bullpen arms had been burned and 2) the decision to go to Ubaldo before Bundy. Yes Ubaldo has been pitching better lately, but Bundy has much better stuff for relief duty, and Ubaldo has the first-inning problems I mentioned yesterday. As soon as I saw the video cut to Ubaldo in the bullpen I had a horrible sinking feeling. Even good Ubaldo sucks in the first inning. It just demonstrates a massive and startling lack of informed decision making from a manager who prides himself on having more information available than anybody else.

Hell, I would have brought in Hunter there before Ubaldo. Ubaldo's issues aside, it's always a risk bringing in a starter in relief, and it's never a good idea to bring a starter in in the middle of an inning - it's just not what they're used to. Some starters can handle coming in for relief duty, others can't because they don't get their regular routine. Not to mention Ubaldo had an 8.71 ERA in 10 relief appearances this season - and that was mopup duty.

If they'd lost this game with Ubaldo in the 15th, I can live with that. Then it's totally on the offense. But using Britton, Bundy and Hunter first couldve bought his team 2-3 more times at bat to potentially make something happen. Buck was talking like it's better to lose in the 11th, than burn Zach and have someone else come in to protect a lead if the O's get it. Which is colossally stupid.

His press conference was an absolute joke. If he believes the excuses he was giving, he's not fit to be an ML manager anymore.

My problem with the way they used Duensing, is you should save your LH specialist for a high leverage situation. The leadoff hitter in the bottom of the 11th, while important, definitely isn't what I'd consider a high leverage situation. I agree, Hunter would've been a better pick than Ubaldo. Still not to bring in Britton when the game was on the line...is just STUPID.

Also why not walk Edwin to load the bases? Doesn't matter who the batter is or who is on deck, defensively speaking you're in a better position with there being a force at all bases.

As far as walking Edwin goes, I'm sure he was worried about Ubaldo walking in the winning run. At that point, Buck only had two options: bring in Zach, or let Ubaldo pitch to Edwin and hope for the best.

That could be.... He does have a history of that...

Starter. Reliever. Whatever. When your entire season is on the line, you need to have your best available player out there. I know Jimmy F$cking Powell would have been there if he had been available!!!!

The Great Jimmy Powell would have bitchslapped Buck and told him "Stay in your lane, *****. I got this."

Well since the O's lost 11-2, and didn't stand a chance, does it really matter?

11 - 2?? what game were you watching?

sjpoker was ranting all week about how the Jays were gonna destroy O's pitching and win 11-2
10/5/2016 8:45 PM
Well the destruction I saw with Edwin cranking that fastball was enough. The Os are done. BUT for me that was a forgone conclusion.

Seeing how Miller and Chapman are being used this WS, and all the coverage it's getting - it's saddening, because you know Buck is watching how Francona and Maddon are using their bullpens, and not even having it register with him that he screwed up
