126 Pac12 Season in Review

Conference Full Roster GUESS Ranking: 4th – 73.07 Conference GUESS Recruit Class Ranking: 5th – 68.72
North
BYU
Record 2-11 (0-8) – WIS Ranking: 80 – Bowl: None – GUESS Full Roster: 11th, 69th, 54.14 – GUESS Recruiting: 8th, 56th, 54.71 – Schedule: Don’t Know for 126
In season 125 BYU made and won the Motor City bowl with a sim coach. Now four seasons removed from their last human coach, BYU started season 126 with an okay 2-3 record but then lost all eight Pac 12 games to finish 2-11.

California
Record 11-4 (7-2) – WIS Ranking: 17 – Bowl: Lost Cotton Bowl – Guess Full Roster: 4th, 19th, 70.47 - - GUESS Recruiting: 4th, 23rd, 73.38 - Schedule: Don’t Know for 126
Mrfortune3 finished his run at California going 4-1 out of conference and 7-2 in the Pac 12. Lost the CC game to eventual National Champion USC. Mrfortune3 lost the Cotton Bowl and abruptly took the job at non-elite powerhouse South Carolina of the SEC. Mrfortune3 won two Pac 12 Championships in six seasons, going 58-31 at Cal. The Pac12 wishes him luck in the future!

Oregon
Record 9-5 (9-5) – WIS Ranking: 33 – Bowl: Lost the Independence Bowl – GUESS Full Roster: 8th, 54th, 58.01 – GUESS Recruiting: 12th, 112th, 31.33 – Schedule: Don’t Know for 126
Huskerfan26 was slowly improving the roster to his liking and seeing results on the field with an improvement in wins in each of his three seasons in Eugene. Lost in the Independence Bowl to finish his run as head coach of the Ducks. Huskerfan26 has left for more fertile recruiting grounds at Temple. Before huskerfan26 the Ducks had six seasons of sim coach. The Pac12 would like to wish huskerfan26 great success in the future.

Oregon St
Record 9-5 (4-4) – WIS Ranking: 39 – Bowl: Won the Continental Tire Bowl – GUESS Full Roster: 5th, 43th, 60.65 – GUESS Recruiting: 5th, 32th, 64.95 – Schedule: Don’t Know for 126
A very uneven season for the Beavers. The team wanted to make a jump but failed to make much of an impact in chrondon84’s third season. Started 4-1 but had trouble in Pac12 play going 4-4. Tried to develop some new game plans and took a beating because of it. Winning the Continental Tire Bowl was important to get some momentum heading into season 127.

Washington
Record 67 (3-5) – WIS Ranking: 69 – Bowl: None – GUESS Full Roster: 7th, 52th, 58.17 – GUESS Recruiting: 9th, 57th, 54.36 – Schedule: Don’t Know for 126
Started a respectable 3-2 and finished 6-7. Not bad for a sim team. Without a human coach since season 124. Still has some human recruited players on the roster.

Washington St
Record 5-8 (1-7) – WIS Ranking: 71 – Bowl: None – GUESS Full Roster: 12th, 71th, 53.77 – GUESS Recruiting: 11th, 78th, 48.63 – Schedule: Don’t Know for 126
Great season for the Cougars. Without a human coach since season 93.
South
Air Force
Record 6-7 (6-7) – WIS Ranking: 58 – Bowl: None – GUESS Full Roster: 9th, 57th, 56.57 – GUESS Recruiting: 10th, 76th, 49.30 – Schedule: Don’t Know for 126
Great season for Air Force. Standards are low. Without a human coach since season 122.

Arizona
Record 3-10 (2-6) – WIS Ranking: 50 – Bowl: None – GUESS Full Roster: 6th, 51th, 58.19 – GUESS Recruiting: 7th, 54th, 55.12 – Schedule: Don’t Know for 126
Not a good season at 3-10. Without a human coach since season 124. Still has some human recruited players.

