OFFICIAL® BUCKS THREAD 2017!!!! GM search bungled Topic

Kidd makes some strange lineup decisions, but he is buddies with the owners. Not anticipating a change any time soon. There was even some talk that they were trying to avoid the playoffs before Jabari's injury.

Game 53: The Bucks bounce back to beat the Pacers in Indianapolis, 116-100. Giannis is two boards shy of a triple double.

Game 54: Bucks take down the Pistons at home, 102-89, behind a 25/13 game from Greg Monroe (playing his former team). Beasely adds another 23 from the starting lineup and the Bucks survive a dismal 8-point outing by Giannis.

Game 55: The Bucks ride a three-game winning streak into the Break, beating the Nets 129-125.

Bucks had a relatively quiet trade deadline day, sending recently acquired Roy Hibbert to Denver for a protected future 2nd round pick. Yay, I guess.
2/24/2017 12:20 PM
Game 56: Bucks come out of the break still half asleep, pummeled at home by Utah, 109-95.

Game 57: Giannis and Beasley combine to hit 19 of 23 shots and the Bucks complete a season sweep of the Suns, winning 100-96 in Milwaukee.

Game 58: LeBron returns from strep throat to help Cleveland beat the Bucks 102-95 in Cleveland. Michael Beasley suffers a gruesome-looking knee injury for the Bucks, which could be a big blow to the team's playoff hopes. With Parker out, Beasley had emerged as a reliable scoring option.

Game 59: For some reason (probably because we're tanking), Jason Kidd thought moving second-year alleged "shooting" guard Rashad Vaughn into the starting lineup was a good idea. It was not. Denver rushes out to a big lead early and is never threatened as they top the Bucks 110-98.

Game 60: Giannis and Monroe combine to hit 21 of 28 as the Bucks beat the Clippers 112-101 at the Bradley Center.

Game 61: Spencer Hawes helps keep the good times rolling as the Bucks beat Toronto 101-94. Bucks remain tied for 9th in the conference with Miami, 1.5 games out of the final playoff spot.

Game 62: A season high 21 points from Tony Snell helps the Bucks win their third straight, 112-98 at Philly.
3/7/2017 8:18 PM (edited)
Game 63: The last time the Bucks played the Knicks, they suffered an embarrassing 4th quarter meltdown and gave the game away. No such problem in this meeting, as the Bucks top the Knicks 104-93 for their fourth win in a row. Giannis scores 32 and Milwaukee overcomes 43% shooting by holding a 28-12 advantage in FTA. Bucks are now a half game behind Detroit and Chicago, who are currently in the 7-8 seed positions.

Game 64: The Bucks spot Indianapolis 10 points before recovering to top the Pacers 99-85, moving into the eighth spot in the East.

Game 65: Milwaukee wins its sixth straight, beating the T-Wolves 102-95 despite surrendering 35 points to Mr. Towns. The Bucks put seven players in double digits, led by Tony Snell with 19.

Game 66: The Bucks start a six-game road trip with a 20-point loss in Memphis (113-93). While the Bucks recently moved into the eighth position in the East, 12 of their last 17 games (starting with this one) are on the road. A 1-5 trip here would not be good.

Game 67: The Bucks nip the Clippers in LA, 97-96, to stay in playoff position.

Game 68: The Bucks top the Lakers 107-103 behind Khris Middleton's 30 points, reaching .500!!!

Game 69: Bucks are predictably stomped by Golden State, 117-92. 2-2 with two games left on the road trip.

Game 70: Bucks ensure a .500 Western Conference road trip with a 93-90 victory in Portland.

Game 71: Bucks blow out the Kings 116-98, moving above .500 and into a tie for the sixth seed in the East.

Game 72: Bucks return home and top the Hawks, 100-97, behind another double double from Giannis

Game 73: The Bucks forget they are playing a matinee and suffer an embarrassing 109-94 loss to a Bulls team missing D Wade, missing a chance to sweep their rivals.

Game 74: Tony Snell scores a career-high 26, helping the Bucks to a road win in Charlotte, 118-106. Five Bucks hit double digits.

Game 75: Malcolm Brogdon leads a late-game surge and the Bucks top the Celtics in Boston, 103-100.

