For fun, let's accept your premise, that Lebron was the best player in the league every year of his prime.

Why do you think he didn't win the MVP every year?

Are you going to tell us how you know what the originators of the award used to define "value"?
Hello?
Because I know what the word is supposed to mean and I know that 100 years ago educated people tended to be substantially more pedantic about precise usage of language.

Well, as he mumbled after Curry won his first one "I guess some people have a different meaning for valuable." Surely you know he said something very similar to that, right?

No, and I don't think everyone always agrees on whether the best player is the most valuable.
Again, only the people who actually know what the word "valuable" means.

Plus the character considerations I guess. Certainly that impacted guys like Ted Williams in the past.
what you really mean is only the people who define value the same way you do. I know you find this hard to grasp, but not everyone defines value the same way you do.

Didn't we just agree that LeBron/Jordan were universally considered the best players in the NBA in their prime? And that the NBA is the best sport for an individual to display the skill that makes him the best?
Yes, but the fact that they were the best over a long period doesn't mean they were always the absolute best in every increment within that period.

You get this, right? You're just arguing for the sake of arguing now?
so you're saying its not the best player, but the player who had the best year? So the best player is not always the most valuable.

So you're the sole judge of what the word actually means? Words aren't "supposed" to mean ****. They actually are defined.

And, if you would, post the link of the names of the originators of the award and their education.

Thanks in advance.

Do you think Lebron was better when Curry won?
If I watched 5 minutes of the NBA over the last 5 years, it's because I fell asleep watching something else and it came on afterward. And I couldn't find the remote quickly enough.

I'm not going to look up who all the owners were in 1922 and 1924 when the leagues established MVPs. I think it's fair to assume that the majority were at least college graduates.o

Value is defined as the intrinsic worth of something. To wit:

1.

relative worth, merit, or importance:

the value of a college education; the value of a queen in chess.

2.

monetary or material worth, as in commerce or trade:

This piece of land has greatly increased in value.

3.

the worth of something in terms of the amount of other things for which it can be exchanged or in terms of some medium of exchange.

4.

equivalent worth or return in money, material, services, etc.:

to give value for value received.

5.

estimated or assigned worth; valuation:

a painting with a current value of $500,000.

On the other hand, this, which many people incorrectly use as a definition of value, is actually from the definition of worth. As I said:

usefulness or importance, as to the world, to a person, or for a purpose:

Was I unclear? I don't watch the NBA. I'm guessing, however, for a 10 year period, every team would have taken LeBron first in a re-draft each year. Therefore, I'm guessing he was the "best" player. Yet he never won more than 2 MVP in a row.

Well, he won 4 in a 5 year stretch. But, beside that, what's your point?
11/22/2016 9:07 PM
He was universally regarded as the best player in the NBA for at least 10 years yet didn't win the MVP every year. Maybe "best" doesn't equal "Most valuable". I don't know. Has anyone claimed that?