Arizona St
Record 12-2 (7-1) – WIS Ranking: 5 – Bowl: Won the Rose Bowl – GUESS Full Roster: 3th, 12th, 73.06 – GUESS Recruiting: 3th, 19h, 74.77 – Schedule: Don’t Know for 126
Lyonzfan37 ended a great 5 year run at ASU, building them into a non-elite powerhouse in the process. Finished the season bringing home the Rose Bowl Championship back to the Pac12. At 12-2 and ending the season #5 in the country, season 126 was arguably the greatest in ASU history. It will be hard to replace lyonzfan37, who accepted the job at Tennessee to replace new USC coach tampafla.

Stanford
Record 6-7 (3-5) – WIS Ranking: 51 – Bowl: None – GUESS Full Roster: 10th, 58th, 55.94 – GUESS Recruiting: 6h, 41th, 60.70 – Schedule: Don’t Know for 126
Good season for Stanford at 6-7. Without a human coach since season 113.

UCLA
Record 11-3 (6-2) – WIS Ranking: 10 – Bowl: Won the Capital One Bowl – GUESS Full Roster: 2nd, 9th, 74.40 – GUESS Recruiting: 2nd, 10th 78.87 – Schedule: Don’t Know for 126
UCLA started off the season with what was maybe the hardest out of conference schedule in the country. Things looked bleak in the preseason as jwzewilliams tried to whip his team in shape after a single season under a sim coach. Shocking the college football world, jwzewilliams got UCLA through the gauntlet at a crisp 4-1. UCLA then finished Pac12 play at 6-2 to earn a trip to the Capital One Bowl, which they won to end in the top 10 for the first time since season 101. Great first season in LA for jwzewilliams.

USC
Record 15-0 (9-0) – WIS Ranking: 1* – Bowl: Won the WIS National Championship Game – GUESS Full Roster: 1st, 2nd, 77.94 – GUESS Recruiting: 1st, 1st, 87.11 – Schedule: Don’t Know for 126
Z32fanatic retired as National Champion going 15-0 in his final season. To cap off a career that spanned 53 seasons and included 7 National Championships and 30 Conference Championships. The Pac12 is sad to see him go but know that USC will be fine. USC is one of the premiere jobs in the country and the only elite in the Pac12.

Coach Security

ASU - Tinytide – Very Secure
ASU’s Tinytide is in his first season at ASU, and 21st overall. His 5th school in as many years, ASU is full of hope that Tinytide will stick around to see a recruiting class graduate. Tinytide has made three straight postseasons at Humboldt State (15-2 lost in quarterfinals), FIU (14-2 lost in 2nd round), and New Mexico (9-6 lost the Peach Bowl). Fans and alumni are expecting at least 10 wins and a bowl invitation in his first season.

UCLA – jwzewilliams – Very Secure
Jwzewilliams is entering his second season at the D-IA level with UCLA. Came to UCLA after a successful run at Arkansas Tech, and a single season at The Citadel (15-1 lost in the 2nd round). Has fans and alumni excited with an 11-3 first season, and a Capital One Bowl win. While another 11-3 season would be fine, those involved with the program really would like to see an improvement to 12-2.

USC – tampafla – Very Secure
Tampafla was building a Hall of Fame resume at Tennessee, winning National Championships in season 121 and 122. After a mediocre 11-3 season, tampafla then shocked the college football world by moving to USC weeks after telling players and media “there is no way I am leaving Tennessee. This is my dream job…” Expectations are sky high at USC after winning the National Championship in season 126; The last time USC lost three games was more than 15 seasons ago. USC is not used to new coaches so things could get hot if wins don’t come in bunches, but my money is on tampafla to continue heading toward the HOF.

California – roundtop13 - Very Secure
Roundtop13 returns to the Pac-12 after a ten-year hiatus; Was at UCLA in season 116 (9-5 lost the Sun Bowl). Has started strong only to lose some mojo in later years at both Auburn and Virginia. Comes to California after a 7-7 season at Virginia that ended with a Las Vegas Bowl victory. That win propelled him to the top of California’s job search. The program has seen two 11-4 seasons in a row and fans would like to see a step forward. The talent is there, can roundtop13 coach these young men up to their potential? That’s the question around Berkeley as Cal enters season 127.