Game 76: With Brogdon out due to back stiffness, Thon Maker scores 23 and the Bucks beat Detroit 108-105.

Game 77: Giannis finishes one assist shy of a triple double, but the Bucks drop a 109-105 decision to the Mavericks.

Game 78: Russell Westbrook ties the Big O's record with his 41st triple double of the season (despite playing only 27 minutes) and the Thunder destroy the Bucks in a nationally televised game. Bucks can still clinch a playoff spot with a win over the Pacers on Thursday.

Game 79: Bucks fail to clinch a playoff spot, falling to Indiana 104-89. Three straight losses, three games left.

Game 80: The Bucks rally to beat the Sixers, 90-82, clinching a playoff spot. The Bucks haven't won a playoff series since the nearly magical 2000-01 season, the longest current drought in the league. Yay Bucks!

Game 81: Bucks clinch a winning record and no worse than the #6 seed with an 89-79 win over Charlotte. Giannis has his third triple double of the season (11-10-10).

Game 82: With Atlanta clinching the #5 seed the night before, and Boston able to earn the #1 seed with a win, the Bucks have little chance in the season finale, resting a number of players and losing to the Celtics. They finish the year 42-40. Better than I expected, to be sure.

PLAYOFFS!!!!

Game 1: The Bucks stifle the Raptors in the second half, holding them to 32 points, and steal Game 1 in Toronto, 97-83 behind 28 from Giannis. Brogdon adds 16, Monroe grabs 15 boards off the bench, and Middleton has nine assists to go with his 10 points.

Game 2: Buck rally from 13 down in the second half, but miss several shots while down two in the final minutes; Kyle Lowry finally hits one for Toronto and the Raptors survive 106-100, sending the series to Milwaukee even at one game apiece.

Game 3: FEAR THE DEER!!!! Bucks jump out to big lead early and coast to a 104-77 win at the Bradley Center. de Rozan held to eight points on 0-8 shooting from the floor. Impressive performance by the home team; hopefully they can keep the momentum Saturday afternoon.

Game 4: Bucks choke up the home court advantage they stole in Game 1, losing 87-76 in a low-energy performance at home. Freak shoots 6-19 and has seven turnovers. de Rozan bounces back to score 33 for Toronto.

Game 5: Bucks stop playing defense, and Norman Powell, drafted by Toronto with a second round pick acquired from the Bucks in the Greivis Vasquez trade, goes off for 25 points as the Raptors roll the Bucks to go up 3-2 in the series.

Game 6: Bucks stage a late rally after trailing by 25 in the third, and take a brief two-point lead, but miss a bunch of free throws in the fourth and fall short, losing 92-89, their second loss in three home playoff games.

Time to prepare for the draft.

GM John Hammond leaves the Bucks for Orlando (had one year left on his deal and had previously been informed that his contract would not be renewed).

Justin Zanik had been hired from Utah last year with the expectation that he was the GM-in-waiting, was originally one of the named finalists for the job, but ultimately did not get the job even thought the Bucks stayed within the organization. After one finalist, Denver assistant GM Arturas Karnisovas, was promoted to be the Nuggets' GM, the Bucks moved Jon Horst (director of basketball ops) up. Horst is apparently a compromise candidate as the three owners could not agree on who should be GM (and the ownership structure calls for such decisions to be made unanimously).

Really projects the organization as a smooth-running one for any prospective free agents the team might pursue. YAY BUCKS!!

Bucks draft Michigan forward DJ Wilson in the first round, give up their original 2nd rounder but pick up SMU senior Sterling Brown as a second rounder from the Sixers. Brown was a good 3-point shooter in college, which is a Bucks need. Wilson is a "positionless" lengthy player, which would not seem to be a Bucks need, and he has a reputation of being soft in the paint (also not presumably a Bucks need).

ESPN didn't like the Wilson pick, the Ringer liked it quite a bit.

With Greg Monroe and Spencer Hawes both exercising player options to return to the Bucks, the frontcourt seems a bit crowded. Probably someone will get injured before that matters.

OJ Mayo tells SI he cheated the Bucks, wants another chance to make things right.

Good luck, pothead. Maybe you, Larry Sanders and Michael Beasley can form your own Big Three in China or somewhere.
