Eventually.

Packers release RB James Starks and CB Sam Shields. Shields suffered a concussion in Game 1 and missed the remainder of the season (was still reportedly feeling the effects during the playoffs). Seemingly bitter about being released, he claims he has no plans to retire.

Starks also suffered a concussion during the season, when he was involved in an automobile accident.

RB and CB were clearly two of the biggest holes on the roster as the season ended. Teddy better get scouting.

Ted Thompson loses his mind, signs Martellus Bennett out of unrestricted free agency, meaning that the signing will be netted against the Packer free agent losses when determining compensatory picks in next year's draft. CRAZY.

They then added Milwaukee native Lance Kendricks, another TE, recently released by St. Louis (and therefore in the "street free agent" category that Ted likes to sign).

Bennett released and designated with "failure to disclose medical condition" which seems ridiculous, since the team presumably subjected him to a physical exam before handing over the signing bonus.

Bennett had recently announced that he was likely to retire after the season (despite signing a three-year deal over the summer) and appears to have lost interest in playing after Rodger's collarbone was splintered into hundreds of tiny pieces. I suppose that's some justification for going after a portion of the signing bonus, but it seems like the team might be better off just cutting him loose and moving on.

The Wilpons own the Packers, now?

Recent results are similar...

Packers part ways with DC Dom Capers and begin to move away from GM Ted Thompson (though Thompson will reportedly "transition" to some other responsibilities within the organization). Packers will likely hire the new GM from within, with several candidates available (including Ron Wolf's son Eliot).

Do Packers play Saturday or Sunday?

I believe they play the same day as the Raiders.

Packers trade CB Damarious Randall to Cleveland for QB DeShone Kizer, also switching places with the Browns in the 4th and 5th rounds (GB moving to the top of each round).

Supposedly the Packers considered taking Kizer at the top of their draft last year before selecting CB Kevin King, so they apparently see something in him. Randall has been up-and-down as a player, getting sent to the locker room during a game against the Bears last season, but playing very well in the games that followed (but then missed the final two games with an injury that some thought he could have played through). He was also very critical of the coaching staff after the season ended. Packers probably decided they didn't want him in the locker room any more, but this move puts them even deeper in the hole where the defensive backfield is concerned, and they don't look to have significantly improved their backup QB situation.

As a Notre Dame fan I'm obviously biased, but for a young guy with very limited experience, even in College, I thought Kizer did OK. He certainly has the physical tools, so given time, he might become a decent starter. Well worth an unproven CB with a questionable head and heart for football.