Oregon State – Chrondon84 – Little to No Jeopardy
Chrondon84 needs to win at OSU or move on. A horrendous first recruiting class set the program back a few seasons. 28 wins in three seasons is one less than the record at OSU. Same with the three straight bowl games, one off the school record. But unless some improvement is made in recruiting and on the field, Chrondon84 may be looking for a new job. A National Championship at non-elite Texas A&M had fans at OSU dreaming big, but patience is starting to run out on Chrondon84.

Best open jobs in the Pac12

#1 - Stanford
Lots of recruits in northern California.

#2 - Arizona
Close to southern California and west Texas.

#3 - BYU
Not a lot of competition in the region.

#4 - Air Force
Same as BYU. Not a lot of competition in the region.

#5 - Washington St.
Not a good recruiting region but St. is farther east of Washington’s Seattle campus, making it closer to most all recruits.

#6 - Washington
One of the worst locations in the game.

#7 - Oregon
Could move all the way to #3 if Oregon St fires chrondon84. Location is a problem but not if there is no competition. Better location than Oregon St because it is closer to California.

Top 5 coaches (non BCS) the Pac12 would love to have.

1) Sjurat – Akron
Look, no one thinks that after 100 seasons (no joke) sjurat would leave his dream job of Akron. We’re talking about the all-time winningest coach in Leahy world history at 1070 wins. This guy is a freaking Hall of Fame coach if there ever was one. Will he ever leave? Probably not. But the Pac12 would love to have him roaming our sidelines.

Potential Landing Spot: None. This guys is going to be at Akron forever. But any job would be happy to have him. The one school that needs him the most would be Washington State. They have had one decent coach in their history and he was only there for 9 seasons. That was like a hundred seasons ago. It would be the hardest job in the Pac. If anyone could pull it off it would be a legend like sjurat.

2) Robert porta – Navy
After 1000 seasons with San Jose, and building them into a mid-major power, the world waited in anticipation as word spread that Robert might be looking to move on. But what elite would snag him? Where would he land? Turns out that he was just looking for a change of scenery and he signed on with the US Naval Academy. How did that turn out? Amazing. 91 wins in eight seasons. Coming off a 14-1 season in which Navy ended as the #16 team in the nation, Robert porta is in heavy demand.

Potential Landing Spot: Stanford. Stanford has been looking for a coach for a long time. They have decent recruiting in Northern California. Robert seems like the kind of coach that could win anywhere, but in a place like Stanford could win a National Championship.

3) Dawgnuts – San Jose State
Dawgnuts is an all timer, fringe HOF coach. Winning National Championships at Ohio State a lifetime ago, dawgnuts is always going to be at the top of these lists until he moves up. San Jose state has been good to dawgnuts, he has won three CC in eight seasons. Being able to consistently win recruiting battles against the Pac 12 is not easy to do at a WAC school.

Potential Landing Spot: Washington. Washington has not had a human coach for a few seasons. Washington has only won 4 CC in their history. They need an all timer to fix things and prove that winning is possible in Seattle. Not the best recruiting grounds, but also there is not a lot of competition for those recruits. If anyone could handle a job like Washington it would be a great coach like dawgnuts.

4)Brianlee – Eastern Michigan
The third all-time winningest coach in Leahy. Just like sjurat, brianlee will be at Eastern Michigan forever. But just like sjurat, brianlee is much sought after. Winning 881 games is not an easy task, yet that is exactly what brianlee has done at Eastern Michigan.

Potential Landing Spot: None. He will always be at Eastern. Forever. BUT… The Pac would love to have him take over one of the tough jobs in the Pacific North West. Washington St., Washington, and Oregon are all in very bad need of a great coach. We can dream can’t we?

