Here's a quick review of the available teams:

AL North

Former Montreal Franchise (95-57, 2nd)

This team had a long term owner but the last 2 seasons have seen a different owner each year. A playoff run last season couldn't keep management in place so this once proud franchise is looking for a steady hand to take over. Orlando Lopez swings the big bat with a 44 HRs & 109 RBIs, Buddy Turner chipped in with 33 HRs, 83 RBIs but the rest of the team was anything but spectacular. On the bump starters Victor Seguignol (20-7, 2.29) & Phil Burke (18-7, 3.47) formed a dynamic one-two punch as did relievers Wascar Silva (20 svs, 3.39) & Hipolito Ferrer (14 svs, 2.51). With a team ERA of 3.53 the pitching staff provided ample opportunity for wins.

The new owner should have to only do some minor tweaking to strengthen this group for a deep run in the playoffs. A vet should be able to make the necessary changes easily.

AL South
Former Iowa City Franchise (78-84, 3rd)

Three consecutive 3rd place finishes has this team looking for new ownership. 180 dingers showed this team has power & 163 SBs shows it has speed but a .244 team batting average doomed this team to a sub .500 finish and a seat watching the playoffs. Closer Nate Taylor (22 svs, 2.36) is rock solid.
Maikel Shoop (13 wins) & Matt Wise (11 wins) hit the double-digit victories yet their +4.00 ERAs show that they were lucky to hit those numbers. The balance of the staff was ok but just ok.

This team will make a nice project for someone with a vision and a plan. Other than Taylor everyone should be readily available and wholesale changes are the best course of action.

AL West
Former Scottsdale Franchise (88-74, 2nd)
This once proud franchise won seven straight division titles but while the regular season was rewarding this success only yielded one trip to the WS and one title. The last two seasons have produced over .500 finishes but again no trips to the series so that will be the challenge for new ownership. Pascual Perez (30, 86, .317), Sammy Arenciba (30, 98, .299) & Bruce Powell (42, 95, .295) are as dynamic a trio of batsmen as any team can throw at you. Power isn’t the problem, speed however is now existent so this one-dimensional team lives and dies by the long ball. The pitching staff came in with a 3.74 ERA and no one had an ERA over 4.59 so while an upgrade to the starters would help, there are no glaring holes that need to be filled.

This team could use a few minor tweaks to elevate it into a serious Trophy Contender which should make it an easy fix for a veteran hand.

Former San Jose Franchise (84-78, 3rd)
After 21 seasons this team will have only it’s 2nd owner. While this has been a solid franchise, there have only been 3 playoff experiences and none of those have been long runs. Zeus Foster (25, 90, .291) provides some pop and Dennis Knepper (18, 101, .285) provides timely hitting. This team does a little bit of everything on offense but it could use more of everything. On the bump the bullpen leads the way as closer extraordinaire Alex Bastardo (40 sv, 2.95) and iron man Kareem Haynes (80 app, 192 IP, 3.18) set the tone for a stalwart group. Upgrades to the starters would turn this from a solid staff into a league leader.

This is one of those near .500 teams that with a couple of key additions could turn into a juggernaut or just linger close to the playoffs but always on the outside looking in. It may take some bold leadership to turn this ship into something more than a decent team.

NL North
Former Hartford Franchise (83-79, 2nd)
Finishing above .500 all but one of the last six years would be fine for some however the fans are desperate for a title. Speed is the name of the game for this team and with three players scoring 100 runs and another with 97 they get the most they can from their little ball approach. Zach Rivers is the big thumper in the lineup with 36 dingers but his .203 batting average exposes his all or nothing approach at the plate. Adding some power that still can produce a respectable batting average should be the focus of new ownership. The pitchers were solid with a 3.94 ERA, all five starters hitting double digits in wins and four of them throwing more than 200 innings. Alex Bonilla converted 32 of 34 opportunities and put together a 2.18 ERA. Finding better bridges between the starters and Bonilla will be important if this team wants more success.

This will be an intriguing team as it has many fine pieces that just need a few more to connect all the dots and help raise this team to a new level.

Former New York Franchise (50-112, 4th)
At one point this team saw the playoffs in 11 of 12 years so the 100 lose seasons the past two years are a horrible reflection of this once successful franchise. When you only win 50 games there is little to praise, at the plate J.P. Chavez (34, 80, .267) & Sam Gibson (29, 86, .264) were the lone bright spots. However, they are nothing more than complementary pieces that would be fine support of some true stars. As it is with the offense, the pitching offers little to crow about. In a world with many stud closers this team is lacking. The starters and bullpen need upgrading throughout so the offense won’t need to overcome the holes the pitchers put them in.

This is a total rebuild for those with the patience, plan and fortitude to stay the long haul as this team again regains its lost glory.

NL East
Former Boston Franchise (35-127, 4th)
That 35-win total isn’t a misprint, the last five seasons have been like the first five seasons of this franchises existence. Unlike those early years there was a plan in place. Armando Saenez (91 R, 23 HR, 63 RBI, .291 Avg) is a solid performer. Surprisingly Dennis Martin won 11 games, he also lost 11. The rest of the staff needs to find new professions as an 8.10 ERA and the fact that two hurlers lost 21 games while another lost 19.

This isn’t a total rebuild, that would imply there is something to work with. This team needs someone that likes to start from scratch so the team can be molded to fit their style. No one should be untouchable and many of these players may never see another big-league roster.

NL South
Former San Antonio Franchise (87-75, 3rd)
It’s unfortunate that previous ownership didn’t stick around. After many years of mediocrity, the last two seasons have been a couple of the best years this team has had. While this team has decent power, a .258 avg and more than 900 strikeouts indicate that they need more guys that can put the bat on the ball more regularly. A 4.24 ERA isn’t horrible but it isn’t what you will normally see of a playoff team either. To turn this staff around at least 2 starters should be added that can eat some innings and keep this team in the game until the bombers unload on the other team.

This would be an interesting team, in a highly competitive division the new owner will need to up his game and be ready to shoot for 95 wins if he hopes to get into the playoff mix.
