seble stated that he envisioned a "winning" strategy under 3.0 entailing coaches persuing backup options; not going "all-in" on just 1 or 2 guys. But the system is really not built to allow spreading around effort too much, at least for high D1. The unlock threshold works directly against this strategy, and it is too easy for low-tier programs to compete for top talent.

The whole 6>3 argument discussed above is interesting. I personally thing changing budgets based on openings is wildly unrealistic.
Exactly correct. New HD is all about trying to stay caught up since Att Pts is the major factor in recruiting, yes prestige helps and preferences have their role but it seems att pts is by far and way the "IT" factor

Pkoopman actually plays high DI so he knows how this works, I understand his points but don't agree. as for spud until he proves he's coached an upper level team then he is a troll to me w/o valid opinion

for note my other ID is waykbordr, since we are all declaring our other IDs

If # of AP per cycle is restricted, it only exacerbates the problem that it takes too much effort to unlock schollys/other actions. This will hurt teams playing catch up. The threshold to unlock schollys is way too high and is one of the biggest sources of un-realism in the recruiting process.
Start unlocking sooner. Tons of D1 players unlock scholarships in the 50-60 AP range. Even if you don't have any scholarships to start with, you can generally unlock scholarships for 4-5 guys in the first session, with no problem.
Smith - 2 EEs . Went after a late recruit who was only considering a SIM. He signed with SIM 1st cycle 2nd session. How am I supposed to compete with that?
Smith World, I had two D! projected, late preference guys sign 11am cycle with D2 Schools....I agree how do you compete with that!

Well, yeah, take aside the AP issue, it continues to be ridiculous that players sign on the very first cycle of the second recruiting period. It's the equivalent of a guy signing with D2 and then getting a bunch of letters/contact from D1 schools the next day. "Oops, I could have gone to Duke!"

ok, so i've been away a few days and breezed through this topic...apologies if i miss and/or repeat anything here.

first, i find it just wonderful that a couple of the HD3 naysayers decry the limit on AP as limiting their strategy are the same folks who told me 'enjoy the trophy, you are a chump coach who needs socialist help to win' when i used the strategy of maxing AP with a lot of scholarships to land a top recruit at cornell in knight last season. seriously, nothing can be done to satisfy some folks. why are they still here?

that said...

i'm also in smith, dealing with EEs in HD3 for the first time in reality and not just abstract. it is really rough. i had 3 EEs. i planned multiple backups who were "late" or "whenever" preferences, stretching the APs i had to my 3 open scholarships in the first session (imagine trying to do this if you had 1 open, and then 3 EEs! impossible!). but none of them worked out--they all signed right away or really early in the 2nd session. as has been said, when recruits sign in the first cycle in session 2, you are just hosed and wasted your APs entirely. and then you have to find new backups, and it's a sad cycle of wasted APs on guys who sign before you can even spend your money. to me, a signing-free cycle or two is a MUST.

No, Attention Points are adjusted by both preferences and by prestige, but HVs and CVs are still worth more than attention points.

In a battle, where all other things are equal, attention points can be the deciding factor, but they are not the most important or the highest value recruiting effort.

The point is that AP might be overvalued given the small recruiting budgets

It might be, and it's something the admins are going to have to look at. But for the purposes of this discussion, capping them at 80 per player per cycle helps, not hurts teams with EEs. I think these other tangents we've gone down are obscuring this fact.

" But it is absolutely true that you're not playing the best game you could play if you don't start prioritizing and planning to replace potential EEs before you've actually lost them "

Pin that for the truth there.

" You have 1 player drafted ever in your HD career? Am I missing something here...you can't be commenting on this type of topic with no experience. "

Pin that for the humor at a guy who doesn't understand multiple screen names.
Lol, I could care less if the guy has multiple screen names...I doubt he has many more guys drafted on his other names if he only has 1 guy drafted in this many seasons as pkoopman.

But then again, I think you are pkoopman...
I don't agree with Koop on much of 3.0 but I understand why he thinks the way he does.

Calling him Spud is just plain mean!!