5) Duckpluck – North Texas
Duckpluck has done an amazing job at North Texas turning them into a conference contender in just four short seasons, winning the thing in 125. Being to compete with Robert porta lead Navy teams is a huge accomplishment. Winning 53 games in five seasons, and the one CC. Will duckpluck strike while the iron is hot?

Potential Landing Spot: Arizona. Duckpluck has been coaching in the Texas area for a long, long time. 14 seasons at Houston, followed by a lengthy break, 4 seasons at Texas State, and now the 5 at North Texas. Those recruiting ties could lead to big things at a mid-west school like Arizona.

Others just outside the top 5:

Jdtilt: #2 on the all-time DIAA win list. Had an amazing career at Florida A&M and Valdosta State before. Maybe the winningest coach to never win a National Championship. Had a 9-5 first season at Houston. Whatever conference gets this stud will be better off for it.

Alfalfa: At Kent State for 20 seasons. Won tons of games in that time against all time coaches like brianlee and sjurat. As deserving as any to be in the top 5 of this list, did not make it because I already have two coaches that do not seem likely to move. Previously coached at Oregon St, so Alfalfa is familiar with the conference.

Rsskfs23: Great coach that was at Western Michigan for a long, long time, before moving on to Bowling Green. Won the CC in his first season but fell to 4-9 last season, which has lost some momentum for this coach moving forward.

Ddirkl: Came back to Leahy after missing 50+ seasons. At TCU now and starting to roll. Won 9,11,10 games in first three seasons back. Gonna keep an eye on ddirkl because he could be moving up this list fast.

AlekTx2015: Young up and comer has history in the west so may be a good fit in the future to join the Pac 12. At UNLV has won 8, 10 games and is looking to compete for the CC in 127.

Rockydawg07: Another up and comer. Not a lot of experience but has done a good job at Western Michigan in two seasons. One to keep an eye on for next seasons list.

Mesplayjj: My brother. Kinda sucks at this game. But I figured I would throw his ***** *** a bone here and put him on my list. Lol.

Top 5 Best Pac12 QB Battles
  1. UCLA - Jr Alexander Cole comes in as the incumbent but Sr Roger Wright is right behind him and even started two games last season. If the right leader emerges to lead the Bruins, this could be a big season in LA.
  2. Arizona St. – Sr Joe Nichols and Jr. Ronald Case both return after leading the ASU Sun Devils to a Rose Bowl victory in season 126. Ronald Case is leading the race coming out of the spring game. But either of these two are capable of leading new coach tinytide’s offense.
  3. Oregon State -Returns the starter from 126, Sr Steven Wooten, but incoming freshmen Anthony Greer is the #1 incoming QB in the conference and the first human recruited QB coach chrondon84 has had since arriving in Corvallis.
  4. Oregon – The Ducks have two returning seniors in Tony Willard and Richard Marks. These two have both started in the past and are equal in talent. This may be the most even QB battle coming out of the spring.
  5. California - Not returning a lot of experience in season 127. Sr Alexander Short is coming back after playing in 14 games but only throwing 63 passes. Jr. Rick Robinson has been waiting for his turn and may be counted on to come in to rest Short. Not really a battle here as Short is the better of the two QB’s.

Rivalries and Scores, streaks!
  1. USC Trojans vs UCLA Bruins – USC leads the series 81-15 and have won a lot in a row. At least 3 since I have been here to keep track. Because USC is the only elite, and UCLA is their most consistent competition, this ranks as the top rivalry in the Pac12.
  2. Oregon State Beavers vs Oregon Ducks – Oregon Ducks lead the series 70-26 and have won two in a row. The most competitive of all Pac12 rivalries.
  3. Arizona Wildcats vs Arizona State Sun Devils – the Sun Devils lead the series 79-17 and have won at least the last three since I have been here to keep track.
  4. Washington Huskies vs Washington State Cougars – The Huskies lead the series 86-10. WSU has won the last game in the series.
  5. Stanford Cardinal vs California Golden Bears – These two teams are not in the same conference so this rivalry takes a break every so often.
  6. Air Force Falcons vs BYU Cougars. Just like Stanford and California, these two do not play in the same conference.

