he walked too much
Please tell me this is sarcasm?!?
It's mocking bad_luck who said Edgar walked too much for a middle of the order bat.
Ha, it was mike that said that.

My bad. Not the least bit shocked that something that stupid would come from him though.

I think what Mike actually said was he'd like it if some of those walks Edgar took could have been hits instead. (Maybe not in those words, but I'm pretty sure that's what he meant, although with Mike you never know.

I'm sure everyone would love to just hit home runs all the time. But that's not reality.

There's no reason to think Martinez didn't hit the ball enough (avg 177 H per 162 games) and almost all great hitters have a relatively high walk rate. His walk rate is a feature, not a bug.

Just think if Teddy Ballgame had actually been a man and swung the bat....GOAT!

I didn't say homeruns. I said hits. Plus I also didn't say Mike is right. (Something I very rarely say)

I said something to the effect of "I like my best hitters to swing the bat." Basically, I don't like my best hitter passing the baton to Jay Buhner. I won't bother looking it up but a lot of EM's outs were whiffs. I imagine more than a few were looking.

Your exact words:

3. He was a 3-4-5 hitter but, IMO, he walked a great deal. Was he pitched around? Unlikely with A-Rod and Griffey in the line-up. Bad, IMO.

I love that you're still trying to justify saying that walking a lot is a bad thing. Just admit that you were trying to pad your argument and said something stupid that you really didn't mean.

I bet MikeT sure loves Vladdy, he ain't takin no pitches!

Without looking it up, off the top of my head, I can't recall a season Edgar ever whiffed more than 100 times!

It only happened once...107 in his final season. But ya, "a lot of his outs were whiffs."

It's just such a dumb argument. If you want to make the case that Martinez doesn't belong, there are a couple easy options--he was a DH, he had a relatively short career (in terms of PA), he didn't have a ton of HR power, etc.

But walked too much? That's ******* retarded. Even for Mike.

Edgar struck out over 100 times only once in his career in 2004, his final season
