Changing positions success Topic

Has anyone had success recruiting a player to put him in a different position than his primary and having success with it? For example you need a LB but you recruit a TE to form him into a fast LB, redshirt him and he grew into an elite LB.

RB or WR to pretty good receiving TE. Usually makes him a poor blocking TE though.

Switching a player from offense to defense doesn't work very well. His formation IQ will drop to zero, and his tackling skills will usually be very low. But as mojo said, RB or WR to TE works well in some instances. I've also done LB to DL a couple of times. From what I've seen, though. You should only switch freshmen. The older they get, the more their skill ratings would drop with a switch, and they would not have as much time to regain their skills.

I changed a WR to a DB as I needed depth and he actually had defensive IQ they were not at 0.

Good info, bama. I was always under the impression that the IQ would need to start over from zero.

I actually did that same change (for the same reason) with my WR being a SO. His formation IQ is not bad considering.

In general I think it pays not to change positions. But, using discretion, on rare occasion it may work to your advantage.