Capital One Bowl: UCLA

Humanitarian Bowl: ASU

Music City Bowl: California

Pac12 Heisman Watch
  1. Steven Beck – RB – Oregon St. – The #1 RB recruit in the nation in season 126, ran for an amazing 2760 yards and 14 TD. If he can stay healthy Beck may be running into Leahy record books.
  2. Thomas Warren – QB – USC – Tons of hype surround Warren as he enters his senior season after leading the Trojans to a National Championship in season 126. Has over 13,000 yards, 120 TD’s and is completing almost 62% of his passes.
  3. Alexander Cole – QB – UCLA – This spot could have gone to ASU’s Ronald Case but he is expected to share more reps than Cole. Could have a huge season if he gets enough time under center.

Games of interest

12/7/16 Week One

Oregon St. vs Clemson – Both schools are needing big seasons to calm the fan bases. Clemson is coming off a 6-7 season, which is coach mholland’s first at the ACC school. OSU should have the advantage because coach Chrondon84 has two more recruiting classes on the roster.– PICK – Oregon St. 38- Clemson 17

Michigan vs California – This is the first big game for roundtop13 as the head coach of Cal and the first big game of the season for the Pac 12 as a conference. Michigan is coming off a 14-1 record and #3 ranking. Tigerpark135 has a great program going at Michigan and they might be too talented for California to handle. PICK – Michigan 48 – California 23

12/8/16 Week Two

Oregon St. vs Maryland – Diamondjim69 is heading into his seventh season at Maryland and it is an important one. So far it has been an up and down stay at College Park for Diamondjim69, going 7-7 last season. This is a very even matchup. Both teams have major weak spots that need to be cleaned up with recruiting. Maryland has better depth on defense. PICK – Maryland 35 – Oregon St 31

Arizona St. vs Penn St – Tinytides first real test in Tempe sees a stacked Penn St team visiting. ASU has been built into a top 5 non-elite school. Very impressive what has happened there. But Penn St is a top 3 elite. Maybe the #1 team of the past four seasons. This might get ugly early. PICK – Penn St 55 – ASU 35

12/9/16 Week Three

Maryland vs California – Maryland might have too much depth for Oregon St to handle but that will not be the case when they play California. Cal should be able to get up and keep a lead throughout this game. It would be a huge win for Maryland if they could pull off the upset. PICK – California 39 – Maryland 14

Arizona St. vs Texas – Arizona will play another elite in week three. This time playing a great Texas team that was been in the top 3 for 9 seasons in a row. Texas has National Championship aspirations this season. Just like in week two, Texas will have too much for ASU to keep up with.PICK – Texas 52 – ASU 31

UCLA vs Syracuse – Syracuse is head by coach megalladon. Entering his second season at Syracuse, megalladon has a huge task ahead of him if he wants to compete. No human coach at Syracuse since season 109 means that there is no talent at Syracuse yet. This should be a blowout for UCLA. PICK – UCLA 62 – Syracuse 10

Oregon St. vs Oklahoma St – Oregon St is trying to get revenge after losing in Stillwater in season 126. Oregon St is better equipped on defense to handle Ok St this time around. Will it be enough? Coach braddee18 is doing some good things at OK St. winning 10,10,9,10 games respectably. Oklahoma St fans are expecting a jump in wins and it starts with handling games like this. PICK – Oklahoma St 38 – Oregon St 31

USC vs Louisville – Deconjain is doing great at Louisville. At least 10 wins every season since 119. Louisville has won two Big East championships in a row and are looking to threepeat in 127. This could be a huge upset. No one really knows how well tampafla will do in Southern Cal. If he can keep the ship right, USC wins going away. But if things start slow in USC, this could get interesting… PICK – USC 28 – Louisville 21

