2017 draft pick Josh Jones (S) requested a trade earlier this year, and did not report to voluntary activities this offseason.

This weekend, the packers waived him (with some non-football injury designation). He went unclaimed on waivers. I guess that proves there was not much of a trade market for him.

New coach, offensive wunderkid Matt LaFleur, masterminds the Packer offense to 10 points in the season opener as the NFL's 100th season starts with the Packers beating down the Bears at Soldier Field, 10-3, outscoring the hapless Mitch Trubisky by a 3.33 to 1 margin. The Ringer's headline this morning is perhaps the most appropriate one I've seen: "The NFL is back, and we're already sick of watching Mitchell Trubisky".

Offensive mastermind Matt LaFleur works out an opening script that produces touchdowns on the Packers' first three drives, then apparently decides to take a nap as the team fails to score a single point thereafter. The defense, with some help from numerous offensive pass interference calls against the Vikings (one on a replay of a scoring play at the end of the first half), makes it hold up for a 21-16 victory.

26. Packers, QB Jordan Love, Utah State

Grade: D. Terrible move by the Green Bay Packers. Aaron Rodgers told me last summer he wants to play until he's 40. They needed a receiver. They needed defensive help. Sitting behind Rodgers will do Love well, but not going to do the Packers well. You're on the cusp of getting to a Super Bowl, get Rodgers some help.

The Packers know there won't be a 2020 season, so no need to get immediate help. Have fun trying to draft a QB in 2021 after no college season.
