We have one opening in the eighth season (1982/83 and 1983/84) of a double season progressive which started with the 1968/69 & 1969/70 seasons. We progress 2 seasons at a time. Each season owners are able to select which of the 2 seasons they will use for each of their players, if the player was WIS eligible in both seasons. There will be adequate players available.
The team available is the Miami Heat (name can be changed and city moves can be made to an unoccupied city which fits geographically in the Atlantic Division). We will be ready to begin the draft in about 2 weeks.
The Heat are 32-41 with 9 games left in season 7 (1980/81 and 1981/82) and will be drafting about 9th to 13th .
Since we progress 2 seasons at a time, player turnover in the league is rapid. Rookies for the 1982/83 and 1983/84 season include Thurl Bailey, Terry Cummings, Clyde Drexler, Sleepy Floyd, Derek Harper, Fat Lever, Jeff Malone, Rodney McCray, Ricky Pierce, Byron Scott, Dominique Wilkins and James Worthy. The Heat should be able to get one of these players.
The team had 4 players retire after the 1980/81 and 1981/82 season and at least 2 others probably should be cut. The roster of the 8 returning players is listed below. There have been no trades involving future draft picks by the Heat.
A new owner will have a rebuilding task that may take 2 or 3 seasons to build a contender.
This is a stable league with relatively low turnover.