12/10/16 Week Four

Florida St. vs California – Florida St is a mess. Why? No one really knows what is going on over there. What we do know is that coach muchraker is heading into his fourth season. The last three have been very underwhelming, especially for an elite school. Going 7-7, 8-6, and 5-8 there are calls for a new coach and they are getting louder every week. With all of that, this looks like a prime chance for California to get a win over an elite. PICK – California 41 – FSU 31

Oregon St. vs Minnesota – Coach zach1442 is starting to build up the program at Minnesota. Two 9-5 campaigns have brought some joy and excitement to the program after three under a sim coach. Chrondon84 has had one extra season to recruit and that will be the difference here. PICK – Oregon St 42 – Minnesota 38

UCLA vs Maryland – Maryland loves playing the Pac 12. After games with Oregon St. and California, Maryland will take on the UCLA Bruins. This will be the same as with Maryland vs California; Too much talent for UCLA. Maryland will not be able to keep up. I do not see an upset happening here. PICK – UCLA 45 – Maryland 21

USC vs Florida – The biggest game of the weekend will see two elites square off. Not all elites are created equal, USC is a far better program. Coach badaxe has done a decent job at Florida, though never winning more than 11 games, and still never winning a conference championship. USC is just too good. Florida should keep it close for a half and then USC runs away with it. PICK – USC 35 – Florida 17

Arizona St. vs North Carolina – Tarheel1991 may be one of the most underrated coaches in the league. He has turned North Carolina into one of the top 5 non-elites in the game. One year removed from an ACC championship, the Tar Heels are looking to take that next step and win a National Championship. It all starts with winning non-con games like this. ASU is also a top non-elite. This might be the game of the week. PICK – N. Carolina 28- ASU 24

12/11/16 Week Five

USC vs Illinois – Another vastly underrated coach, coachkb has done an amazing job at Illinois. His teams have won at least 10 games a season for six seasons. This one should be no different. No moral victories but if Illinois can hang with USC, they should feel good about themselves. PICK – USC 42 – Illinois 31

Oregon St. vs Western Michigan – Last season the Oregon St Beavers traveled to Western Michigan and picked up the W. This season Western is trying to repay the favor. Coach rockydawg07 is trying to build a program at W. Michigan and is on the right path. But that path runs will hit a snag as the Beaver run game is too strong for the Mustangs defense. PICK – Oregon St. 45 – Western Michigan 20

12/12/16 Week Six

USC vs Oregon St. – The first human vs human game of the Pac 12 season features the USC Trojans taking on the Oregon St Beavers. This is the first time these schools have met in a few years because of Pac 12 scheduling. USC should handle things here. PICK – USC 51 – Oregon St. 17

12/13/16

California vs Arizona St. -California has a tough schedule and it does not get any easier as the Pac 12 schedule starts to heat up. These two schools are close in talent. Both are seeing new coaches. Should be a great game. PICK – Arizona St. 34 – California 28

12/14/16

California vs UCLA – Another game that has two teams that are near each other in talent. UCLA has an extra season under their current coach and that might be the difference here. PICK – UCLA 34 – California 21

12/15/16

California vs Oregon St. – Cals last tough game of the season will come against an improved Oregon St team. Oregon St has yet to beat California since coach Chrondon84 has taken the reigns. Will this be the year? PICK – California 38 – Oregon St. 35

12/17/16

USC vs Arizona St. – Game one of the “South Division Round Robin Tournament”. This has been a winner takes the division game for most of the last half decade. USC won all those games. But ASU has been right there knocking on the door. Is this the year? Will ASU finally win the South? This game may be the deciding contest. PICK – USC 45 – ASU 38

12/18/16

UCLA vs USC – The second game of the “South Division Round Robin Tournament”. Last season saw USC win a game that had huge implications on the conference and the country. The loss ended the magical run of UCLA in jwzewilliams first season, and propelled USC into the National Championship. PICK – USC 45 – UCLA 38

12/19/16

Arizona St vs UCLA – The third and final game of the “South Division Round Robin Tournament”. This one may be like the ASU vs Cal game. Having a season under the current coach may be the difference. Should be a great game. PICK – ASU 31 – UCLA 28
