MLB 117457.: FREQUENT FLYERS LEAGUE

In 1998, pinch hitter extraordinaire John VanderWal began a stretch where he played for seven teams in a seven season span. By spending 1998 in Colorado and San Diego, 1999 in San Diego, 2000 in Pittsburgh, 2001 in Pittsburgh and San Francisco, 2002 with the New York Yankees, 2003 in Milwaukee, and 2004 in Cincinnati, VanderWal certainly accumulated a lot of Frequent Flyer Miles. With his journey in mind, I thought it would be nice to create a Frequent Flyers League.

THE PREMISE:

Pick a player (your “Frequent Flyer”) who played for at least three different teams in three consecutive seasons. Select a roster full of players who played with your Frequent Flyer during those three seasons. You may then twist FOUR players, one teammate from each of your Frequent Flyer’s three selected seasons, plus your Frequent Flyer himself.

EXAMPLE:

If you were to select Jason Heyward 2014-2016 as your Frequent Flyer, you could twist Heyward by draftting his 2012 Jason Heyward. You could add 2008 Dan Uggla (a teammate of Heyward on the 2014 Braves), 2010 Adam Wainwright (a teammate of Heyward on the 2015 Cardinals), and 2012 Aroldis Chapman (a teammate of Heyward on the 2016 Cubs). The remaining 21 players on this roster could not be twisted, and must come from the 2014 Braves, 2015 Cardinals and 2016 Cubs.

Please note: For those seasons in which your Frequent Flyer played for two or more teams in one season, you may only use teammates from one of those franchises. If Ben Zobrist 2014-2016 is your Frequent Flyer, his 2014 teammates would come from the Tampa Bay Rays and his 2016 teammates would come from the Chicago Cubs. You may choose either the 2015 Oakland A’s or 2015 Kansas City Royals, but cannot select teammates from both of the clubs he played for in 2015.

THE RULES:

1. Basic rules--
  • $100 MM cap
  • Clones – No
  • DH – AL only
  • WW- No
  • Trades - No
  • AAA – No.
  • Injuries – On
2. Your team. Select your Frequent Flyer (a player who has played for three different franchises in three consecutive seasons.) You may twist your Frequent Flyer and one teammate from each of the three selected franchises/seasons. The remaining 21 players on your roster cannot be twisted, and must come from the three selected franchises/season of your Frequent Flyer. No under 300K exceptions.

3. Rosters. Official MLB rosters are determined by baseball-reference.com.

4. Frequent Flyers Blacklist. In the event that we play additional seasons, Frequent Flyers used in one season will be blacklisted for use as Frequent Flyers for all following seasons.

5. Stadium. Use a stadium your Frequent Flyer actually played in as his home stadium during one of your selected seasons. If no such stadium is available in WIS, then use WIS Park.

6. Division alignment. Divisions will be realigned and teams will be placed in chronological order of the selected seasons of the Frequent Flyers.

7. Claiming your team. Please claim your Frequent Flyer/selected seasons in this thread. Please specify if you want to be in the NL (no DH) or AL (DH).

8. Team Names. Please incorporate your Frequent Flyer’s name in your team name.

I will choose my franchises/selected seasons no earlier than 12th & 24th.

All good choices so far. I'm hoping others are doing some research and plan to sign up soon. There are several hundred possibilities out there. I wonder how many folks will go back into the 1920s (Rogers Hornsby?) or even back into the deadball era (Chief Bender?).
11/20/2016 6:31 PM
I'll tale Gregg Olson (93 BAL, 94 ATL, 95 CLE), National League please
